State Police: All 26 Newtown Victims Shot With Assault Rifle

State Police: All 26 Newtown Victims Shot With Assault Rifle
Thursday, January 24, 2013 14:37

According to a newly released report from The CT Post, all 26 Newtown victims were killed by an assault rifle. Lt. J. Paul Vance also blamed 'conspiracy theorists' for 'muddying up the waters' in this horrific case which has drawn much interest from around the world as possibly being a 'false flag' attack, otherwise known as 'state sponsored terror':

Lt. J. Paul Vance, the face of an ongoing Connecticut State Police investigation into worst grade school shooting in U.S. history, on Thursday debunked media and Internet reports that Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza killed his victims with handguns and not the Bushmaster XM-15 rifle that is now the focus of a proposed federal assault weapons ban.

All 26 of Lanza's victims were shot with the .223 caliber semi-automatic rifle, said Vance, who bristled at claims to the contrary during an interview with Hearst Connecticut Newspapers.

"It's all these conspiracy theorists that are trying to mucky up the waters," said Vance, the longtime state police spokesman.

Some have cited a Dec. 15 "Today" show video clip from the day after the shooting, in which NBC News Justice Department correspondent Pete Williams said that four handguns were recovered inside Sandy Hook Elementary School and that the Bushmaster rifle was found in the trunk of a car owned by Lanza's slain mother, Nancy Lanza.

Why Lt. Vance would blame conspiracy theorists for muddying up the waters when NBC released the reports below stating that ONLY handguns were brought into the school according to their sources within the federal and state governments. Additionally, the second video below shows 2 (TWO) long guns being removed from Adam Lanza's car. Pay close attention to the 2 minute 28 second mark. Are there not 2 guns pulled out of the trunk?

New Google report reveals 68% of requests from U.S. government entities submitted without warrants

While Google’s transparency report released in late 2012 revealed that the U.S. continues to demand far more user information than any other nation, the newest report reveals a new dimension: the majority of the requests are submitted without probable cause warrants.
While readers of End the Lie are likely familiar with the U.S.’s massive warrantless wiretapping program and the fact that it is growing at an exponential rate, this is the first time that Google – which has a never-to-be-revealed relationship with the National Security Agency (NSA) – has actually released the number of warrantless requests received from U.S. government entities.
Keep in mind, that this type of surveillance is only a small part of the illegal warrantless surveillance in the United States as there is a great deal conducted under the auspices of the recently reauthorized FISA Amendments Act. In addition, the government requests massive amounts of subscriber information from mobile phone companies along with location data, which the Obama administration claims is not protected.
Google, a company closely tied to the American intelligence community, received 8,438 requests for user data between July and December 2012 alone, according to the latest transparency report released Jan. 23.
Slate’s Ryan Gallagher points out that this figure is a 6 percent increase over the 7,969 requests filed between January and June of last year.
According to the report, Google complied with an average of 89 percent of requests received from the United States government during 2012, down from 93 percent in 2011.
This transparency report is especially notable since it marks the first time that Google has detailed the various kinds of legal processes used by government entities to request user information.
In the case of the United States, 68 percent of requests were filed via subpoena instead of search warrant. Google notes on their official blog that subpoenas “are the easiest to get because they typically don’t involve judges.”
Only 22 percent were actually filed through Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) search warrants and according to Google, “are, generally speaking, orders issued by judges under ECPA, based on a demonstration of ‘probable cause’ to believe that certain information related to a crime is presently in the place to be searched.”
The remaining 10 percent were “mostly court orders issued under ECPA by judges or other processes that are difficult to categorize.”
While it is interesting to see that the number of fulfilled requests has gone down slightly, one must wonder how many requests actually go unrecorded given Google’s relationship with the NSA.
One can only speculate about the nature of their relationship and how much information is shared since a court ruling protected Google from ever having to disclose their relations and the NSA has similar refused to discuss it.
Regardless, it is clear that the United States is increasingly requesting private user information with a drastic rise of 100% over the past three years alone.
Privacy International, a group defending the right to privacy and fighting surveillance around the world, expressed deep concern in a press release today.
“Governments must stop treating the user data held by corporations as a treasure trove of information they can mine whenever they please, with little or no judicial authorization,” Carly Nyst, Privacy International’s Head of International Advocacy, said.
Nyst said that the report should “serve to remind individuals that any information they hand over to companies like Google, Facebook and Twitter is highly vulnerable to government intrusion.”
“The alarming statistics in this latest Transparency Report serve as a reminder of the need for stronger national and regional privacy protections in relation to online communications,” Nyst said.
Privacy International along with the Electronic Frontier Foundation will soon, “be publishing a set of International Principles on Communications Surveillance and Human Rights. We hope these principles will offer guidance to governments about the standards and safeguards that must be put in place to safeguard the right to privacy online,” according to Nyst.

Study accidentally exposes chemotherapy as fraud - tumors grow faster after chemo!

by Jonathan Benson, staff writer

(NaturalNews) A team of researchers from Washington state had a giant "Oops!" moment recently when it accidentally uncovered the deadly truth about chemotherapy while investigating why prostate cancer cells are so difficult to eradicate using conventional treatment methods. As it turns out, chemotherapy does not actually treat or cure cancer at all, according to the study's findings, but rather fuels the growth and spread of cancer cells, making them much harder to stamp out once chemotherapy has already been initiated.

You might call it the "smoking gun" that proves, once and for all, the complete fraud of the conventional cancer industry. Not only is chemotherapy, the standard method of cancer treatment today, a complete flop, based on the findings, but it is actually detrimental for patients with cancer. Published in the journal Nature Medicine, the shock findings which, not surprisingly, are being ignored by the mainstream scientific community, highlight in full detail how chemotherapy causes healthy cells to release a protein that actually feeds cancer cells and causes them to thrive and proliferate.

According to the study, chemotherapy induces healthy cells to release WNT16B, a protein that helps promote cancer cell survival and growth. Chemotherapy also definitively damages the DNA of healthy cells, a long-term detriment that persists long after chemotherapy treatment is stopped. This combined action of healthy cell destruction and cancer cell promotion technically makes chemotherapy more of a cancer-causing protocol than a cancer-treatment protocol, by definition, a fact that should grab the attention of anyone personally familiar with having, or knowing someone else who has cancer.

"WNT16B, when secreted, would interact with nearby tumor cells and cause them to grow, invade, and importantly, resist subsequent therapy," explained study co-author Peter Nelson from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington, about the findings, which he dubbed "completely unexpected." "Our results indicate that damage responses in benign cells ... may directly contribute to enhanced tumor growth kinetics," added the entire team about what they observed.

Avoiding chemotherapy improves health outcomes, suggests research

What this means, for all intents and purposes, is that the entire process of chemotherapy is completely worthless, and is actually highly detrimental for cancer patients. Anyone searching for a real cure will want to avoid chemotherapy, in other words, and pursue an alternate route. This may include investigating alternative treatments like the Gerson Therapy (http://www.naturalnews.com/Gerson.html), or evaluating anti-cancer foods and nutrients like sodium bicarbonate, turmeric, high-dose vitamin C, and vitamin D.

"Whatever manipulations we're doing to tumors can inadvertently do something to increase the tumor numbers to become more metastatic, which is what kills patients at the end of the day," admitted Dr. Raghu Kalluri, author of a similar study published last year in the journal Cancer Cell. This particular study found that cancer drugs, which are typically pushed alongside chemotherapy, cause tumors to metastasize.

You've just been Sandy Hooked - why everything from politics to health care is pure theater

You've just been Sandy Hooked - why everything from politics to health care is pure theater

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

(NaturalNews) America, you've just been Sandy Hooked. You have played the part of an audience watching a gargantuan theatrical production complete with fake actors, fake news coverage and a fake narrative. I'm not saying nothing happened at Sandy Hook and that children weren't killed; what I'm saying is that everything after the event was constructed as complete theater: the selective publicizing of only those parents the media wants you to see, the refusal to release actual video footage from inside the school, the rapid alteration of the official storyline to shift from handguns to the now-infamous "AR-15" that the media claims was used in the shooting, without a single shred of evidence that such a rifle even exists.

But it's not just Sandy Hook. I'm using the term "Sandy Hooked" in a much larger sense to encompass the recent fake inauguration of a President with a fake alias and an obviously faked birth certificate. The band was faked; the "live" singing was faked; the speech was teleprompter-driven; the news coverage was an orgy of fairyland wishes that have virtually no chance of ever coming true.

The fakery started long before Obama

But it's not even just Obama, you see. George Bush masterminded the faked war on terror and the fake justifications for the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, with all its fake authority but very real sexual molestation at the airports.

The federal government, whether under a Republican or a Democratic administration, operates with the arrogance of fake authority that was never granted to it under the Constitution. But you are suckered into it thanks to the help of the fake mainstream media news running fake stories based on faked evidence -- such as the CDC ridiculously claiming flu shots are "62% effective."

The FDA readily accepts faked medical studies as "scientific evidence." The psychiatric industry invents thousands of fake diseases and then claims the sole authority to diagnose and "treat" those fictitious conditions. The junk food industry runs endless television ads creating false impressions about their products which are loaded with artificial (faked) ingredients.

Yep, the blueberries in your blueberry muffins are faked. The aroma of McDonald's french fries is faked with chemicals. The fresh pink color of the sliced ham you bought is also faked (with sodium nitrite).

Mammograms generate 10 fake diagnoses of breast cancer for every real one. Chemotherapy is fake medicine (quackery) that actually causes cancer. In fact, the entire breast cancer industry is right now running a massive hoax by faking like it's "searching for the cure for cancer" -- an absurd idea, given that such a cure would instantly put the multi-billion-dollar cancer industry out of business.

At every turn, you're being Sandy Hooked with lies, disinfo and distractions from the things that really matter.

Hooked like a fish on the line

The entire gun control argument we're all hearing right now is a complete hoax. How will removing guns from the hands of law-abiding citizens magically cause criminals to turn them in? It won't. The argument is a hoax based on nothing more than irrational emotional appeal.

The banking industry is a grand, global conspiracy of financial fakery, where they steal the value of your money by generating more free money for themselves. The Federal Reserve isn't federal. And it has no reserves. It's all been faked!

Elections are faked on a grand scale. One-third of the Facebook troll comments you read on alternative channels like Natural News or Info Wars are generated by faked accounts run by linguistic algorithms to make them seem real. Nearly all online polls run by the mainstream media are completely faked -- manipulated to show the results they want.

Internet website awards are completely faked, too. I remember a couple of years ago when I was nominated for an award as a top health writer, and we had so much support that we easily beat all the other nominees and achieved a dominant first place position thanks to real votes placed by real people. What did the awards organization do? They deleted my nomination because they couldn't stand for Natural News to receive first place.

Google News is faked because they deleted all the real news sources from their system and now run only conformist, mainstream news sources. The TV news you see is completely faked because all the real stories are spiked while fake stories are scripted in order to show you only what they want you to see.

Government jobs numbers are faked (but you already knew that), and of course anytime a politician in Washington says they're going to "cut spending," that's always a complete fake (what they actually mean is they're going to slightly reduce the growth in spending).

The federal tax code is complete fakery. The government doesn't need a dime from you to operate itself. It can just create all the money it needs out of thin air just as we all witnessed with the bankster bailouts. The government can even create these new trillion-dollar coins to get out of debt. So if it can create trillion-dollar coins, why does it need any money from you and I? (Answer: It doesn't. The tax code exists solely as a form of social control.)

Oh yeah, and the education your children are receiving in public school is largely faked. Fake history, fake science and faked social studies. Public schools don't teach children about reality, they teach children to conform to popular mythologies.

You've all been Sandy Hooked. Not just from the actual Sandy Hook incident, but from birth. You're living in a Truman Show... the Matrix... the Island. (Those are three important movies to watch again.)

Your mind is used by manipulators for target practice. You are a puppet of their machinations, and you've been taught that everything REAL -- gold, guns, facts and farming -- is actually bad. If you want to be considered good, you must conform as an obedient order-taker who relishes his own enslavement.

Why this matters

Why does all this really matter? Because your SOUL is real, and your soul is here to experience a fulfilling life that's being stolen from you with every hoax, every faked event and every deception being played out in front of us.      http://www.naturalnews.com/038799_Sandy_Hook_theater_reality.html

When the insidious power brokers achieve such deep deceptions, they rob from you the opportunity to explore and express your true highest self during this short life experience.

Instead of being the amazing thinker, artist, innovator or leader you have the potential to be, you end up becoming a mind-controlled obedient conformist who is afraid to stand out.

The deceivers are stealing your LIFE from you, and they turning a life that could have held value into an unremarkable life that serves no higher purpose.

That's the real cost of all the fakery and theater: It's not that they're just lying to you, they are stealing from your soul and oppressing the true self just waiting to be activated inside you.

That's why I say wake up and see the Matrix. It's the only way to save your soul from the curse of having lived a life of mindless obedience instead of unbridled achievement and joy.

Steve Jobs Used Patents Like A Mob Boss: Threatened To Sue Palm Over Patents If It Poached Any Apple Employees

from the they're-weapons dept

It's long been clear to us that, rather than acting as incentives to innovators, or serving an important function by disclosing details about innovation, patents are little more than weapons to be used against innovators. We've highlighted numerous examples over the years, but recently-revealed emails between Steve Jobs and Ed Colligan (who was the CEO of Palm) highlight how Steve Jobs almost certainly illegally used patents as a weapon to threaten Palm away from hiring Apple employees. This all goes back to a DOJ investigation we wrote about years ago, concerning big Silicon Valley tech companies stupidly agreeing not to poach employees from each other. Not only is that an unfair restraint of trade, but as we've noted repeatedly, the free flow of employees between tech companies has been shown fairly conclusively to be a big part of why Silicon Valley companies tend to be so innovative.

While the DOJ settled with the tech companies, workers at those companies filed a civil lawsuit against their employers. Those companies have been trying to keep certain communications sealed and unavailable to the public, but Judge Lucy Koh rejected that request, leading to the public filing of an amazing declaration from Colligan that includes an email exchange between Colligan and Jobs, highlighting how Jobs sought to use patents as a weapon. Jobs told Colligan that if Palm hired more Apple employes, Apple would sue Palm for patent infringement. In the declaration, Colligan first explains how Jobs relayed the threat during a phone call:
In August 2007, I received a call from Steve Jobs, the Chief Executive Officer of Apple. In the months before the call, several employees had moved between the two companies. On the call, Mr. Jobs expressed concern about employees being hired away from Apple by Palm. As a solution, Mr. Jobs proposed an arrangement between Palm and Apple by which neither company would hire the other's employees, including high tech employees. Mr. Jobs also suggested that if Palm did not agree to such an arrangement, Palm could face lawsuits alleging infringement of Apple's many patents.

I did not agree to Mr. Jobs's proposal and responded by sending an email on 15 August 24, 2007
The email exchange is worth reading. Colligan makes a case for why it's silly to worry about employees changing companies, noting that every company wants to hire the best employees period, and that there's a big enough market for everyone. He notes, correctly, that the proposed agreement is "not only wrong, it is likely illegal." As he points out: "We can't dictate where someone will work nor should we try. I can't deny people who elect to pursue their livelihood at Palm the right to do so simply because they now work for Apple, and I wouldn't want you to do that to current Palm employees. We can both try to persuade them to stay but, at the end of hte day, it is their choice, and a choice we should respect."

From there he discusses just how dumb the patent threats are, pointing out that suing over patents doesn't help anyone:
Steve, we don't want to hurt Apple. As I said on the phone, Palm is focused on building the best team in the industry, and we know there is a lot of quality talent outside of Apple. On the other hand, this is a small space, and it's inevitable that we will bump into each other. Threatening Palm with a patent lawsuit in response to a decision by one employee to leave Apple is just out of line. A lawsuit would not serve either of our interests, and will not stop employees from migrating between our companies. This is a very exciting time for both of our companies, and the market is certainly big enough for both of us. We should focus on our respective businesses and not create unnecessary distractions.
He follows it up by noting that any such lawsuit would just create a nuclear war situation, since Palm has its own patents, though he clearly notes that the only people this benefits are the lawyers:
That said, I want to be clear that we are not intimidated by your threat. Palm has a very robust portfolio of patents, having been in the handheld and smartphone businesses since the early 90's. in addition, Palm now owns the former Siemens mobile patent portfolio, most recently held by BenQ Corporation. This mobile computing and communications portfolio includes over 1500 patent assets, the majority filed in Europe. If you choose the litigation route, we can respond with our own claims based on these patent assets, but don't think litigation is the answer. We will both just end up paying a lot of lawyers a lot of money.
Entirely true. And then Steve Jobs hits back, first mocking Palm by noting that Apple has a lot more money, so it doesn't mind throwing money away to lawyers on a bogus patent lawsuit as long as it hurts Palm, and then mocking the quality of Palm's patents that it acquired from BenQ:
I'm sure you realize the asymmetry in the financial resources of our respective companies when you say: "We will both just end up paying a lot of lawyers a lot of money."

Just for the record, when Siemens sold their handset business to BenQ they didn't sell them their essential patents but rather just gave them a license. The patents they did sell to BenQ are not that great. We looked at them ourselves when they were for sale. I guess you guys felt differently and bought them. We are not concerned about them at all. My advice is to take a look at our patent portfolio before you make a final decision here.
As Dan O'Connor notes in the Patent Progress blog post above, this is no different than a mob boss protection racket, using the patents to warn Palm not to hire any more Apple employees or (effectively) "someone might get hurt" -- with the patents standing in for the traditional baseball bat.

Antigua Government Set to Launch “Pirate” Website To Punish United States

The Government of Antigua is planning to launch a website selling movies, music and software, without paying U.S. copyright holders. The Caribbean island is taking the unprecedented step because the United States refuses to lift a trade “blockade” preventing the island from offering Internet gambling services, despite several WTO decisions in Antigua’s favor. The country now hopes to recoup some of the lost income through a WTO approved “warez” site.
antiguaAntigua and Barbuda is a small country in the Caribbean that for years had a flourishing gambling industry.
A few years ago 5% of all Antiguans worked at gambling related companies. However, when the U.S. prevented the island from accessing their market the industry collapsed.
“What was once a multi-billion dollar industry in our country, employing almost 5% of our population has now shrunk to virtually nothing,” Antigua’s High Commissioner to London, Carl Roberts, said previously.
Hoping to rebuild the gambling business Antigua filed a dispute at the World Trade Organization (WTO), which they won.
In 2005 the WTO ruled that the US refusal to let Antiguan gambling companies access their market violated free-trade, as domestic companies were allowed to operate freely. In 2007 the WTO went a step further and granted Antigua the right to suspend U.S. copyrights up to $21 million annually.
TorrentFreak is informed by a source close to Antigua’s Government that the country now plans to capitalize on this option. The authorities want to launch a website selling U.S. media to customers worldwide, without compensating the makers.
The plan has been in the works for several months already and Antigua is ready to proceed once they have informed the WTO about their plan. Initially the island put the topic on the WTO meeting last month, but the U.S. blocked it from being discussed by arguing that the request was “untimely.”
This month Antigua will try again, and if they succeed their media hub is expected to launch soon after.
Antigua’s attorney Mark Mendel told TorrentFreak that he can’t reveal any details on the plans. However, he emphasized that the term “piracy” doesn’t apply here as the WTO has granted Antigua the right to suspend U.S. copyrights.
“There is no body in the world that can stop us from doing this, as we already have approval from the international governing body WTO,” Mendel told us.
TorrentFreak is in the process of obtaining details of the content to be offered and the prices to be charged. One option would be to ask users for $5 a month in return for unlimited access to U.S. media.
As predicted, the suggestion to suspend U.S. copyrights is already meeting resistance from United States authorities.
“If Antigua actually proceeds with a plan for its government to authorize the theft of intellectual property, it would only serve to hurt Antigua’s own interests,” the U.S warned in a letter to the WTO last month.
According to the letter Antigua will ruin their chances of getting a settlement should they approve a site that sels U.S. copyrighted goods without compensating the makers.
“Government-authorized piracy would undermine chances for a settlement that would provide real benefits to Antigua. It also would serve as a major impediment to foreign investment in the Antiguan economy, particularly in high-tech industries,” the U.S. added.
Antigua doesn’t appear to be impressed much by these threats and is continuing with its plan.
If the Antiguan media portal indeed launches, it will make headlines all across the world, which may result in the site becoming one of the larger authorized suppliers of U.S. media on the Internet.

You Can't Hide the Hookers: Candid Advice From a Business Manager

Here's the lowdown on when to pay for a fancy dress instead of rent, how to avoid shady contractors and why actors should never lie about their expenses.

This story first appeared in the Oct. 12 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.
Your business manager is your protector. I am here to help you make the most out of your life, and since I have a great relationship with money and an intimate understanding of your finances, I am a tremendous resource for you. Here are five brutally honest tips to keep your balance sheet healthy:
1. KNOW WHEN TO SPLURGE
Hollywood people often find themselves having to make tough money choices. I repped an actress who was almost broke but needed a splashy new dress for a big premiere. It was either buy the dress or pay her rent. We sat down, discussed the options and decided she had to go for it. She bought an incredible outfit, walked the red carpet and was a complete knockout. That dress literally changed her career, and she has been working steadily ever since. And now she has a ton of cash in the bank.
LIST: THR's Power Business Managers 2012
2. KNOW WHEN TO SAVE
I go to great lengths to keep people solvent. You need to have reserves in the bank in case you don't get that offer during pilot season. If the funds start running low, make hard choices NOW! Take a cab to the premiere and hope a friend has a studio town car that can drop you at home. (Just make sure the cab lets you off down the street, and walk the rest of the way.)
3. JUST SAY NO TO DUMB INVESTMENTS
The market crash a few years ago changed everything. People that had no access to cash got screwed. That's why I plead with clients to avoid too many brokerage accounts, the dumb restaurant investments, the hedge funds with five-year waiting periods to withdraw. Higher eventual "returns" don't mean anything if you don't have the cash to pay the mortgage. Too many people in Hollywood are forced to wave bye-bye to all their houses. It's sad.
4. DON'T BE SUCKERED BY FAKE DEALS
Construction projects are the worst money pits, period. Celebrities get so much given to them for free, some think this applies to remodels. It doesn't. I always suggest three or four contractors my firm has vetted, but occasionally an actor will go rogue and hire a "contractor" that promises him a deal: "Just refer me to your other A-list friends." These people are stalkers or crooks (or both). I end up having to swoop in and appease the unpaid subcontractors who are about to file liens on the property. NEVER give contractors big lump sums, and always pay subs directly. Oh, and that reduced-price job just cost you 30 percent more than my top-notch guy.

5. OWN UP TO YOUR WILD PARTYING
I've seen it all, so don't be embarrassed by your go-go lifestyle. But please don't try to lie to me because you can't hide the hookers. I see the late-night ATM withdrawals at Les Girls, the cell-phone bills and the bank statements. It's easy to piece together last Saturday night's events. I've had clients "redirect" paychecks to a secret account, but I always find out because I reconcile W2s. I'm trained to catch sneaky maneuvers -- that's how I prevent people from stealing from you! BTW, I know that a charge to PCLTD on your Visa is for the Pleasure Chest … we just code that to "personal."

James Taylor Sues Warner Bros. Records for Nearly $2 Million (Exclusive)

Folk rock artist says he should be getting more in royalties from digital downloads.

Add James Taylor to the list of musicians suing record labels over royalties from iTunes and other digital outlets.
The famed singer-songwriter filed a complaint against Warner Bros. Records on Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court claiming approximately $2 million in damages. The new lawsuit is among many in recent months to take issue with the way record companies treat digital income.
Taylor, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2000 with such hits as "You've Got a Friend," "Sweet Baby James" and "Carolina in my Mind," signed his first deal in 1969 when his production company entered into a distribution agreement with Warner Bros.' predecessor company. The contract was amended in 1972.

Like many musicians, Taylor got a deal that treated records "sold" different than when recordings were "licensed." The royalty rate for Taylor for sales is between 10 to 12 percent. The royalty rate for licenses is 50 percent of net receipts.
In the late 1970s, Taylor left WBR for Columbia Records. In 1979, Taylor and WBR executed a "termination and settlement agreement" that provided for continued payments with some modifications as well as auditing rights. In 2002, the parties made another amendment to their agreement with new rates so that a new "Greatest Hits" album could be released and old albums could be remastered and reissued, but WBR never re-released the albums, and Taylor says the 2002 agreement doesn't apply.
Under the auditing rights from the 1979 settlement, Taylor has been auditing WBR's accounting since 2008.
The results of two audits have purportedly turned up several forms of underpayment.
This includes smaller ticket items like foreign receipts, budget sales and the unauthorized use of Taylor's songs on certain compilation albums. It also includes intriguing items like an alleged smaller-than-expected share of proceeds from WBR's $110 million settlement with Napster (Taylor got 0.24 percent instead of the claimed amount, approximately 0.33 percent).

But the biggest pot of money comes over the issue of whether Taylor should be splitting money equally with WBR whenever a consumer downloads one of his old songs from iTunes, Verizon and other digital or mobile outlets.
Others have sued over this same issue, including Kenny Rogers, Chuck D, Rob Zombie, Rick James, Sister Sledge, Peter Frampton, George Clinton and on and on...
Many of these lawsuits, including the latest from Taylor, mention the case brought by Eminem's producers and the 2010 decision at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals suggesting digital downloads should be treated as "licenses."
WBR hasn't yet responded to a request for comment, but according to the lawsuit, the record company denies that downloads off of digital outlets require a 50 percent share. In addition, the parties have had discussions about this for some time and in 2010 entered into a tolling agreement to extend the statute of limitations on claims to Sept. 14, 2012. At the deadline, Taylor decided to bring the lawsuit.
"Warner Bros.' failures have created a dispute of almost $2,000,000 with respect to Warner Bros.' breach of the Distribution Agreement and its various Amendments."
Taylor is represented by Paul Duvall and Richard Busch at King & Ballow.

January 20th, 2013 by

canada kindle store NOAmazon is a company that usually treats their customers quite well, so today’s news of their recent boneheaded maneuver comes as a shock.
I have received multiple reports (here, here, here) today that Amazon is now refusing to allow their Canadian customers to buy Kindle ebooks from Amazon.com.
Amazon has been selling Kindle ebooks to Canadians since the Kindle Store went international in August 2009, and even though they did little to build up a market share Amazon has still managed to attract a number of Canadian ebook readers.
Over the past couple days several of those readers have reported that many Kindle titles are showing up on Amazon.com as not being available to Canadian customers even though the same titles will show up on Amazon.ca as being available.
For example, Cloud Atlas is listed in the Amazon.com Kindle Store but if you have your country code set to Canada you will see this:
cloud atlas Canada Kindle
That same title is available as a Kindle ebook on Amazon.ca.
So far as I can tell, the only ebooks still available to Canadian Kindle owners are titles distributed via KDP, seriously limiting their ability to make use of their Kindles.
Update: I’ve just been told on Twitter that Amazon pulled this same trick on Brazilian Kindle owners. They’re not happy either.
I’m sure that some readers are thinking this isn’t a big deal; after all Kindle owners in the UK, Spain, Japan, and elsewhere are directed to buy Kindle ebooks from their local Amazon websites. It might not look like a big deal that Canadian Kindle owners are being forced to do the same but at least some of the customers would disagree.
Amazon is pushing their Canadian Kindle customers to transfer accounts from Amazon.com to Amazon.ca, but one source told me that he would lose access to a lot of content if he did so.
First, while Amazon claims that any purchased ebooks will be available* after a Canadian Kindle owner transfers their account that’s not completely true. The ebooks might be transferred, but I’m told that a customer’s purchase history is not transferred and the wish lists are also abandoned.  That’s going to make it a lot harder for some readers to keep track of what they own and what they want to buy.
Oh, and that claim about the Kindle content transferring isn’t exactly true. Amazon.ca doesn’t yet support subscriptions, nor does it offer Kindle Serials. That means this Kindle content will be lost in the transfer process along with any back issues that had been saved. What’s more, Amazon.ca doesn’t offer music and video so transferring an account will prevent customers from accessing media they’ve already purchased.
I can understand why Amazon might want to move Canadian customers to their local site, but it is also pretty damn clear that Amazon did not realize how this would hurt their customers. Some of these folks have been buying Kindle ebooks for the past three years – ever since the Kindle Store went international in 2009.
That’s over 3 years in which they built up a presence on Amazon.com, and now Amazon wants them to simply throw it away. Why would any customer do that? There’s nothing in it for the customer. Much would be lost in the transfer and nothing gained.
What’s particularly surprising about Amazon’s misstep is that it comes so soon after a similar blunder on the part of Barnes & Noble.

B&N Leads the Way

As you probably know, a couple months back B&N announced the imminent closure of Fictionwise. B&N wanted all ex-Fictionwise customers to transfer their accounts to the Nook Store, and in at least my case they were successful in transferring much if not all of the content.
But Fictionwise’s international customers did not have the same luck. They were basically told to go piss up a rope. B&N doesn’t sell ebooks outside of the US and UK, so rather than keep Fictiownise running and support the international customers they decided to not allow former Fictionwise customers to create accounts in the Nook Store (unless you have a US credit card and shipping address). Instead these customers will only be able to save the content they download before 31 January 2013.
B&N has engendered a degree of ill will with their blunder that far exceeds any damage Amazon might do, and it is a lesson Amazon should have learned from rather than making a similar mistake. But at least Amazon is going to be able to recover from their mistake; all they need to do is apologize and make it up to the customers who complain.
In writing off all the international customers, Barnes & Noble probably harmed their international expansion plans. They might not have pissed off a large number of people in absolute terms but when competing against a juggernaut like Amazon every little bit helps.

I am more than well aware of the issues of book and other content markets being divided based on national borders, and we all understand that you can’t buy everything everywhere. My acceptance of that situation ends when companies blithely start taking away legitimately purchased content just because they decide it doesn’t suit the way they’re organized their business.
That’s a different issue.
(Thanks, Stephen!)

Cyber War: A One-Sided Battle Against A Trumped Up Enemy

from the what-is-it-good-for?--absolutely-nothin' dept

You would have to be a deaf and blind person with a penchant for head-burying to have missed the drum beats of a supposed cyber war the American government has been touting over the past year or so. It's a one-sided conversation that has been hyperbolic on a level normally associated with sketch comedy. Terms like "Cyber Pearl Harbor" are thrown around without any sense of historical context. In fact, many are questioning whether the entire production is simply a political game, with no real threat existing at all. Unfortunately, many more Americans have now incorporated this manufactured fear into their psyches. Still, the drum beat continues, with the United States labeling Iran as our chief enemy in this inevitable, or perhaps already occurring, cyber war.

The problem, of course, is that anyone who spends a couple minutes studying what's actually happening realizes that this is a one-sided war, likely started by the West, and our opponent is fighting against our tanks with pea-shooters.
The first shot was probably the release of Stuxnet sometime during or before 2009. Even though no one has officially claimed responsibility everyone knows who was behind it. Stuxnet hit with a bang and did a whole lot of damage to Iran's uranium-enrichment capabilities. The United States followed that up with Flame–the ebola virus of spyware.

What did the Iranians fire back with? A series of massive, on-going and ineffective DDoS attacks on American banks. This is a disproportionate response but not in the way military experts usually mean that phrase. It's the equivalent of someone stealing your car and you throwing an ever-increasing number of eggs at his house in response.
That's what makes all of this seem so monumentally silly. The government is making use of an American public, which is massively ignorant about who and what Iran is and is capable of, to go legislatively nutbars in our own country. Don't ask me why they're doing it, but they are. Perhaps more importantly, we're being told that we need legislation to protect against an incapable enemy in a war that we started. If that makes sense to you, chances are you need psychiatric care.

And even more problematic, and frustrating for me personally, is that our government isn't even putting in the effort to fool me properly. It's one thing to have Colin Powell waving a test tube at Congress and shouting "We're all going to die!", but it's quite another to have folks like Gen. William Shelton talking about potential risks in a potential war that we potentially started with a potential threat that we created by attacking it. That's entirely too much potential and not enough blatant falsehood. If the government wants to bullshit us, they can't go in half way. I need real creative lying, not nonsense reports that they have to subsequently pull because they're...you know...made up.
ProPublica reported yesterday that a widely cited Defense Department study claiming Iran's Intelligence Ministry constitutes "a terror and assassination force 30,000 strong" has been "pulled for revisions." It seems there's no proof whatsoever that the 30,000 number wasn't pulled out of thin air.
See, it's not that I'm siding with the pea-shooters here, it's that I'm more scared of the guys that started this war with their tanks. Particularly when the result is poorly-conceived legislation.

That's a stretch: Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o apparently falls for Ronaiah Tuiasosopo impersonating a female voice on the phone, saying he is 'Lennay Kekua.'

The bizarre Manti Te’o fake girlfriend frenzy reached a new low — with a high-pitched confession.

Hoax mastermind Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, posing as the mysterious Lennay Kekua, was the falsetto voice on the other end of the all-night phone calls with the Notre Dame star, the scammer’s lawyer said.

The Heisman Trophy finalist “thought it was a female he was talking with,” lawyer Milton Grimes acknowledged to the Daily News. “It was Ronaiah as Lennay.”

Grimes, best known for helping Rodney King win a multimillion-dollar judgment against the city of Los Angeles, compared the deception to an actor playing a role.

“Come on, Hollywood does it all the time,” Grimes said Wednesday. “People can do that.”

HINKLEY: TIME TO INVEST IN EMBARRASSED CELEBS

The photos of Lennay were swiped from the Facebook page of Diane O’Meara, a high school classmate of Tuiasosopo.

Tuiasosopo’s résumé includes vocal and dramatic training. He was president of his high school drama club, performs with a Christian band and auditioned last year for the TV talent show “The Voice.”

Grimes insisted that former high school football star Tuiasosopo, 22, wasn’t trying to hurt or humiliate Te’o.

Diane O'Meara (l.) is the unsuspecting woman whose photos are used to fool Manti Te'o. Ronaiah Tuiasosopo (r.) is the master mind behind the hoax and impersonates a female voice on the phone.
“This wasn’t a prank to make fun,” Grimes told The News. “It was establishing a communication with someone. ... It was a person with a troubled existence trying to reach out and communicate and have a relationship.”

Grimes declined to answer when asked to elaborate on his client’s intentions or what type of relationship he wanted with the college football star: “I wouldn’t describe his issues at this time.”

Te’o, in an interview with Katie Couric, said he painted himself into a corner with all the attention surrounding his relationship and Kekua’s “death” on Sept. 12.

The moving tale of the girlfriend’s battle with leukemia became a touchstone of the Fighting Irish season, particularly after Te’o announced that she passed away on the same day as his beloved grandmother.

Te’o denied any role in the hoax, but admitted perpetuating the story even after a Dec. 6 phone call from “Lennay” insisting she faked her death to dodge drug dealers.

Te'o runs drills to prepare for the upcoming NFL draft.
The voice on the other end of that incredible phone call belonged to Tuiasosopo, according to Grimes.

“Katie, put yourself in my situation,” Te’o said in the interview that airs in full Thursday. “This girl, who I committed myself to, died on Sept. 12. Now I get a phone call on Dec. 5, saying that she’s alive and then I’m going to be put on national TV two days later.”

Grimes said the delay in his client’s making a public statement is tied to a California law that went into effect Jan. 1 — making it a crime to create a false identity online.

Tuiasosopo is seeing a mental health professional and wants to tell his side of the story, the lawyer said.

Grimes did insist that the timing of Kekua’s tragic “demise,” within hours of the grandmother’s death, was just a strange coincidence.

And he was adamant his client is a good guy who simply made a mistake.

“He’s torn by this,” Grimes said. “He didn’t mean for anyone to be hurt. Anything that he has done, he has apologized to those he could apologize to.”

Does Writing Make Us Smarter? How About Typing?

Lisa Garber
writenotes 265x165 Does Writing Make Us Smarter? How About Typing?Despite the rapid pace of the digital age, it’s still too soon to toss the paper and pen. Actually, you may never want to writing for good – if you want to further develop your brain, that is.
“It sounds old-fashioned,” admits Kathleen Wright, a textbook publisher, “when you put forth the argument that you lose connection with the past. But then there’s also that scientific aspect of it. We don’t know what’s going to happen later on if you don’t teach children how to write on paper or how to write cursive.”
While there are undoubtedly benefits to teaching children typing skills, the shrinking time spent on cursive and even handwriting in school classrooms may have negative effects on children’s development. Cursive writing especially seems to have a unique, positive impact on brain development. Even adults have much to gain from setting pen to paper.

But What Makes Writing So Different from Typing?

The answer is fairly simple: it takes more brain power. Writing combines three brain processes and more strenuously exercises the brain.
  • Visual: Seeing the writing.
  • Motor: Using fine motor skills to move the pen or pencil against the paper to produce letters, characters, words, and sentences.
  • Cognitive/perceptive: Drawing on memory to reproduce letters and form new ones.
Indiana University psychology professor Karin James put twelve four- and five-year olds into two groups, scanning their brains before and after either being taught to visually recognize letters or being taught to write letters. The children who wrote rather than simply remembering the letters had enormous activity spikes in the brain. Results were similar in a Japanese study at Chiba University by M. Naka, who found that first, third, and fifth grade Japanese children better learned pseudologographic characters and foreign letters better by writing than by looking only.
Health writers over at FYI Living summarized original peer-reviewed research and concluded that, because of the more strenuous motor skills involved in laboriously shaping a letter (as opposed to singular strikes to the keyboard), the integrative process itself improves brain function, composition and expression, and further attunement of fine motor skills.
When it comes to the brain, you can use it or lose it. Studies like M. J. Valenzuela’s at the Brain and Mind Research Institute at the University of Sydney show that those of us who are more mentally active throughout our lives lower our risk of dementia and related diseases. Like our bodies, our minds too need regular exercise.

SSDI Says Adam Lanza Died a Day Before Sandy Hook Massacre?

ssdi-says-adam-lanza-died-a-day-before-sandy--L-T1DLHB
Adam and Nancy Lanza
More “make crazy” information on the Sandy Hook massacre.
On December 14, 2012, beginning at around 9:30 a.m., a lone gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, blasted past the security system of Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, and killed 20 first-grade students and 6 adults.
Before his killing spree in the school, Lanza had first killed his 52-year-old mother by shooting her four times in the face as she was lying in bed in the family mansion on Yogonanda Street.
When Adam heard police arriving at the school, he turned a gun on himself and committed suicide.
Or so we’re told.
A sharp-eyed citizen journalist, “Space Command” on Prison Planet Forum discovered something amazing: a Social Security Death Index (SSDI) for an Adam Lanza, born April 22, 1992, who died at age 20 on December 13, 2012! That’s a day BEFORE the Sandy Hook massacre.
Adam P. Lanza: Social Security Death Index (SSDI) Death Record
Name: Adam P. Lanza
State of Issue: New Hampshire
Date of Birth: Wednesday April 22, 1992
Date of Death: Thursday December 13, 2012
Est. Age at Death: 20 years, 7 months, 21 days
Confirmation: Proven
Here’s a screenshot I just took of the SSDI record on the website GenealogyBank.com, as a prophylactic in case the site scrubs the page:

Note that:
  • SSDI says “Confirmation” is “Proven.”
  • The State of Issue is New Hampshire, not Connecticut.
GenealogyBank.com also has the SSDI record on Nancy Lanza, who died on the day of the massacre, December 14, 2012:
Nancy Lanza: Social Security Death Index (SSDI) Death Record
Name: Nancy Lanza
State of Issue: New Hampshire
Date of Birth: Tuesday September 06, 1960
Date of Death: Friday December 14, 2012
Est. Age at Death: 52 years, 3 months, 8 days
Confirmation: Proven
Here’s a screenshot I took of the GenealogyBank.com page:
ssdi-says-adam-lanza-died-a-day-before-sandy--L-uYVn4F
The “State of Issue” being New Hampshire jogged my memory. I had seen New Hampshire in reference to Nancy Lanza before.
Indeed, I had.
On December 19, 2012, Rachel Quigley reports for the Daily Mail:
Sandy Hook gunman Adam Lanza was left home alone with an arsenal of weapons in the $1.4million mansion he lived in with his mother for three days while she went on vacation, it emerged today. [...] According to Headline News, Nancy Lanza had left Adam alone while she went on a mini-break to Bretton Woods in New Hampshire – something she often did. [...] The 52-year-old checked into the Omni Mount Washington Resort at 12:10pm on Tuesday, December 11, and checked out at 12:27pm on Thursday, [December 13].

So does this information prove that this was a false flag operation? Many people don’t believe this was a conspiracy even including Jesse Ventura (read our latest article). If this information above doesn’t change your mind, then you need move on and keep believing the Government & the MSM. More info to come as it becomes available.

Gold and Geopolitics: US has Largest Gold Reserves, China is World’s Largest Producer of Gold

http://www.globalresearch.ca/geopolitics-and-the-world-s-gold-holdings/24462
Geopolitics and the World's Gold Holdings
Both the US dollar and the Euro currency systems are in crisis. During a period of waning currencies, where the value of money (in paper and/or electronic form) is tumbling, the strategic control over gold reserves and gold production is of paramount importance.
The issue is not only who controls the stock of central bank gold reserves, but who, namely which countries, control the production of mine gold.
While the US has the largest official gold reserves, China has become the World’s largest producer of mine gold.
The main players with regard to mine gold are China, Australia, Russia, South Africa, the US and Canada.
Anglo-American corporate interests exert a dominant control over mine gold. The World’s largest gold mining companies are Barrick Gold (Canada), GoldCorp Inc. (Canada), Newmont Mining, (USA).
Below are the official country level central bank holdings of gold (scroll down) as well as estimates of mine production of gold by major gold producing countries.
The figures on gold holdings pertain to central bank holdings. They do not include private holdings of gold by individuals and financial institutions.
The official central bank figures cannot be verified, nor can the total amount of gold derivatives transacted in financial markets.  There is no reliable data on private gold holdings, which have developed over several centuries.
With regard to official US gold holdings at Fort Knox, there has been no independent audit of official holdings. According to Rep. Ron Paul: “Our Federal Reserve admits to nothing, and they should prove all the gold is there. There is a reason to be suspicious, and even if you are not suspicious, why wouldn’t you have an audit?” (Ron Paul calls for audit of US Gold Reserves, quoted in The New American, August 30, 2010).
The last and only time that an audit was performed on the gold held in Fort Knox was issued within hours of President Dwight Eisenhower’s inauguration on January 20, 1953.” (New American, op.cit. emphasis added)
Physical gold holdings constitute a crucial geopolitical variable in the confrontation between competing economic powers. They are also central to an understanding of the debt crisis.
Both Russia and China have significantly increased their gold holdings in recent years. Large amounts of US dollar denominated debt instruments have been converted into gold.
The official figures for China are based on released data by the People’s Bank of China. There is reason to believe that only part of the official purchases are made public, to the extent that the People’s Bank of China reserves may be much higher those recorded in official statistics. Conversely, there is reason to believe that US holdings at Fort Knox may be significantly lower than what is conveyed in official figures.
“China is on a gold buying spree these days. The Chinese central bank-the People’s Bank of China-is taking a series of steps to increase its gold reserves to ensure that the precious yellow metal replaces forex reserves held in the US dollar. In the last few months, there have been talks of China following India in buying gold reserves from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). So when IMF announced that it would be selling its remaining 191 tonnes of gold in the open market, several bullion analysts predicted that China would somehow jump into the fray and buy IMF gold. Both China and India are competing in the global bullion markets to be the largest consumers and importers of gold.” (See ibtimes.com).
Both China and Russia are major producers of gold. Of geopolitical significance, China is the World’s largest producer of physical gold.
2009 Mine Production
According to 2009 figures, China is the World’s largest gold producer; 313.98 metric tons,
representing 11.8 percent of global gold production.
1. China: 313.98 mt
2. Australia: 227.00 mt
3. United States: 216.00 mt
4. South Africa: 204.92 mt
5. Russia: 205.00 mt
6. Peru: 180mt (estimate)
7. Indonesia: 90.00 mt
8. Canada: 95.00 mt (estimate)
9. Ghana 90.20 mt
10. Uzbekistan 80mt (estimate)
Other: 854mt
TOTAL: 2572mt
