Time Travel Is Possible: How to Send a Message to the Past  ~  would u go into the past or into the future ???  ...fucking neat!

A scientist's journey through grief, aspiration, affirmation, and a loop in time

The universe is full of mysteries that challenge our current knowledge. In "Beyond Science" Epoch Times collects stories about these strange phenomena to stimulate the imagination and open up previously undreamed of possibilities. Are they true? You decide.
At the Follow the Truth: The Conspiracy Show Summit in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, on Nov. 16, Dr. Ron Mallett will talk about his work on sending information into the past. The summit will bring together researchers exploring the power of the mind, past lives, time travel, and more.
Dr. Ron Mallett is a celebrated theoretical physicist at the University of Connecticut, but he was once a little boy with a copy of “The Time Machine” by H.G. Wells. Mallett’s father died when Mallett was 10 years old, and when he read this book a year later the idea of traveling back in time to prevent his father’s death gripped his imagination.
It wasn’t a passing fancy. He studied physics in college, with a special interest in black holes. He figured that understanding black holes could help him understand time travel. At the time, black holes were considered “crazy, but at least it was a legitimate crazy,” Mallett said; time travel, on the other hand, was considered “crazy crazy.”
“I used black holes as a cover story,” he said with a laugh.
Albert Einstein described time as a 4th dimension and he said that time and space are connected, thus physicists talk of space-time. It is said that space-time bends and twists around rotating black holes. Mallett wondered if he could replicate these conditions here on Earth.
A couple of coincidences helped him figure out how.
When he graduated college, he wanted to start his research right away, but it was a time of recession and colleges weren’t readily hiring. He ended up working with lasers, learning about their cutting capabilities for industrial use. After two years of this work, he got the job he originally wanted at the University of Connecticut.
To understand the progress of his research, one must understand two of Einstein’s theories:
1. According to Einstein’s Special Relativity Theory, time is affected by speed. It’s already been proven in the lab that subatomic particles can be hurled into the future at high speeds. An accelerator has been used on particles known to disintegrate after a certain amount of time. The particles appear in the future, in a young state, without having disintegrated over the usual time period. The particles’ aging slows down as they speed up.
2. According to Einstein’s General Relativity Theory, time is also affected by gravity. It’s already been proven that clocks on satellites in orbit show a slight difference in time than clocks on Earth if they aren’t adjusted to compensate.
Dr. Mallett knew that gravity could affect time, and that light could create gravity. He pondered and pondered, and then his “Eureka” moment hit. Lasers!
He remembered from his earlier work with lasers that a ring laser creates circulating light. “Maybe circulating light will do the same thing to gravity that a rotating black hole would do,” he thought. He wondered if a ring laser could be used to twist space-time into a loop—present, future, and back to the past.
A concept illustration of how a time machine could look. The lasers would create a circular movement of light, bending the time-space within the machine. (Screenshot of footage in Professor Chandra Roychoudhuri's laboratory, courtesy of Dr. Ron Mallett)

If the laser could create such a loop, information could be sent to the past in binary form. Neutrons spin, Mallet explained. A string of neutrons could be arranged so that some are up and some are down, representing 1s and 0s respectively, thus creating a binary message.
If Dr. Mallett had found the research job he wanted right out of college, he wouldn’t have worked with lasers and gained this knowledge that helped him so many years later. “I had something in my background that my colleagues who work in this area didn’t, so it was having that in my background that led me to that breakthrough, which I may not otherwise have had,” Dr. Mallett said.
Now for the hard parttesting this theory in mathematical equations. That’s where the second coincidence came in. Dr. Mallett was diagnosed with a heart condition shortly before he was struck with his inspiration to use ring lasers for time travel. He was on medical leave from many of his duties at work.
Without having to teach classes or perform committee duties, he was free to concentrate wholeheartedly on his research.
“If I hadn’t had that time, I don’t know if I would have been able to not only have the breakthrough, but also the time to work it out,” he said.
It took him six months to prove that circulating light could twist space. It took another couple of years to prove that the twisting of space could also twist time. Though it was a long, laborious effort, Dr. Mallett noted that it took Einstein 10 years to show that gravity affects time.
“It was worth it … to actually see the equations and to see that they predict that [time travel is possible] is a thrilling thing,” Dr. Mallett said. The next thrill came when a refereed journal published his first article on time travel.
With trepidation, he presented his findings to relativity experts at a conference held by The International Society on General Relativity and Gravitation. He was particularly nervous to talk about time travel in front of Dr. Bryce DeWitt, a prominent no-nonsense physicist who worked with Einstein. Dr. DeWitt spoke right before Dr. Mallett, a tough act to follow.
At the end of Dr. Mallett’s presentation, however, Dr. DeWitt got up in front of the whole audience and said, “I don’t know if you’ll get a chance to see your father again, but he’d be proud of you.”
In one short sentence, years of labor were validated, his aspirations realized, and his initial purpose fulfilled. Though he’d dreamt as a child of preventing his father’s death, he feels the discoveries he’s made, motivated by his father’s memory, are more than sufficient.
His father was the object of great love and admiration in the young Dr. Mallett’s life. His mother worked hard to support Mallett and his three siblings in the Bronx borough of New York City. It wasn’t easy especially in the 1950s as an African American woman to earn a living and the family fell into poverty. He realizes how hard it must have been for her, only 30 years old at the time, to lose her husband to a heart attack so young and to work to raise her children.
Dr. Mallett wrote about his personal journey as well as his discovery in his book, “Time Traveler: A Scientist’s Personal Mission to Make Time Travel a Reality.”

How Long Will It Take to Make a Time Machine?

We must make it clear that Dr. Ron Mallett is not tinkering in his garage with a Delorean and a flux capacitor like Doc Brown in “Back to the Future.” He’s a theoretical physicist, not an experimental physicist. That means he’s developed the mathematical evidence that time travel to the future should work, but it remains to experimental physicists to get the hardware and build the time machine.
That could cost some $250,000 just to get started, he said. The $250,000 would cover the feasibility study, and the feasibility study would determine how much the experimental phase would cost.
Donations are being made to the University of Connecticut Foundation. “Over time nearly $11,000 in funding has been received from a great many generous contributors ranging from $15 to $25 from enthusiastic middle school and high school students to $500 from a concerned young couple to $1,000 from a grieving parent,” Dr. Mallett said.
He expects that once the feasibility study starts, the whole process would take about five years.

Philosophical Questions

If one day a time machine is built based on Dr. Mallett’s design, what may happen when the switch is flipped? A message from the future could instantly appear.
The time machine would only be able to send information along the timeline from when the machine is first turned on until when it is turned off. So, if it stays on for 100 years, binary messages could be sent to any time within those 100 years. Someone from the future may know that the machine will be activated on a given date and send a message through to that time.
In a BBC-Discovery Channel documentary featuring Dr. Mallett’s work, the narrator said that with time travel, “At stake is nothing less than what it means to be a human being.”
If we could go back in time and fix all the suffering of the world, if we could go back and prevent the bad things that happen in our lives, what would that do for personal growth and wisdom? How would our society change?
Dr. Mallett said the movie “Time Cop,” starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, explored this idea well. Van Damme’s character was tasked with regulating time travel so that people couldn’t use it for their own purposes. His wife had died and he had to restrain himself from going back to save her.
“It’s up to society to decide how time travel is used, it’s not up to an individual,” Dr. Mallett said. The Large Hadron Collider, the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator, is run by a consortium of nations. He imagines a time machine would be controlled in a similar manner. He doesn’t imagine time machines will become any more common than nuclear reactors. People won’t have time machines in their backyards for casual use.
For Dr. Mallett, the best use of time travel would be to warn people of natural disasters—to prevent, for example, the thousands of deaths caused by tsunamis and hurricanes.

New Smartphone App Creates Community Response Service

Activist Post

The state of police work in the U.S. continues to be called into question. Due to major budget cutbacks amid a worsening economy, many areas have been left with part-time police and 911 response. And even if available, the wait times can be life threatening.

Moreover, the police who do show up are often of a completely different mindset than the police of yesteryear. An increasingly militarized police force can show up to an emergency response call as though it is territory to be invaded and occupied. The stories are legion of police killing the owner who called, shooting their pets, or basically laying waste to their home. In fact, the growth of the police state is one of the greatest threats that each of us might encounter as we go about our day-to-day lives.

People are beginning to look to technology as a possible solution. We previously reported on an app called Sidekik, which was designed to make it as easy as possible to record the police and upload that recording offsite, also putting you in immediate contact with legal representation to help you navigate the encounter ... in real-time.

Now a new app called Peacekeeper goes even a step further, encouraging connectivity with your neighbors, family and friends in order to establish a response network filled with people who already have earned your trust. Please read their press release and see their video below. Tell us what you think - is this a viable decentralized solution that can restore self-reliance and community strength? Please leave your comments.

Press Release - Peacekeeper, a community-based emergency response Smartphone app, cuts emergency response times by relying on nearby neighbors. When a user is in an emergency, the app notifies neighbors, friends and family and gives them the chance to be first responders. The system enables individuals to easily send, receive, and respond to emergency alerts. The design of the app gives users the ability to get the help they need when seconds count the most.
In an emergency, response time is critical. By relying on neighbors across the street rather than police across town, Peacekeeper can dramatically reduce the wait time for help to arrive.

The four types of Peacekeeper alerts are Medical, Fire, Intruder and Abduction. Alerts contain detailed information about the emergency so that the recipients know where to find the person and what to expect when they arrive. Responders and victims can communicate in real-time via the built-in chat feature.

“The Peacekeeper app is designed to change how people think and feel about emergency response by building tools, relationships and training that empower individuals to take action within their own communities,” says Cody Drummond, the app’s founder. “This has the potential to dramatically reduce assault, improve security and improve safety in neighborhoods around the world.”

For medical emergencies, responders can provide users with the support they need during a crisis or serve as an intermediary until professional help arrives. For instance, if a child falls unconscious, a family member can quickly send a medical alert to the people in their private emergency response group. Neighbors who know CPR or have medical training arrive within seconds and save a life.

“We hope an emergency never happens, but if it does, Peacekeeper alerts the important people who are motivated and ready to respond with one touch of a button,” explains Drummond. Peacekeeper users have two layers of protection: their Emergency Response Group (ERG) and their Alliance.

ERG’s consist of the neighbors that you choose to be in your network. Alliances are designated family and friends who may be geographically further away, yet, are likely to act quickly in an emergency.

Thanks to a successful beta test period, the app now has users in all 50 United States and over 20 foreign countries.

The Peacekeeper app is built to call responders to your home. As the network grows and users begin to establish trusted reputations, Peacekeeper plans to implement features that allow users to send alerts from any location for emergency response wherever they go.

The app is available in Apple’s App Store and Android’s Google Play for $0.99.

Deception Down Under

Before Columbine, Virginia Tech, Aurora and Sandy Hook, there was Australia’s Port Arthur Massacre   //http://memoryholeblog.com/2014/11/02/deception-down-under/#more-15193

Andrew S. MacGregor, an experienced military and law enforcement officer, speaks with James Tracy on his research of the April 28, 1996 Port Arthur massacre. Born in 1947 in Yarraville, Melbourne, Australia, Mr. MacGregor served in the Citizens Military Forces of the Victoria Scottish Regiment and as Senior Constable with the Victoria Police.

Since 1998 MacGregor has conducted extensive research on the Port Arthur incident and other Australian ‘lone-nut’ shootings. MacGregor argues that such events are directly related to international UN-directed gun control measures.
MacGregor began delving into the Port Arthur massacre at the behest of Wendy Scurr, a nurse and eyewitness at the event who attended to the wounded. “Here I am, sitting at my desk at night, transcribing the whole of the police transcript. We had some witness statements.” Through Freedom of Information requests he and others revisiting the case obtained more. “We also were able to get some that had been hidden, like the witness statement of Sargent Michael Charles Dyson, and we could prove that that was written months after and it was completely bogus.”
As MacGregor and Tracy discuss, Australian political leaders were dismayed that Tazmania and South Australia were reluctant to throw their support behind proposed gun control laws. “There will never be uniform gun laws in Australia until we see a massacre in Tazmania,” New South Whales premier Barry Unsworth declared several years before the Port Arthur event.
There’d just been two massacres in Melbourne, Victoria … After those two incidents the Australian Prime Minister Bob Hawke  then called a special meeting of the police ministers. There was also another meeting presided over by] Hawke of state premiers. There were two states, South Australia and Tazmania, that were not prepared to concede their interest in firearms to the federal government. It was at that stage that Barry Unsworth made his quote. That occurred in December 1987. Barry Unsworth went to an election poll in March 1988 and suffered the biggest defeat that any political party suffered in New South Whales. He was absolutely routed.
Because of this the gun control agenda was then moved from a political issue to a health issue. And I think you’ll find in America they’ve learned from Australia, and they’ll list it as a health issue and not a political issue.
MacGregor sees several similarities in the prelude to the Port Arthur massacre and recent events in the US such as Sandy Hook, yet his analysis has led him to conclude that Sandy Hook was in fact a drill.
When I first started looking at the various reports coming out, there was an excellent from “Idaho Picker.”A couple of policemen were chasing somebody else up through the scrub. It was taken from a helicopter, and he was arrested and carted off and placed in the front seat of a police car. My knowledge of policing in America [suggests] the criminal never goes in the front. He’s always placed in the backseat of the vehicle … You never, never place a criminal in the front seat of a police vehicle … A local newspaper said a couple of days later that the person arrested was an off duty policeman. But he wasn’t off duty. He couldn’t have been off duty.
As MacGregor observes, “You read everything and what you realize is that it was an actual police exercise that took place at a vacant school, and definitely not the Sandy Hook Elementary School. Once you start having a look at everything proper [and] you assess everything that was going on, you realize that the whole Sandy Hook massacre was simply a police exercise.”
“The other really interesting thing  that was actually taken of the real Sandy Hook Elementary [School]. It had been [closed] due to asbestos. The school was dilapidated and it was nothing like the so-called Sandy Hook massacre.”

Another tip-off that Sandy Hook was a contrived event involved the poor on-camera performance of Connecticut Coroner H. Wayne Carver Jr. “He was being interviewed, with police in the background, being asked certain questions, and he hummed and he hawed and he deferred. In the background you’ve got all of the policemen, all in uniform, some of them looking very stern as they looked on.”
Then MacGregor recognized how “a couple of them are winking and smirking. I said, ‘What the hell’s going on?’ I had never, never known policemen to smirk when they’ve just had twenty kids killed. It’s horrific if it had been factual to have policemen smirking.
“The reason they’re smirking,” MacGregor continues, “is because Dr. Carver hasn’t learned how to lie. He can’t lie that well. So the questions he’s finds too difficult he passed on; the police can answer. He made certain comments, such as most of the kinds being shot three to eleven times … You don’t kill children or people by shooting them with a semi-automatic three-to-eleven times. [What he's describing] is a fully automatic.”
MacGregor’s research indicates that the Port Arthur massacre was largely a botched job in terms of coordinating the actual shooter. This is suggested by the numerous Western intelligence agents mistakenly killed during the event. “There was a major scuff up at the Port Arthur massacre. The gunman was supposed to get on a ferry there that took people out to the Isle of the Dead–this cemetery that’s stuck out in the middle of Long Bay. He was then to retreat by the ferry to Seascape cottage and set the ferry on fire to burn the evidence. The waters at Port Arthur are very cold and rather deep, and any survivors that jumped out and got into the water would have died of hypothermia.”
There was also a “trauma seminar” taking place at the Royal Hobart Hospital, attended by over two dozen trauma specialists from throughout Australia. “They were specifically waiting for all of the survivors to be brought in. There were one or two busloads of American tourists–about 70 odd American tourists, old age pensioners, people enjoying the latter part of [their lives]–they were set up to be the target of this massacre, and the massacre had to take place at 1:30[PM].” Yet a fortnight prior to the Port Arthur massacre the schedule for the ferry from Port Arthur to the Isle of the Dead shifted from summer to winter.
Marin Bryant, the alleged shooter in the event, was in fact lured to the scene after having been told that he would be playing a role in a terrorist drill, MacGregor points out. Indeed, rather than a fair adjudicated court proceeding Bryant was unfairly tried in the court of Australian and world public opinion by Rupert Murdoch-controlled news media. “He never had a trial. It was only a sentencing report. They never even gave him a trial. He’s still never be released from jail, except for in a wooden box.”

China’s Massive Holdings of Gold Bullion. Is the West Financially Bankrupt?

Region:

gold
Alisdair Macleod of Goldmoney.com in a recent article    suggests China may already have accumulated between 20,000 and 25,000 tons of gold prior to 2002.  Please read this very carefully as it makes very good sense and puts a piece into the puzzle which was missing for so long.  Let me also add, if this turns out to be true then it is THE biggest financial news since August 15, 1971 when the U.S. defaulted on the gold standard.
Macleod believes that China has been playing possum regarding their gold reserves.  If you recall, China announced in 2009 they had accumulated a whopping 1,054 tons of gold.  The news at the time was a huge surprise and led to bullishness in the gold market as China was then a confirmed buyer.  This total vaulted them into the major leagues of gold hoards.  If Macleod is correct about holdings of 20-25,000 tons AS OF 2003, why would China want to “lie” about how much gold they have accumulated?  It is important to understand the mindset of the Chinese and the deep rooted thought process instilled in them by General Sun Tzu.  “Deception” is a core strategy to war, under this category would come the thought “help your opponent in his underestimation of you”.  Why would the Chinese announce true or huge holdings if it was their intent to continue hoarding?  They wouldn’t.
I wrote several months back regarding China’s gold holdings and identified at least 8,000 tons, but my calculation was ONLY from 2009 forward and assumed the 1,054 tons to be accurate.  I hypothesized that if you added the 1,054 tons announced in 2009, plus 3,000 to 4,000 tons over the last 2-3 years and then add in another 2,000 tons of domestic production you could easily see 7,000 tons without anything from 2009-2011.  I postulated maybe another 1,000 tons over these three years and arrived at 8,000 tons.  Keep this number in mind for a calculation later.
So, is it even possible for China to have accumulated as much as 30,000 tons over the 20 years from 1983-2002?  I think it’s very possible and here’s why.  This would mean China needed to purchase 1,700-2,000 tons per year out of a market that was producing only slightly more than 2,000 tons per year.  From a monetary standpoint, this would only have been $20 billion-$25 billion per year as gold averaged around $350 pear year during this timeframe, a sizeable sum back then but remember, China was attracting foreign “hot” investment capital and they were running a trade surplus every year.  From the standpoint of whether or not China could have afforded this, I believe yes it was possible.
The other side of the coin is whether or not this “size” of gold could have been available?  Is it possible for China to have purchased 20,000 tons and at the same time have the price dropping in a 20 year bear market?  I think it is for several reasons.  First, we know for a fact that many Western central banks were net sellers (The Washington agreement for example).  We also know about mining companies and central banks leasing gold (which gets sold into the market) from Frank Veneroso.  He estimated a total of between 10,000 and 16,000 tons leased back in 2002.  Central banks for the most part were asleep to the fact that gold was money, even the Swiss sold a large portion of their gold.  A couple of other anecdotes are the Germans and the Italians.  It has been thought for years that LTCM’s was short 300 tons or more of Italian gold they had leased.  Also, why can’t Germany repatriate her gold from the N.Y. Fed?
Now for the big question, “how could the price have been dropping if China was such a big buyer?”.  First, could China have just stood “under the market” all along and absorbed the leasing and sales?  Is it possible that China (via proxies) NEVER ever “bid” up for gold?  Could they have just stepped aside while the market was being capped (some of you may remember the $6 rule, same as the 2% rule today) and waited for the daily raids to accumulate positions?  Could they have even been part of the paper shorts to depress the price?  Did they maybe lose money on the paper side in order to accumulate the physical product?  Some of you may even remember Jim Sinclair speaking of “Hung Phat and Dr. No” ten years ago or more, …maybe of Chinese origin?
There is one more source of either supply or demand for gold we haven’t talked about yet, the Arabs and in particular the Saudis.  Alisdair Macleod hypothesizes that the Arabs were big buyers of gold between 1983 and 2002, Early in the 1980′s they may well have been.  But what if they were actually net sellers over the entire time period?  What if the U.S. somehow convinced the House of Saud with a “deal they couldn’t refuse”?  We have been the protector of Saudi Arabia all these years, is it possible we told them that unless they released tonnage, our “protection” might disappear?  I’m just thinking out loud here because if China were to accumulate such large gold tonnage, it had to come from somewhere and that “somewhere” had to be a combination of mine supply, central bank sales and what ever other sellers that could be coaxed.  I also would like to mention that throughout the 80′s and 90′s many Arab children were educated in Western universities, were they taught of gold’s new “barbarous relic” status and helped pry some of it loose from the older generations?
Earlier I mentioned my figure of China accumulating 8,000 tons since 2009, if we assume Alisdair Macleod is on to something but cut his estimate in half to 10,000 tons …we have a number of almost 20,000 tons or well more than double what the U.S. “claims” to have!  Another little tidbit of information is that China has allowed their population to purchase gold since 2003, why would they do this?  Did they as Macleod asserts have their sovereign fill and then decide it was time for the population to save in gold?  Was China actually more capitalistic than we ever believed and played possum for years while accumulating gold?  I believe this is very possible.
I do want to mention that if this is true, then our theory that China via proxies is the stubborn long in the silver market who refuses to go away has much more credibility.  China is said to have leased 300 million ounces of silver (maybe even 600 million or more) to the U.S. back in 2003.  The U.S. ran out of silver back then and China had it to lease.  Did China lease this silver in order to continue their drain of Western gold?  Have they had their silver returned to them or are they now angry because they were stiffed?  Did they sacrifice silver for the real crown jewels, our gold?  China has all new infrastructure and even ghost cities already built.  Who was the fool when we were laughing at them for building these ghost cities?  Was the West just plain dumb and sold off all of their gold or was it treason?
To finish I want to point out the obvious.  If China has amassed 20,000, 25,000 tons of gold or even more, what does it mean?  It means the West is financially bankrupt as by process of elimination much of this gold has had to come from Western vaults!  It means that money and power has shifted East right before our very eyes and under our noses.  It means that China can price or value gold at any price they would like …and in any currency they’d like.  It means we will be living in a China centric world where the “rules are made by those who have the gold”.  It means the U.S. (and much of the West) will be relegated to nearly immediate 3rd world status.  The danger of course is in today’s world, if this really was a miscalculation by the West, a very nasty and game ending war could break out.  I don’t believe we will have to wait too long to find out if China did in fact play possum as Alisdair Macleod may have now let the cat out of the bag!  As I said at the beginning, this could be THE biggest financial revelation in over 40 years!

UPDATING KUBRIK’S DR STRANGELOVE: THAT WEIRD SUNSPOT VIDEO AND A CURIOUS DOD STATEMENT  ~ hehe "somebody"  is fly~in  around up ...there Lol

Ms. P.H., a regular reader here, sent me this video with the header, “This could very well blow your mind…”  Well, knowing that Ms. P.H. seldom resorts to such sweeping statements, I watched the video, and yes, it blew my mind. It starts out as one of those bland “sun spot” reports, with its charts and graphs and breathtaking motion picture of the Sun’s corona and the easily discernible “plasma cells” within it(Dr. Richter anyone?). And, oh yes, what are those funny UFO-things that appear to be buzzing a sunspot region and flying in formation? and more importantly, if they are some sort of UFO, then just how-the-heck-big are they, and whose are they?
Here’s that video(and by the way, note the “astrological” allusion at the beginning of this video, as Jupiter and Mercury conjunct over the flare):

X Flare, UFOs During Eclipse | S0 News October 25, 2014

Now, I can imagine that certain folks in the “scientific community” will resort to the standard physiblither and assure us that what we’re seeing is not what we think we’re seeing, and therefore, it’s all unusual but an entirely natural sort of sun spot fluke(Ed. note: “physiblither” is the physics equivalent of psychoblather and edubabble, and it’s when a credentialed “expert” assures us that, because we are incapable of understanding tensor calculus and gauge symmetries rotation groups and other inscrutable High Mysteries, we shouldn’t form any opinions of our own on what we might be seeing, as they’re bound to be incorrect).
Well, physiblither aside, and while I don’t know about you, I do know about me, and those “thingies” certainly look as if they’re being maneuvered, assuming for the sake of argument of course that we’re not looking at a clever sort of video editing.
As odds would have it, within a day or two of Ms. P.H. sharing this thought-provoking video, Mr. V.T. shared a story which, with a little tracking down, I was able to find portions of a transcript of an interview on National Public Radio:
DOD: Climate Change Is A Volatile Factor In International Security
Lew Rockwell is considerably less bland, and his take is worth mentioning:
Department of Defense Declares War on the Sun:
The Admiral suggests that the battle for climate change will be fought in the Arctic.  Don’t worry, the interviewer is equally confused:
RM: Can you make the connection? Can you make the connection for me? Why would the U.S. military have to open up that front? Why would they be working in the Arctic?
DT: Oil and gas, I think many people know that some of the last greatest reserves of oil and gas are up in the Arctic.
So, the navy must protect access to oil and gas – one of the primary contributors (per the bogus science) of man-made global warming climate change?
RM: But how would the military respond? …What do you propose that the U.S. military be doing to combat climate change? Is there anything from a tactical level that can be done?
DT: Sure. So from a tactical level….
Tactical nukes – enough to lower the temperature a few degrees:
Nuclear winter (also known as atomic winter) is a hypothetical climatic effect of countervalue nuclear war. Models suggest that detonating dozens or more nuclear weapons on cities prone to firestorm, comparable to the Hiroshima city of 1945, could have a profound and severe effect on the climate causing cold weather and reduced sunlight for a period of months or even years by the emission of large amounts of the firestorms’ smoke and soot into the Earth’s stratosphere.
How about just lobbing twenty or thirty thousand warheads in the direction of the sun? Knock a few hundred thousand square kilometers of the Sun’s photosphere out of commission, diminishing the area from which energy is released?  Call it “Operation Enduring Winter.”
Just kidding, he didn’t say this.
Maybe they can attach a thermostat to the Sun.  Yeah, that’s it.
Or maybe they have other means of manipulating it, far more sophisticated than lobbing thermonuclear popguns at it.
The problem here is, as I outlined in my second talk at the recent Secret Space Program conference in San Mateo, CA in June, it is just remotely feasible that mankind does possibly posses technologies capable of producing effects in the Sun via resonance. And given the “full spectrum dominance” mentality of the Pentagram and its “military-industrial-intelligence” complex, and the recent appearance of “weather derivatives” in the financial sector, it is not entirely inconceivable that in their pathological insanity, these people would seek to understand the Sun in order to manipulate it even to the point, God help us, of weaponizing it. And if one had, pace Gary McKinnon, a secret space personnel lift capability, and pace Ronald Reagan’s memoirs, of 300 people, then perhaps those mysterious fast moving “sunspots” might just be signals that someone is doing just that: manipulating the Sun.
If this sounds like wild and wackadoodle high octane speculation, that’s because it is. But in a world of “Full spectrum Dominance,” where the Pentagram has stated its intentions to “own the weather,” any such statement implies the implicit assumption that all terrestrial weather systems are ultimately coupled to the Sun in a complex ecosystem. And that means ultimately that if one wants to “own the weather,” one will have to own the Sun and its processes, and be able to manipulate them. (There is, of course, that even whackier Egyptian idea that stars are living things, and that even whackier quantum and plasma physicist David Bohm problem…. you’ll recall he quit working in plasmas because he thought he found too many parallels between the self-organizing behavior of plasmas and life itself… but we’re not going there for right now. But assume, just for the fun of it, that the Egyptians and Bohm were right, and ask the question, “What if the Sun doesn’t like being manipulated?” One can even imagine a 21st century update to Kubrik’s Dr Strangelove, and General Buck Turgidson stating to President Murky Muffley,”Mr. President, we must not allow a stellar manipulation gap!” and Dr. Strangelove chiming in with a heavy German accent, “…of course, it vould be a relatiffely simple matter, ja, to achief some schpecial schtellar effekten mit ze proper resonance und frequenzy, ja? if such a small country had de Vill to do so, vith ze proper training in tradition und proper Leadership skills”… usw. usw.)
That’s all folks. Have a nice Apocalypse, and,

Why is Prism So Bad, Really?

Why is Prism So Bad, Really?  ~ can anyone say "controller files" can anyone say ...that EVERY poll in this Country (or any other) doesn't have 1 & isn;t "controlled" by ???

prism-slide-5Over the last week or so there has been a lot of discussion about the recent leak by an NSA contract of the PRISM program.  A debate has raged in not only the mainstream media but also the alternative media as to why the PRISM program is a violation of our rights, why FISA courts are illegitimate and more importantly where do we go from here.
My intent here is not to discuss those topics, at this point many a talking head has isolated and over analysed the PRISM leak.  We know what it is, the snooping of META DATA about your phone calls. Of course this is only done when its dooly authorized by FISA, and of course you need to be doing something wrong right?  In reality the PRISM system is just datamining  all the meta data from your phone calls.  It is trapping the time, duration, source and target as well as location each time you pick up the phone to reach out and touch someone.
So we got that out of the way, but why is it dangerous?  That answer is actually quite simple.
For many years now the NSA has been datamining you, yes you.  They have been intercepting emails and web traffic via the Carnivore system, phone calls via Echelon (Haven’t heard that name in awhile) and now phone details from PRISM.  We also know that they have been actively datamining Google (They have a webpage you can check out! Of course they do..), Facebook and just about every other place you can go to do anything on the web.
But what is it used for?
All this data, meta data, builds up a cohesive profile of you the person.  Who you call, about what for how long, where you surf, from where and why and of course what you buy and from whom.  All these things make up a composite of you as an individual. That composite can be feed into a VERY powerful computer to make a virtual you which can be analyzed for trending and risk analysis.
The more important thing about PRISM specifically is that when coupled with Echelon you now have a complete context of a phone call.
For example – I call my mom and say hello mom did you hear about the terrorist plot to blow up the moon?  She respond oh really tell me more!
This phone call was intercepted by Echelon, and keyword analysis tells the analyst that this phone call has some likelihood of having been about a terrorist event.  The analyst becomes concerned, maybe I plan to blow up the moon and thus deliver a truly Thundar the Barbarian scenario (Hey Ucla, what’s new!).  So the analyst retrieves the PRISM data and determines the call was made by phone number 123-123-1234 at 6:04pm on a nice Sunday.  They also know it was made using a cell tower at coordinates xx by yy.  If the call is still in progress they can dispatch a person to pick me up, oh and since my cell has GPS they know I am at xx.xx by yy.yy so I’m easy pickings.  If the call is over then they know about where I am so they can dispatch a nasty black van to search for me.
Now this is where it becomes really dangerous.
Recently Eric Holder released a memo which justified the use of lethal force against a known danger to homeland security. So if FISA decides I’m a threat a drone can justifiably be sent to nail me while my hand is on the phone still.
They key to this PRISM release is about context.  PRISM was the final link is a dastardly chain which allows, at least for a phone call, the full realization of the much vaunted “Total Information Awareness” program the NSA has been seeking for sometime.
No longer is your location private, as we learned we now have the capability to track you directly as well as use the meta data of the phone call to create maps of who you called and for how long. This is Total Information Awareness and the ultimate level.

Pilots, Doctors, & Scientists Tell The Truth About Chemtrails/Geo-Engineering  ~ could ALL this b cover for something else ..going on ???  ...maybe "somebody " else  is here ? or "they"  r coming ..... back ?

One factor that’s commonly overlooked when it comes to talking about human health and environmental degradation is geo-engineering and Solar Radiation Management (SRM), also known as “chemtrails.” The name seems to come from the fact that various geo-engineering and SRM programs use stratospheric aresols like barium, nano aluminum-coated fiberglass [known as CHAFF], radioactive thorium, cadmium, chromium, nickel, desiccated blood, mold spores, yellow fungal mycotoxins, ethylene dibromide, polymer fibers and more.
Below is a video of multiple scientists, doctors and pilots telling the truth about “chemtrails.” It’s a very serious issue that’s often ridiculed and thrown into the conspiracy realm. As a result I attached information from an article I recently wrote about the subject.
Below is information taken on the same subject that we recently published. I attached it to substantiate the claims made in the above video to give it more substance.

Pilots, Doctors & Scientists Tell Truth about Chemtrails [Excerpts]

Very Brief History of Weather Modification

“Weather modification is generally considered to be the deliberate effort to improve atmospheric conditions for beneficial human purposes . Not all weather modification activities, however, have been designed to benefit everyone, and have been used for purposes of war” (1)
“The US Navy launched a weapon capable of inducing a powerful earthquake on Haiti. This time it was only a drill, and the final part of it is destroying and taking over Iran.” -Hugo Chavez, (then) president of Venezuela
Weather modification dates back to the 1940′s, when the General Electric Company demonstrated that a cloud of super-cooled water droplets could be be transformed into ice crystals when seeded with dry ice. Shorty after this it was discovered that fine particles of pure silver iodide with a crystal structure similar to that of ice were effective for global weather modification. As a result:
“Silver iodide remains the most often used materia
 material in cloud seeding.”  (1)
The above statement was made in the 1970′s, but so much more has happened since. With silver iodide began the birth of spraying stratospheric aerosols into the Earth’s atmosphere. Silver iodide spraying began in the 1950′s (1), and has since proven to be extremely toxic, especially for the environment, human and animal health. You can learn more about it here.
Aluminum is another thing. It’s highly toxic and also very damaging to the environment.
The idea of spraying aluminum into our atmosphere goes way back, patents exist that clearly demonstrate the consideration of such materials that include the oxides of metals which have high emissivity. These include harmful substances like aluminum oxide and thorium oxide. A great patent example is one from the Hughes Aircraft Company that dates all the way back to 1990, that’s over twenty years ago. You can take a look at it here.
Fast forward to today, with even more chemicals added to the mix, this gives us the basic gist of geoengineering programs (image below) and why so many people are concerned about them.
“We do stuff in the stratosphere all the time off-course, so it’s not as though the stratosphere is absolutely pristine. But you don’t want to have people going off and doing things that involve large radioactive forgings, or programs that go on for extended periods or for that matter provide lots of reactive surfaces that could result in significant ozone destruction.” - (taken from the first film cited at end of article)
M. Granger Morgan, Carnegie Mellon University, University and Lord Chair Professor of Engineering and Public Policy, National Academy of Sciences Member

 Modern Day Spraying

“In addition to specific research programs sponsored by Federal agencies, there are other functions related to weather modification which are performed in several places in the executive branch. Various federal advisory panels and committees and their staffs – established to conduct in-depth studies and prepare reports, to provide advice or recommendations, or to coordinate weather modification programs - have been housed and supported within executive departments, agencies, or offices.” (1)
These programs are conduced by the department of defense, which means they remain classified, and why so many scientists and meteorologists don’t say anything about it. At the same time, all it really takes is observation.
Most of these programs are backed by the CIA and NASA, who are supporting the National Academy of Sciences with regards to geoengineering projects.(source)(source) Again, geo-engineering projects are any attempt to alter the way the planet or its weather systems operate, and as you can see, have been happening for a long time now.(source)(source)(source)(source)  The weather was even modified in China for the 2008 Olympics.(source)
If you are a constant observer of the skies, as I am, it’s not hard to see that something is already going on. After a day of spraying, the trails don’t evaporate, they spread out and block the sun.
Global dimming is another term people aren’t familiar with, 20 % of the Suns rays are not hitting the Earth. That means there’s a lot of metal up there” - Dane Wigington
Concerns have been voiced for years, by various individuals from all over the world. For example, Rosalind Peterson, president and Co-Founder of the Agriculture Defense Coalition (ADC), and x United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) employee stated at a 2007 United Nations hearing on global warming that:
“One of the things that’s affected by climate change is agriculture, but some of what we are seeing  is man made, but man made in a different way than what you may guess. Weather modification programs, experimental ones done by private companies, the US government, are underway and there are more than 50 operations underway across the United States. All of these impact agriculture because they change the micro-climates needed for agriculture to survive. None of these programs are done with oversight. International corporations are modifying our weather all the time, and modifying it in ways that cover thousands and thousands of square miles. Most of it is chemically altered, so what happens is that we are putting ground based chemicals that are shot into the air that change and modify our weather.”
You can read more, and view that full hearing here.
Geoengineering and chemtrails are a huge issue, and when talking about climate and environmental degradation, it’s something that must be mentioned, the fact that it’s not is very suspicious, given the fact that they’ve been spraying for and modifying our climate for so long.

In 2009, researchers published “Modification of Cirrus clouds to reduce global warming,” which proposed two methods of delivery for this same proportion of metallics to silica and the same staying power of one to two weeks. The report notes that “the proposed scenario by the IPCC [Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change] in 2001 is identical to the claims” in Hughes Aircraft’s 1991 patent. Hughes was acquired by Raytheon, a private defense contractor, in 1997, “the same company that acquired E-systems and the HAARP contract.”

In 2007, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) published a statement that included “Guidelines for the Planning of Weather Modification Activities.” Acknowledging that the modern technology of weather modification began in the 1940s, it is still “an emerging technology.”

Empire or Republic: Imperial Wars, Scaremongering and the Ebola Epidemic  ~  we got no $$$ ,folks  ... ah, oh right ..just 4 fucking WAR !!!  All in all the US spent $3.5 trillion for military invasions over 6 years.

“You Can’t Have Wars and Public Health”

petras
Washington escalates its military interventions abroad, launching simultaneous air and ground attacks in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan; multiplying drone attacks in Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia; training, arming and financing proxy mercenaries in Jordan, the Gulf States and Iraq; and dispatching National Guard battalions to West Africa, ostensibly to combat the Ebola epidemic, though they lack the most elementary public health capabilities.  All in all the US spent $3.5 trillion for military invasions over 6 years.
At the same time, the US domestic public health services have deteriorated.  At the state and local level, like Dallas, Texas and at the national level, officials and major institutions demonstrate an inability to effectively detect and manage cases of Ebola infections among the general population in a timely manner.  An infected Liberian immigrant was not diagnosed correctly when he presented to a major Dallas hospital emergency room.  Instead he received irrelevant and unnecessary ‘imaging studies’ and was sent home with oral antibiotics.  This confirmed the widespread belief that Emergency Room physicians and nurses are under pressure from their administration to order costly CT scans and MRI’s on patients as a way to make money for the hospital and to cover-up their incompetence at basic patient history and physical examination. Despite the patient’s informing hospital workers of his recent arrival from Liberia, an Ebola outbreak hot-spot, personnel did not put on basic protective gowns, gloves, hoods and masks and they allowed the febrile, vomiting, desperately sick man to contaminate large areas of the emergency department, waiting room and MRI suite.  Quarantine was not even considered. . . .
The director of the Dallas hospital covered up for his organization’s incompetence by a series of victim blaming – the patient, the computer system, the nurses…  National health guidelines may have been inadequate at the time, but Ebola was clearly on the national radar and the CDC had provided basic guidelines and measures.  All hospitals have infectious control committees, disaster preparedness committees and receive state and national alerts.
As the crisis and public panic deepened, President Obama engaged in vigorous political fund-raising.  Meanwhile, Vice President Biden was preoccupied by his 40+ year-old son’s expulsion from the Navy Reserve for cocaine use.  The Defense Secretary was busy picking targets to bomb in Syria and Iraq…
The Cabinet met over ‘National Security’ issues like ISIS, expanding military interventions around the world, while US medical personnel, international travelers and their family members, as well as average American citizens felt more threatened by the apparent breakdown of the public health system, both at the local and national levels, in the face of a deadly viral infection.
The inadequacy, indeed breakdown, of the US public health system as it confronts the first cases of Ebola in the US and the simultaneous escalation of military intervention in Syria and Iraq typifies, in microcosm, the demise of the US republic accompanying the rise of the US military empire.
The Dallas hospital, which had at first turned a desperately sick Liberian immigrant away, was run as a for-profit enterprise, directed by business managers eager for high returns and dismissive of basic health procedures and even more  of the advice of competent, experienced health workers:  They had made their biggest investments in high technology and multi-million dollar equipment, irrelevant to the diagnosis and treatment of tropical and infectious diseases. The pressure to use the most expensive technology inappropriately and recoup the corporate investment, resulted in a deadly delay in diagnosis and contaminated at least a dozen health care workers.  The corporate hospital director eventually apologized for their ‘mistakes’.  But the fault goes far beyond “bad decisions”:  The procedures and protocols are built into the ‘for profit’ model emphasizing the need show a healthy ‘return’ on multi-million dollar advanced technological investments.  There is a stark contrast between the high tech advances in imaging and surgery in a modern American hospital and the regressive, socially backward ignorance of the socio-medico context in which critically ill, infectious patients are embedded.  It is as if such patients are not supposed to enter the techno-medical world where only the most highly remunerative procedures and protocols are available for those… who can pay.
At the deeper level, the entire national public health system is increasingly dependent on the formulation of rules and flows of information, corrupted and distorted by ‘market demands’ and political priorities heavily weighted toward  expanding the police state at home and militarism abroad.  These political priorities in turn, are influenced by the massive shift in resources to support the permanent war policies of the Obama regime and the US Congress.
The proliferation and escalation of military interventions dominates the Obama Administration’s real agenda.  According to Assistant Secretary of State for Eastern European Affairs, Victoria Nuland, six billion dollars of public money was spent on subverting the elected government of the Ukraine – $6 billion shifted from US domestic sectors, like health care and real disaster preparedness.  Meanwhile hundreds of hospitals have been closed in most major US cities and rural clinics abandoned for lack of personnel.  The entire health care system, in its current ‘for profit’ corporate form is devoid of competent, effective leadership.  On the other hand, the US military is seen as the solution to the world’s (and increasingly domestic) problems, while the social roots of conflict and disaster are ignored with contempt.
The militarization of the minds of our political leaders has led to the most grotesque decisions:  In the face of the Ebola epidemic in West Africa, the Obama regime has sent 2000 National Guard combatants to Africa.  These are soldiers who lack the most elementary knowledge, skill, capability and training to deal with the complexities of a major public health crisis in a devastated, war torn part of the world.  One must recall how Washington pressured the United Nations to send ‘Peace-keepers’ to Haiti after the earthquake – UN soldiers from Nepal, who brought not peace but an epidemic of cholera killing additional tens of thousands of Haitian civilians.  The immediate question regarding US National Guard troops in West Africa is not whether they can build rural clinics or maintain camps of quarantined Africans, the real concern is whether these heavily armed ‘health aides’ can avoid being infected and bringing Ebola home.  This concern has now led the Pentagon to impose mandatory quarantine on its own soldiers returning from West Africa – a knee-jerk reaction motivated more by fear-mongering than science.
In contrast, Cuba has sent hundreds of highly skilled health workers, who form teams with proven track records in confronting public health crises in the tropics and elsewhere.  Cuban teams include skilled epidemiologists who develop effective local programs, based on real-time, on-the-ground fact-finding and assessment of available resources.  The enormous differences between the Cuban and US responses to the Ebola crisis reflects the profound contrast in their social and health systems:  Cuba has a free national health system and strong public health and civil defense structures using rigorous procedures and effective guidelines to set up clinics and camps appropriate to the objective conditions.  They emphasize the social context of disease and are not invested in expensive high tech medical equipment and tests irrelevant to the challenges at hand.  Their budget is not skewed toward promoting imperial wars: for the Cubans health and welfare is an integral political priority.
In contrast ‘health care’ in the US has become big business while military metaphysics dominate the minds and policies of the political and business elite.  The deterioration of basic health care delivery in general and the public health sector in particular is not only a consequence of a failure of political leadership, it also reflects the recurring and deepening economic crises.  Under the ‘War on Terrorism’ fear-mongering over bio-weapons, namely threatened Anthrax attacks, tens of billions of public money was diverted from public health at the national and state level and the corrupted, crippled system has never recovered.
The economic crisis, gripping the US, the European Union (EU) and beyond, is clearly manifested in the stagnation of the US economy.  The private corporate elite, who form the ruling class, are unable to sustain growth without massive US Treasury subsidies ($4.5 trillion dollars, according to the Financial Times (10/14/14).  The US has experienced extreme volatility in its stock market, together with the impoverishment of its working class and diminution of its middle class.  Heightened social inequalities are everywhere, especially in access to decent, effective health care.  In the EU, Germany’s economy is plunging from zero to negative growth, while France, Italy and Holland are in deep recession.  Greece, Spain and Portugal are in a prolonged depression, burdened by unpayable debts and unable to escape the downward social and economic spiral because of austerity programs imposed by Brussels.
Washington’s war policies, the concentration of state resources on financing military invasions and subsidizing the grossly inflated financial sector, account for the fatal deterioration of health and welfare services in the US.  Growing majorities feel the pain, and many more are alienated from the Presidential and Congressional elite – as well as from their own corrupt, incompetent local elected officials.
To safeguard the power of the military-financial elite, the political rulers have resorted to a series of “Horror Shows” – orchestrating vast propaganda spectacles designed to strike fear and loathing of ‘external enemies’ among the American public, in order to secure their submission and obedience to police state policies.
Recently, there was the lurid media shock of the Muslim terrorists in ‘ISIS’ beheading two American captives.  The public ‘horror’ was manipulated to justify the large-scale US military re-entry in Iraq and the air war against Syria – policies largely opposed by the war-weary US citizenry.
Close on the heels of the ‘beheading’ atrocities, came the spectacle of a fearsome African “Ebola” epidemic, spreading to the US and threatening Americans with brutally painful deaths…This was used to justify Obama’s sending of thousands of US National Guard to West Africa to act as “health workers”.
The total collapse of the public health systems throughout Africa follows decades of civil wars, fomented by US and EU military policies, in order to plunder Africa’s economies and rich natural resources – while marketing Western arms and mercenaries.  Militarizing the problems of Africa and creating millions of refugees has naturally led to plagues – Ebola today, malariayesterday and other infectious diseases and miseries tomorrow.
The immensely complex and catastrophic health crisis in West Africa is the stark backdrop to years of western propaganda hailing the massive growth of foreign investment in Africa’s extractive sectors – notably energy and mining.  The business press (Financial Times, Economist, Wall Street Journal…) featured images of “Africa; the Sleeping Giant Awakes”, describing of emergence of wealthy mineral enclaves powered by large-scale foreign investments, creating vast private foreign and local fortunes while ignoring the sea of massive poverty, broken public health clinics, non-existent schools and devastating living conditions, as well as the war-lord ravaged masses of refugees fleeing the fights over mineral-rich lands.  This created the ‘perfect storm’ for the emergence and spread of epidemics – like Ebola.
In Africa, under IMF and Western corporate dictates, entire budgets and foreign aid programs were channeled to finance infrastructure (roads, transport, ports, etc.) for extractive imperialism – while virtually nothing, in terms of public policy, was or is allocated to basic public health and preventative medicine.  The ‘focused’ programs of the ‘Gates Foundation’ and others served to divert African health workers and resources to the ‘NGO’s, rather than national, priorities and encouraged the flight of African doctors and nurses to the West.
The recent cases of Ebola in the US highlight the deterioration of national and local public health systems – the result of deregulation, privatization and corporatization of the medicine.  The ‘profit ethos’ permeates medical care in the US.  Cutbacks in preventive medicine, divorcing medical care from the social context of illness, as well as the lack of accountability and transparency in the face of erroneous diagnoses and inappropriate or incompetent care are consequences of the larger failures in public policy.  This also explains the emergence and rampant spread of multi-drug resistant bacterial infections within the hospitals and out in the communities.  The preference for expensive, profitable techno-medicine (marketed as ‘personalized’ health care) over competent ‘hands on’, science-based medicine rooted in an understanding of objective social conditions, has fueled the crisis and spread mass confusion among the public.
When the government engages in long-term, large-scale wars abroad, when the Treasury allocates trillions of public dollars to Wall Street for the better part of a decade, when the government secures submission (“consent”) via horror scenarios that replace public accountability with fear and loathing, we, the US public pay a steep price in public health under autocratic elite rule.
The recent ‘police-state’ response to an American nurse, Kaci Hickox, highlights the corrupt arrogance of US politicians and opinion leaders, long accustomed to control via fear-mongering and criminalizing dissent.  The fact that Nurse ‘Kaci’ arrived at ‘Liberty’ International Airport in perfect health from her months of heroic work in West Africa where she set up clinics and hospitals to help stem the Ebola crisis at its sources, did not dissuade the thuggish governor of New Jersey from confining her, like an animal, in a clear plastic cage in the parking lot of a Newark hospital.  Her successful fight for freedom against this arbitrary confinement exposed Governor Cristie and his side-kick, New York Governor Cuomo, as ignorant bellowing thugs, intent on making her ‘an example’.  Nurse Kaci Hickox’ victory of science and civil rights over brutal scare-mongering may be temporary – as the tendency has long been to militarize crises and erode citizen rights.
The American public is beginning to understand the relationship between this policy of scaremongering, the bail-out of billionaires and rampant militarism with the daily erosion of their standard of living, health and security and civil rights.  It will take more than a Nurse ‘Kaci’ to reverse the tide, but one tough competent nurse has set a glorious example.

The Rise and Fall of #Gamergate. The Web-based Movement of Gamers

internet3
“There seems to be a small yet vocal core of maniacs bafflingly resistant to the notion that women should have any say in the games industry at all.” – Charlie Brooker, The Guardian, Oct 20, 2014
Those playing computer games are a special breed.  Not perhaps pedigree, but certainly special.  The Gamergate drive has been bristling and firing with misogynistic venom for some months now, but already, Chris Plante of The Verge can claim that the movement “is dead”. Are such announcements, as they always tend to be, premature?  The “remainders represent a hate group and its banner, associated with bigotry and cruelty.”[1]
It may be one of the most pointless movements in recent years, even if pointlessness may have a good deal of lead in its pencil.  Given the span of human history, this is saying something.  Gamergate is an example of false significance, much like most social media activism.  The illusion granted by such space is that of a gun that never truly goes off.  The dangers become more acute when they spill off the application and the screen – much like the drone operator who suddenly wakes up to realise that a human target was just pulverised.  Distance and detachment are everything.
The ubiquity of the media and entertainment scape for these games suggests an effect in all proportion to its users. Programmer Boy (Eron Gjoni) meets game developer girl (Zoe Quinn), and, instead of parting ways in quiet indignation, it has to be noisily furious and infantile – and public.  Allegations were hurled Quinn’s way, a public rage via cyberspace rant.  Quinn, Gjoni said accusingly, had taken to bed with a journalist working for Kotaku, a video games news site.  The bedroom sojourn, he alleged falsely, translated into positive reviews of Quinn’s games.  Private details of Quinn were released.  A fire storm erupted.
Invariably, the movement became bifurcated, ignoring such fascinating hybrids as Charlie Brooker, who has managed to make gaming and criticism spell bindingly amusing.  It became clear, however, that both forms were deemed alien.  Both critic and gamer were going their separate ways.
As Taylor Wofford suggested, it was perceived as “a Web-based movement of gamers upset about a perceived lack of ethics among video games journalists.”  The other camp, as it were: “a Web-based harassment against women who make, write about and enjoy video games, masquerading as a movement of gamers upset about a perceived lack of ethics among games journalists.”[2]
Then came the hash tag authoritarians as an example of the former, suggesting a protocol in how to re-tweet material on the snarky subject.  “#GamerGate is about ethics in journalism. #NotYourShield is about women and minorities in games.  Why is this so hard for you?”  Tweet correctly, or be damned.
It seemed that obituaries were being declared at greater speed than well founded concepts.  David Auerbach, writing in Slate, decided to add one to the list in clumsy fashion. “Gamers are not over, but gaming journalism is.” Such a sentiment seemed fatuous, if only signalling, firstly, the credibility of the gamers’ acne driven grievances; and secondly, the meek stance of journalists who would make for the hills (presumably off the Internet), or at the very least, stay out of gamer territory.  The technological pervasiveness of gaming should make writers ignore, at the very least, such “stay out” signs.
Writers of the games culture, like Leigh Alexander, have been targets of the gaming community, notably over an article in which he suggested that “Game culture” was essentially an embarrassment.  “It’s just buying things, spackling over memes and in-jokes repeatedly, and getting mad on the Internet.”[3]  Such a “culture” was essentially an assemblage of dysfunctional beings, “a petri dish” of such sorts hopeless divorced from actual “human social interaction and professional life”.  More’s the pity for Alexander, who must feel that own sense of embarrassment.  The critic can very often be degraded by the subject under review.
Whatever sort of petri dish of culture this might be, it has been prominent in targeting female figures, be they as critics, gamers or even celebrities. The feminist media critic Anita Sarkeesian and software engineer Brianna Wu both had every reason to take the Gamergate movement, if it can be termed that, seriously, something beyond the cosy realm of reflective ethics.  They were hounded and harangued. They sought police protection.  Sarkeesian cancelled a talk at Utah State University heeding threats about inflicting “the deadliest school shooting in American history.”[4]  The hermetic chamber of social media fury was spilling over.
It is precisely because of such technology that impacts ripple with menacing force.  Distasteful events can magnify and multiply on Twitter, Reddit, 4chan, and, in this case, the gaming sites in question.  Reputations are sullied.  Even distant non-users can become the object of attack.  They can also become participants, agents in a belligerent engagement that seems peripheral yet central.
Australian writer John Birmingham put it perspective.  “Gamergate has become yet another front in the globalised Forever War against women, and the wider cultural enmity between progressives and reactionaries.”  He issues a call.  “If you understand that women, all of them, even [Australian Foreign Minister] Julie Bishop, who has no need for feminism, are still well served by the awareness that feminism brings systemic abuse of half the world’s population, and the call to action that awareness demands, then you stand at the centre of Gamergate.”[5]
Terrifyingly for the screeching movement, Gamergate has had to face a transformation of its own premises.  On screen, picking a female character in a game is bound to, as Brooker suggests, lead to “a stealth game with nowhere to hide”.  There are “respawning enemies” everywhere.  Stereotypes there are king, rather than queen.  But off the screen, there is something even more fundamental.  The number of female players is on the rise, even outpacing male users in some cases. “Women,” surmises Brooker in devastating fashion, “are the hardest hardcore gamers there are, by miles.”[6]
