Stackable Cube Homes the Answer to Beijing’s Housing Problems?
Looking for a hot new pad? Check out these incredible cuboid ‘module style’ houses designed by China’s liu lubin studio.
The idea behind the design is to enable them to be stacked freely on top of each other, like building blocks.
This example has been installed in Beijing
Park. It’s been created from three cubes, one for the bedroom, one for
the toilet, and one for a workspace. Once the modules have been fitted
together, it creates a stair shape that you can climb up to hang out on
the roof.
While it does look pretty cool, we can see
some definite downsides, the biggest being that you have to head outside
to access each room. Seems kind of a pain if you have to get up in the
night to visit the bathroom. But for anyone with a big enough garden it
would be perfect as a novelty sun-house.
I won’t be moving out of my house into one
of these just yet, but with a few more design improvements these could
be all the rage in a few years time, especially in space-strapped places
such as Japan and China’s big cities.
