The federal government is awarding contracts to companies that fail to pay nearly 560,000 people enough to meet basic news, according to a new report from Demos. At the same time, the report found that taxpayers are spending an estimated $20.9 to $23.9 billion dollars annually to pay top executives at the same companies. This figure includes an estimated $6.97 to $7.65 billion annually to pay top executives at a rate higher than the Vice President of the United States's salary.
