New Xbox Violates Privacy, Can Watch Your Every Move

Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One has been highly anticipated — but it also has some people worried, due to possible privacy violations. Especially since it was revealed on Thursday that Microsoft was a partner in the National Security Agency’s (NSA) expansive Internet surveillance program.
The Kinect is a critical aspect of the new Xbox consoles. The Kinect is a motion sensing camera that lets users play interactive games and operate the Xbox using only physical motion and hand gestures. Many in the tech world consider it to be the landmark of a new era in gaming.
One worrisome aspect of the Kinect, however, is that you cannot power on your Xbox console without first enabling the camera device, which detects heartbeat and eye movement. You are required to position yourself in front of it.
According to a newly published Microsoft patent, the Kinect is able to tell exactly when users are viewing ads on their Xbox. It does this through tracking eye movement. Users who consistently view ads will be given awards.
The Xbox is also required to connect to the Internet at least once every 24 hours. For privacy advocates like me, this is very worrisome. Microsoft will likely use Xbox to get specific data about their users, particularly utilizing the Kinect. They will do this through the required online connect each 24 hours that users cannot avoid.
Even more sketchy is the fact that Microsoft has decline to answer questions about specifics of their privacy policies.
Sounds fishy to me. The Kinect won’t be entering my household!
