One Of The Most Important Scientists In The World: “Most Cancer Research Is Largely A Fraud”

by .   http://www.collective-evolution.com/2015/05/11/one-of-the-most-important-scientists-in-the-world-most-cancer-research-is-largely-a-fraud/pauling
“Everyone should know that most cancer research is largely a fraud, and that the major cancer research organisations are derelict in their duties to the people who support them.” (source)
The above quote comes from Linus Pauling, Ph.D, and two time Nobel Prize winner in chemistry (1901-1994). He is considered one of the most important scientists in history. He is one of the founders of quantum chemistry and molecular biology, who was also a well known peace activist. He was invited to be in charge of the Chemistry division of the Manhattan Project, but refused. He has also done a lot of work on military applications, and has pretty much done and seen it all when it comes to the world of science. A quick Google search will suffice if you’d like to learn more about him.
This man has been around the block, and obviously knows a thing or two about this subject. And he’s not the only expert from around the world expressing similar beliefs and voicing his opinion.
Here is another great example of a hard hitting quote when it comes to scientific fraud and manipulation. It comes from Dr. Marcia Angell, a physician and long time Editor in Chief of the New England Medical Journal (NEMJ), which is considered to be one of the most prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals in the world. I apologize if you have seen it before in my articles, but it is quite the statement.
“It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of the New England Journal of Medicine”  (source)
The list goes on and on. Dr. John Bailer, who spent 20 years on the staff of the National Cancer Institute and is also a former editor of its journal, publicly stated in a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science that:
“My overall assessment is that the national cancer program must be judged a qualified failure. Our whole cancer research in the past 20 years has been a total failure.” (source)
He also alluded to the fact that cancer treatment, in general, has been a complete failure.
Another interesting point is the fact that most of the money donated to cancer research is spent on animal research, which has been considered completely useless by many. For example, in 1981 Dr. Irwin Bross, the former director of the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Research Institute (largest cancer research institute in the world), said that:
“The uselessness of most of the animal model studies is less well known. For example, the discovery of chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of human cancer is widely-heralded as a triumph due to use of animal model systems. However, here again, these exaggerated claims are coming from or are endorsed by the same people who get the federal dollars for animal research. There is little, if any, factual evidence that would support these claims. Practically all of the chemotherapeutic agents which are of value in the treatment of human cancer were found in a clinical context rather than in animal studies.” (source)
Today, treating illness and disease has a corporate side. It is an enormously profitable industry, but only when geared towards treatment, not preventative measures or cures, and that’s an important point to consider.
Another quote that relates to my point above was made by Dr. Dean Burk, an American biochemist and a senior chemist for the National Cancer Institute. His paper, “The Determination of Enzyme Dissociation Constants (source),” published in the Journal of the American Chemical Society in 1934, is one of the most frequently cited papers in the history of biochemistry.
“When you have power you don’t have to tell the truth. That’s a rule that’s been working in this world for generations. And there are a great many people who don’t tell the truth when they are in power in administrative positions.” (source)
He also stated that:
“Fluoride causes more human cancer deaths than any other chemical. It is some of the most conclusive scientific and biological evidence that I have come across in my 50 years in the field of cancer research.” (source)
In the April 15th, 2015 edition of Lancet, the UK’s leading medical journal, editor in chief Richard Horton stated:
“The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Science has taken a turn toward darkness.” (source)
n 2005 Dr. John P.A. Ioannidis, currently a professor in disease prevention at Stanford University, published the most widely accessed article in the history of the Public Library of Science (PLoS) entitled Why Most Published Research Findings Are False. In the report, he stated:
“There is increasing concern that most current published research findings are false.”
In 2009, the University of Michigan’s comprehensive cancer center published an analysis that revealed popular cancer studies are false, and that there were fabricated results arising due to conflicts of interest. They suggested that the fabricated results were a result of what would work best for drug companies. After all, a large portion of cancer research is funded directly by them. You can read more about that story here.
There is so much information out there, and so much of it is coming from people who have been directly involved in these proceedings. There is really no shortage of credible sources willing to state that we live in a world of scientific fraud and manipulation.
All of this can be attributed to the “corporatocracy” we live in today, where giant corporations owned by a select group of “elite” people have basically taken control over the planet and all of its resources.
This is precisely why so many people are flocking towards alternative treatment, as well as focusing on cancer prevention. Much of what we surround ourselves with on a daily basis has been linked to cancer. Everything from pesticides, GMOs, multiple cosmetic products, certain “foods,” smoking, and much much more. This is something that is never really emphasized, we always seem to just assume that donating money to charities will make the problem go away, despite the fact that their business practices are highly questionable.
That being said, so many people have had success with alternative treatments like cannabis oil – combined with a raw diet or even incorporated into their chemotherapy regimen – that we should not feel as though there is no hope for the future.
The official stance on cannabis is a great example of the very practice of misinformation that I’m talking about. Its anti-tumoral properties have been demonstrated for decades, yet no clinical trials are taking place.
I am going to leave you with this video, as I have done in previous articles. It provides a little food for thought. Ignorance is not the answer, although this information can be scary to consider, it’s nothing to turn a blind eye towards.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aWRzikJ3iso

Right Beneath Your Feet: The Hidden Reality of Deep Underground Military Bases

by
dumbThe U.S. Government alone classifies over 500 million pages of documents each year. As far as transparency goes, there is none. How can we know anything about what is happening on our planet if so much information is hidden from the public domain? By now, the classified world has moved far beyond the reach of the public, and far beyond in its power and capabilities with regards to technology, scientific and cosmological knowledge and more.(1).
“According to our best estimates, more than half of all U.S. government records are classified. For an archivist seeking to preserve and understand our history, that means most of our history is kept secret from us, think about that for a moment ” – Richard Dolan (4)
The United States has a history of government agencies existing in secret. The National Security Agency (NSA) was founded in 1952, its existence was hidden until the mid 1960’s. Even more secretive is the National Reconnaissance Office, which was founded in 1960 but remained completely concealed for 30 years.
Recent leaks from Edward Snowden, a former intelligence contractor, have shed light on the black budget world. This is a world full of Special Access Programs (SAP) that garnishes trillions of dollars every year to conduct operations the general public knows nothing about(2). These programs do not exist publicly, but they do indeed exist. They are better known as ‘deep black programs.’ A 1997 US Senate report described them as “so sensitive that they are exempt from standard reporting requirements to the Congress (3)(1)”. One aspect of these ‘deep black programs’ is the development of deep underground military bases, and they can go up to several miles underneath the surface.
There are also known underground facilities in existence. Take for example, the Swedish underground military facility at  Musko. It’s a large naval base built underneath a mountain. The hospital alone within this facility holds over 1,000 beds. Musko engineers blasted out 1,500, 000 cubic meters of stone in order to build it (4)(5).
The military utility for underground construction is obvious. I recall years ago studying the matter in the context of American Cold War military strategy. during the 1950’s, motivated by a fear of Soviet missiles striking American installations and cities, military planners recognized the value of secure facilities deep underground (1) – Richard Dolan
In 1987 Deputy Director of Engineering and Construction for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lloyd A. Duscha, gave a speech at an engineering conference entitled “Underground Facilities for Defense – Experience and Lessons.” In the first paragraph of his speech he states the following:
After World War II, political and economic factors changed the underground construction picture and caused a renewed interest to “think underground.” As a result of this interest, the Corps of Engineers became involved in the design and construction of some very complex and interesting military projects. Although the conference program indicates the topic to be “Underground Facilities for Defense – Experience and Lessons,” I must deviate a little because several of the most interesting facilities that have been designed and constructed by the Corps are classified. (4)(6)
He then went into a discussion of the Corps’ involvement in the 1960’s in the construction of the large and elaborate NORAD base buried deep beneath Cheyenne Mountain, in Colorado. This is just a public statement, but you will not find a more significant public admission of secret, underground bases than this one. People speaking is not the only evidence available, there are actual documents obtained by researchers through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) that shed more light on the subject, and clearly outline plans for the contraction of underground facilities(4).
There are documents available which expose a deep underground command center that was to be built far below area’s such as Washington, D.C. and China Lake, California during the Cold War. Documents  available show that in 1964 the military was considering building a huge underground cavity 4,000 feet deep beneath China Lake (4). It’s well known that the United States and the Soviet Union created a vast infrastructure to support a complex of offensive and defensive weapons during the Cold War. This infrastructure included sites and facilities for developing, testing, storing and manufacturing weapons. There was also a host of communication and command centers(7).
The worlds most prominent researcher on Underground Military Facilities (in my opinion) Richard Sauder, Ph.D, told of an interesting story in his book Hidden In Plain Site (4) that I’d like to share with you.
“As it happens, after giving a public talk a couple of years ago, I was approached by a man who had been a uniformed member of the United States Navy. We chatted for a while and when he mentioned that he had spent some time at China Lake my ears perked up. I asked him if there was an underground facility at China Lake. He said that indeed there is, and that it is impressively large and deep. I asked him if he had ever been in it, and he said that he had, though not to the deepest levels. I asked him how deep the deepest part extended. He looked at me soberly and said very quietly, “It goes one mile deep.” I then asked him what the underground base contains. He replied, “Weapons.” I responded, “What sort of weaponry?” And he answered without pausing, “Weapons more powerful than nuclear weapons.” (4)

Deep Underground Command Center (DUCC)

The very first TOP SECRET memo on the subject was issued by Robert McNamara, on November 7th 1963 from the office of the Secretary of Defense. This took place right before the Kennedy murder (4).
There is a very grave danger that an announced need for increased secrecy will be seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. That I do not intend to permit, to the extent that it is in my control. We are opposed around the world by a system which has ocnscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations. Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed (7).
In this memo McNamara discusses the topic of the National Underground Command Center. The memo was addressed to McGeorge Bundy, Kermit Gordon and Dr. Jerome Wiesner. Bundy was the special assistant for National Security Affairs of President Kennedy. Gordon was the Director of the Bureau of the Budget and Wiesner was Kennedy’s science adviser. McNamara stated that they would meet sometime during the end of November, unfortunately Kennedy was dead by then.
A Second memo was issued on the same day concerning a proposed Deep Underground National Command Center that would be approximately 3,500 feet underground Washington. (4) The memo also mentioned elevator shafts below the State Department and White House that would descend to 3,500 feet with high speed, horizontal tunnel transport to the main facility. Remember we are talking about the 1960’s, what type of technology would be available for them to complete a project like this?
The reality of Deep Underground Military Bases is extremely fascinating. There is an enormous amount of evidence that proves their existence. Secret military bases used to be labelled in the conspiracy theory category. Not long ago, the Department of Defense officially declassified the existence of Area 51. (8)
There are hundreds of military bases, and underground military bases spread all over the world. Dr Richard Sauder documents this phenomenon well in Hidden In Plain Sight, among his other works. What I’ve provided above is not even the tip of the ice berg. In his book he goes on to illustrate the technology behind such developments, under ocean bases, and more. This is a fascinating topic to explore, and the next question to ask is what goes on in underground military facilities?
We know that the military operates at these defense installations, and it’s safe to assume that a number of classified projects go in within them. One that seems to be a common occurrence that’s related to Deep Underground Military Facilities are UFOs and extraterrestrials.
Best selling British author and researcher, Timothy Good, has written several books dealing with the question of possible extraterrestrial interaction with Earth. Another one that comes to mind is historian and UFO researcher Richard Dolan. Both have hinted to having been privy to some very interesting information in some of their books.
In After Disclsoure, Dolan shares an experience he had with a politician who was deep underground in a military base.. He was briefed on the extraterrestrial reality and said that ET’s and UFOs are just the tip of the ice berg when it comes to information that’s concealed from the public.(1)
Timothy Good has been privy to information from a variety of sources, including private ones that discuss a variety of locations around the world for alleged undersea and underground extraterrestrial bases. Abductees and contactees constantly refer to deep underground installations within the Planet. Could the extraterrestrial phenomenon be directly related to Deep Underground Military Facilities?
I’ve had two personal encounters with Canadian Military Personnel. One of them was a Coast Guard veteran, he personally told me that if I would like to know about extraterrestrials, “come work for us and you can ask them yourself.” This is something I’ll remember for my entire life. The second one was bizarre, I encountered a senior Canadian Air Force officer, had a short conversation with him and brought up UFOs. He instantly turned around and started walking away from me. About an hour later, in a completely different location, he walked right by me and didn’t even look at me, accompanied by two men in suits.
Below is a video of Phil Schneider. Much of what he says with regards to methods of underground base development correlates with the research I’ve done. He was murdered shortly after giving a few lectures as he did here below.
I just wanted to get across that Deep Underground Military Facilities are not a conspiracy. What happens beneath our feet is garnishing trillions of dollars from the black budget for special projects that the majority of the human race knows nothing about.

Alabama Makes Photo IDs Mandatory for Voting, Then Shutters DMV Offices in Black Counties   ~ hehe doesn't  look like ...nut~in's changed  ...

The ‘decision to cut out ID services to almost all counties with a majority black population is discriminatory and wrong,’ says ACLU of Alabama.
Some observers say that Alabama’s move to close dozens of drivers license offices is a discriminatory move that could trigger a civil rights probe.
Here’s why: in 2011 lawmakers approved a voter ID law requiring a government-issued ID to vote, and the 31 offices the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency set for closing—which the agency said was due to the $11 million cut in the new General Fund appropriation—will take a disproportionate hit on counties that are majority African-American.
Columnist John Archibald writes that “Alabama just took a giant step backward.”
“Every single county in which blacks make up more than 75 percent of registered voters will see their driver license office closed,” writes columnist John Archibald. (Photo: Denise Cross Photography/flickr/cc)
“Every single county in which blacks make up more than 75 percent of registered voters will see their driver license office closed. Every one,” he continues, writing that the state “might as well just send an invitation to the Justice Department.”
“It’s not just a civil rights violation,” Archibald writes. “It is not just a public relations nightmare. It is not just an invitation for worldwide scorn and an alarm bell to the Justice Department. It is an affront to the very notion of justice in a nation where one man one vote is as precious as oxygen. It is a slap in the face to all who believe the stuff we teach the kids about how all are created equal.”
Columnist Kyle Whitmire makes similar charges, writing:
Depending on which counties you count as being in Alabama’s Black Belt, either twelve or fifteen Black Belt counties soon won’t have a place to get a driver’s license.
Counties where some of the state’s poorest live.
Counties that are majority African-American.
[...] When the state passed Voter ID, Republican lawmakers argued that it was supposed to prevent voter fraud. Democrats said the law was written to disenfranchise black voters and suppress the voice of the poor.
Maybe, maybe not.
But put these two things together — Voter ID and 29 counties without a place where you can get one — and Voter ID becomes what the Democrats always said it was.
A civil rights lawsuit isn’t a probability. It’s a certainty.
On its Facebook page, the ACLU of Alabama writes that the “decision to cut out ID services to almost all counties with a majority black population is discriminatory and wrong.”
“Before the Supreme Court struck down key provisions in the Voting Rights Act last year, something like this would have had to be reviewed by the Department of Justice. This is why we need to stand together and show our lawmakers that we need an update to the Voting Rights Act, and we need it now,” the organization continued.
In its Health of State Democracies assessment issued in July, which includes voting equality among the criteria, the Center for American Progress Action Fund ranked Alabama dead last, giving the state an “F” for how it fared on accessibility of the ballot.

The Bankruptcy Of The Planet Accelerates – 24 Nations Are Currently Facing A Debt Crisis     ~ & the har~vesting of the Planet ...goes on ?

Dominoes-Public-Domain-460x349
There has been so much attention on Greece in recent weeks, but the truth is that Greece represents only a very tiny fraction of an unprecedented global debt bomb which threatens to explode at any moment.  As you are about to see, there are 24 nations that are currently facing a full-blown debt crisis, and there are 14 more that are rapidly heading toward one.  Right now, the debt to GDP ratio for the entire planet is up to an all-time record high of 286 percent, and globally there is approximately 200 TRILLION dollars of debt on the books.  That breaks down to about $28,000 of debt for every man, woman and child on the entire planet.  And since close to half of the population of the world lives on less than 10 dollars a day, there is no way that all of this debt can ever be repaid.  The only “solution” under our current system is to kick the can down the road for as long as we can until this colossal debt pyramid finally collapses in upon itself.
As we are seeing in Greece, you can eventually accumulate so much debt that there is literally no way out.  The other European nations are attempting to find a way to give Greece a third bailout, but that is like paying one credit card with another credit card because virtually everyone in Europe is absolutely drowning in debt.
Even if some “permanent solution” could be crafted for Greece, that would only solve a very small fraction of the overall problem that we are facing.  The nations of the world have never been in this much debt before, and it gets worse with each passing day.
According to a new report from the Jubilee Debt Campaign, there are currently 24 countries in the world that are facing a full-blown debt crisis
■ Armenia
■ Belize
■ Costa Rica
■ Croatia
■ Cyprus
■ Dominican Republic
■ El Salvador
■ The Gambia
■ Greece
■ Grenada
■ Ireland
■ Jamaica
■ Lebanon
■ Macedonia
■ Marshall Islands
■ Montenegro
■ Portugal
■ Spain
■ Sri Lanka
■ St Vincent and the Grenadines
■ Tunisia
■ Ukraine
■ Sudan
■ Zimbabwe
And there are another 14 nations that are right on the verge of one…
■ Bhutan
■ Cape Verde
■ Dominica
■ Ethiopia
■ Ghana
■ Laos
■ Mauritania
■ Mongolia
■ Mozambique
■ Samoa
■ Sao Tome e Principe
■ Senegal
■ Tanzania
■ Uganda
So what should be done about this?
Should we have the “wealthy” countries bail all of them out?
Well, the truth is that the “wealthy” countries are some of the biggest debt offenders of all.  Just consider the United States.  Our national debt has more than doubled since 2007, and at this point it has gotten so large that it is mathematically impossible to pay it off.
Europe is in similar shape.  Members of the eurozone are trying to cobble together a “bailout package” for Greece, but the truth is that most of them will soon need bailouts too
All of those countries will come knocking asking for help at some point. The fact is that their Debt to GDP levels have soared since the EU nearly collapsed in 2012.
Spain’s Debt to GDP has risen from 69% to 98%. Italy’s Debt to GDP has risen from 116% to 132%. France’s has risen from 85% to 95%.
In addition to Spain, Italy and France, let us not forget Belgium (106 percent debt to GDP), Ireland (109 debt to GDP) and Portugal (130 debt to GDP).
Once all of these dominoes start falling, the consequences for our massively overleveraged global financial system will be absolutely catastrophic
Spain has over $1.0 trillion in debt outstanding… and Italy has €2.6 trillion. These bonds are backstopping tens of trillions of Euros’ worth of derivatives trades. A haircut or debt forgiveness for them would trigger systemic failure in Europe.
EU banks as a whole are leveraged at 26-to-1. At these leverage levels, even a 4% drop in asset prices wipes out ALL of your capitalAnd any haircut of Greek, Spanish, Italian and French debt would be a lot more than 4%.
Things in Asia look quite ominous as well.
According to Bloomberg, debt levels in China have risen to levels never recorded before…
While China’s economic expansion beat analysts’ forecasts in the second quarter, the country’s debt levels increased at an even faster pace.
Outstanding loans for companies and households stood at a record207 percent of gross domestic product at the end of June, up from125 percent in 2008, data compiled by Bloomberg show.
And remember, that doesn’t even include government debt.  When you throw all forms of debt into the mix, the overall debt to GDP number for China is rapidly approaching 300 percent.
In Japan, things are even worse.  The government debt to GDP ratio in Japan is now up to an astounding 230 percent.  That number has gotten so high that it is hard to believe that it could possibly be true.  At some point an implosion is coming in Japan which is going to shock the world.
Of course the same thing could be said about the entire planet.  Yes, national governments and central banks have been attempting to kick the can down the road for as long as possible, but everyone knows that this is not going to end well.
And when things do really start falling apart, it will be unlike anything that we have ever seen before.  Just consider what Egon von Greyerz recently told King World News
Eric, there are now more problem areas in the world, rather than stable situations. No major nation in the West can repay its debts. The same is true for Japan and most of the emerging markets. Europe is a failed experiment for socialism and deficit spending. China is a massive bubble, in terms of its stock markets, property markets and shadow banking system. Japan is also a basket case and the U.S. is the most indebted country in the world and has lived above its means for over 50 years.
So we will see twin $200 trillion debt and $1.5 quadrillion derivatives implosions. That will lead to the most historic wealth destruction ever in global stock, with bond and property markets declining at least 75 – 95 percent. World trade will also contract dramatically and we will see massive hardship across the globe.

2001: An Alchemical Spatial Odyssey

Hyped up super 70s poster.
Hyped up super 70s poster.
By: Jay Dyer Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, based on Arthur C. Clarke’s concurrently-written science fiction novel, was a visual and technical accomplishment, unparalleled at the time of its making. Not only were the technical advances monumental, it was also a film that was uniquely philosophical.  Prior to 2001, most science fiction had been relatively cartoonish, with little attention to esoteric and alchemical themes, aside from scant instances. And that is precisely what 2001 is – an alchemical slash philosophical presentation of the supposed evolutionary ascent of man from primal, animalistic ape into reborn Starchild, an initiatory process that purports to unfold through aeons of brute, meaningless time, culminating in a series of revelations associated with stellar alignments that “awaken” a new stage in the process.  Along the way, Kubrick includes a host of ideas and themes that I will exegete below.  Ultimately, my thesis is this: 2001 is about space, planar, pointed and linear, in a geometric sense, and the transcending of that limitation of form, into the infinite and beyond form.
In the opening sequences we witness a few crucial elements: the planetary alignment, the monkeys and the monolith.  The setting is a dry, dusty landscape of sparse vegetation and tribes of apes shown in confrontation over a watering hole.   The planetary alignment signifies to the viewer a new aeon is emerging for man, the so-called dawn of consciousness.  Primal and savage, the apes pre-signify Kubrick’s perspective on the totality of human history, centered around resource wars.  With the advent of the monolith, composed of a wholly other, angular and sleek form, it is completely out-of-place among the sprawl of vegetation and natural, geological formations that make up the apes’ environment.  Kubrick uses, as many now know from Weidner’s documentary, the technique of front-screen projection, which allowed for a highly realistic way to shoot these scenes in a convincing way, and the possibility that NASA and the CIA were interested in this technique for media deception in relation to the moon landing is not without evidence.
Yet the real focus of this sequence is not the apes or the brutal environment, but the monolith.  As the apes are thrown into a frenzy, the monolith stands stark and cold as something both extraterrestrial, yet inviting.  The largest ape lurches forward to touch the monolith, and as a result we see the development of what Kubrick and Clark appear to conceive of as “consciousness,” correlated with techne, but not merely techne, it is technology as an extension of space and power – warfare.  The bone the ape uses to bash the skull of the other ape suggests a radical “survival of the fittest” mythos in the pure Darwinian sense, revealing a radical version of process philosophy that finds commonality with Darwin, Haeckel, and Marx, and even suggests the dialectical determinism of the Eastern Bloc Marxists like Lenin, Mao and Trotsky, all of whom have explicit treatises on the metaphysical presupposition of Marxism, being perpetual flux.
Despite the common misconception that materialistic Marxism had no metaphysic, the truth is quite the contrary, the metaphysic of Marxism is the atomistic process philosophy of old, repackaged to present man as an animal, like Darwinism, that through either radical collectivism or radical Nietzschean-influenced individualism, will attain to the status of the famed “New Man.”  I am not saying Kubrick is certainly some committed Marxist, his films do consistently present class warfare, elitism and oligarchic deviance and control.
The Mon-key to the universe - big ass black space rocks!
The Mon-key to the universe – big ass black space rocks!
Kubrick seems to fully be on board with this version of naturalistic process philosophy.  Human consciousness is an evolutionary process that emerges from the deus ex machina, an apparently emergent god(s) incarnated in symbolic form in the monolith itself, the black, angular cube that appears to descend from the gods to initiate the new stage.  While the monolith is extraterrestrial, it does not appear to be other than the universe, but an aspect of it.  In fact, as a form of a cube, the monolith seems to embody space itself.  This is partly my unique thesis – that the point, line, extension, terminus of geometrical space, which then combines again to create another point, line, plane and terminus, is the basic geometric form that represents spatial relations.  In our level of reality, you”’ note that there are only 6 possible directions one can take at any point: up, down, left, right, backward and forward. These six directions are thus a geometrical box or cube, as explained by the Pythagoreans (and Platonic solids) long ago.  So the cube, and in particular the black cube from outer space, is space.  2001 is therefore about this dimension, in totality, that expresses itself primarily in two fundamental ontological realities – time and space.
The
The “cube” of space, with 6 directions.
Mention should be made here of Rob Ager and Jay Weidner’s theses, that the monolith is also a screen, the film screen itself.  I find both agreement and disagreement with Ager and Weidner, and as I argued in my Eyes Wide Shut analysis, the screen itself is being utilized as a kind of talisman through which the audience is intended to be taken on a ritual initiation process.  Thus, I agree with both the monolith is also a screen, and in fact, in the original screenplay, the monolith was planned to be a screen that would project images to the apes so they could learn warfare, etc, and move on to their next stage of monkey madness.  Though the TV monolith was dropped, the seeds of that idea are still present, as more than once in 2001 the viewer sees the monolith extend, grow and approach the viewer, ultimately encompassing the entirety of the screen. The monolith also suggests an obelisk or the Islamic Kaaba stone (a purported meteorite!), and on an esoteric level we can recall the masonic obelisk, a divine phallus, and connect it to the notion of the generative principle found in sex magick and the traditional indigenous conception of the personification of the natural reproductive forces of nature embodied in a phallic or vaginal symbol or totem.  This is key, as Kubrick will later link the monolith/obelisk directly to womb, semen and birth processes when we come to Bowman’s trippy space trip and Starchild.  The monolith is consciously “Luciferian,” prompting man to a Promethean new aeon each time it appears, and always connected to technological advance through the “sacrifice” of warfare.

“Hey baby, what’s your astrological monkey sign?” The monolith in planetary alignment.
I am reminded here of the paleo-technology idea in writers like Dr. Joseph P. Farrell, who posits a kind of “technology of the gods” possibly possessed by ancient man from which the myths of the “golden age” descend.  I have written elsewhere concerning the fact Homer’s Iliad does, in fact, present Achilles’ magical shield as a kind of TV screen with moving images that presents the entire history of the Greeks.   This connection is not tangential, as Homer also recorded the oral tradition of Odysseus, and it is Odysseus who will be the primary literary source for the film’s title and later protagonist in astronaut Bowman.  Bowman will be a new Odysseus, who traversed the underworld and back, as Weidner correctly notes, who will go on a journey like none other.  With Ager, his analysis leaves out many of the esoteric elements, while aptly expositing the more technical and cinematic features, and in Weidner, there is a lack of criticism of the process philosophy, simply adopting Kubrick’s “alchemical” presentation as if it were the next Shakespeare, and subject to no naysaying on the part of the incoherencies of the nonsensical philosophy presented as reality. At this juncture it is worth again highlighting the failures of Neo-Darwinian process philosophy I mentioned above.  Darwinism, and its philosophical corollary in figures like Hegel, Marx, Whitehead and Teilhard de Chardin, are simply assumed as a given, with absolutely no critique allowed, and it should be noted that Hollywood presentations like 2001 were central in helping to solidify this mythology as an orthodox dogmatic given.  As I’ve related many times, the masses get their worldview from movies and music, not books and bureaucrats, and nothing helps to solidify a paradigm in the minds of men than a big blockbuster sci-fi flick.  And there is no question that 2001 unquestioningly and uncritically adopts the Darwinian mythos into its story narrative, but this is highly illustrative.  As I have argued for many years and in many articles, what you see in 2001 and figures like Teilhard de Chardin is the propagandist indoctrination of perpetual flux, process philosophy.  And on top of that process philosophy is a dash of alchemical and occult mystery wherein man will ultimately obtain apotheosis (which will be detailed below).
The uncapped pyramid showing the incomplete nature of the
The uncapped pyramid showing the incomplete nature of the “Great Work.”
There are some problems, though with perpetual flux philosophies, the most notable of which is the fundamental contradiction of such systems of philosophy being entirely anti-systemic.  In other words, to construct an abstract philosophical system composed of invariant conceptual entities (ideas), that one believes describes a world of perpetual flux, is a glaring contradiction.  Indeed, we may simply ask why the supposed invariant logical concepts and ideas that make up the descriptive system are not subject to constant flux?  If they are, the “process philosophy system” is immediately made nonsensical, and even if there were a justification for how this might be, the secondary problem is just as devastating – how do these abstracted concepts and ideas apply and “stick” to objects in the world that are perpetually in flux? The dualism cannot be reconciled, and is made incoherent before it can even get off the ground as a viable system.  I have highlighted this elsewhere as what I call the lack of a unifying, objective metaphysical principle and Dr. Philip Sherrard has critiqued this same notion in his essay on Teilhard.  This is interesting, as the mistake many make is to place the film in a scientistic scheme of rationalistic, natural process, when as we will see, the presentation is far more occult, where it is the planetary gods who are leading man through his planetary ascent to apotheosis through technology.
Cyclical wheels in space. Hamster man Bowman.
Cyclical wheels in space. Hamster man Bowman.
This is not to say the film is transhumanism, per se, though that notion is lurking below the celluloid surface.  As the monkey’s bone ascends into the air, Kubrick bypasses the totality of human history into the space age, where we see what he termed the “machine ballet” of floating space stations and ships docking onto great wheels that recall the Hindu “Wheel of Time” or Ezekiel’s “Living Wheel” Cherubim.  The cyclical ballet will evoke Nietzsche and his “eternal return” as later in the film we will hear “Thus Spake Zarathustra,” the work in which he presents this doctrine.  The doctrine of eternal return is the classical western perspective that history is cyclical and destined to repeat its events with fatalistic certainty. Is Kubrick saying that man has already experienced all he has experienced on the karmic wheel of time, and the destiny of the gods mandates that this process will culminate in a transmigration of souls resulting in a star child that is now the god of its own kosmos, which is merely a projection of its psyche?  I think this is a very possible reading of Starchild and the Genesis sequence at the close of the film, where the galaxies and God himself becomes, as I said, merely a deistic entity subject to the temporal alterations and flux the rest of the universe undergoes.  While this is likely, I will also present another possible reading below.
Upon the station, we learn about the mysterious loss of communications through a nod to Cold War dialectics that Kubrick extends into the future.  Curiously, the nation states are not eliminated, as the US and Russia still remain dominant players.  This suggests Kubrick did not conceive of the future as one where international communism would succeed in eliminating nation states, yet the geopolitical chess game of nations has now extended into the galactic, as the US base at Clavius on the moon has gone dark.  As a cover story, the US government has concocted the old favorite – a bio release pandemic, leading to “quarantine.”   In actuality, the lunar explorers have uncovered the monolith, this time submerged intentionally for the precise time that man would advance in his technology to reach the moon and discover the monolith’s “signal” transmission to Jupiter.

“Turn that damn thing down, it’s too loud. This Jupiter song sucks!”
As we watch the gradual, elegant movements of the ships in these scenes we are inclined to see a sexual component of extension, opening, entrance and release, indicating the evolutionary progress of man has ever been a dialectic of war and sex, and sex is a kind of savage war.  Man has seeded his offspring and now man will begin to extend his member into space, and seed the galaxy.  Techne is his extender for this endeavor once again, providing the ship and means by which he may project himself further in space.  As the ship ejects the pod carrying the astronauts and later Bowman, we are given a clear example of phallic insemination and watchful students of Kubrick will recall his frequent reference to “bodily fluids” in all his films. As the astronauts inspect the monolith, we hear a demonic cacophony of voices that harmonize to produce a kind of buzzing reminiscent of bees.  Man’s next stage in his evolutionary ascent is once again related to his discovery and touching the dark divine monolith, which emits a loud sound of high pitch frequency that disturbs and disables the explorers.  We are, I think, supposed to think the monolith is connected to higher spheres and the frequencies at which all reality “vibrates,” from matter to sounds to light.  The Moon monolith is vibrating a powerful frequency that is connected to Jupiter, intent on leading man as a kind of mile marker to his next location in the galaxy as the planets once again align in this sequence to reveal the uncapped pyramid.

“Where do you tear the floppy discs out of this POS?”
The uncapped pyramid in the alchemical sense signifies the lack of completion of the “Great Work,” the grand plan to transmute base matter in to “gold,” which signifies both the inner journey of the psyche in its ascent back to God or the soul to the One (in Neoplatonism), or the after-death journey of the gnostics through the planetary spheres.  In the macro sense, the Great Work is the transformation of the entire universe in to the Omega Point of Teilhard or Hegel, where the totality of reality becomes conscious of itself as conscious, and inanimate matter becomes merged into the psyche, realizing its own potentiality and god-in-process (from here, you can see how we are leading up to Starchild). Whereas with the apes, early supposed “man” was highly limited and caged, bound by the forces of nature, time and space.  In the space age, man has overcome gravity, floating about the universe, no longer hindered by the limitations of hunger, resources and mass.  This is the middle stage of man’s gradual ascent out of the cage – the box – of time and space, which is precisely what the monolith signifies in part (this is also why the monolith becomes a kind of coffin-box for Bowman in the climax).   For Kubrick, the “evolutionary ascent” is premised on the presupposition of perpetual “progress” through technology in overcoming the limitations of time, space and the body.  Hunger is gone, gravity is gone, and through the cryogenic sleep pods, time is beginning to be mastered.
HAL is watching...like Skynet
HAL is watching…like Skynet
At the “central nervous system” of this great phallic ship-body is HAL 9000, humanity’s latest, greatest artificial intelligence system.  HAL is positioned to accompany the astronauts on their secret mission, and it is here that Kubrick hints at transhumanism, for it is precisely through technology all along that man has been transcending his limitations.  HAL is spoken of and self-describes himself as “perfect,” free from human error.  This will be the colossal final challenge of man, to overcome man himself, embodies in his highest achievement to date – the superhuman A.I. system, whose “logic” may mean the deleting of man as man, the “error.” It is my contention here that the real secret space program of which NASA is a front is revealed in its fullness here by Kubrick, who the with NASA and intelligence agencies on this project.  The real secret space program is centered on advanced artificial intelligence as the vehicle by which man’s extension into the void might be accomplished, as A.I. will not be subject to the limitations of body, age, food, etc., humans necessitate.  A self-repairing A.I. can travel indefinitely and potentially perform its own repair, as long as it has some energy source.  Indeed, entire journeys and missions could be conceived of as not even needing human travelers, thus reducing the danger of loss of life with the benefit of obtaining all the same data.  Lecturing on the post-World War II buildup of the secret space program, Dr. Farrell explains the intricate construction of the elaborate satellite newtork and, in my estimation, what would come to be the Skynet satellite grid being constructed to surveil the planet under an Internet of Things SmartGrid.
Kubrick correctly foresaw this potential showdown between man and machine and masterfully presents this aspect of the narrative as a race to the death. we are not in the era when artificial intelligence can begin to surpass the human intellect in some tasks (nothing near most as the brain is the universe’s greatest super computer), and while it is in no way “conscious” or “self-aware” (that is impossible), it may be programmed to perfectly mimic, and down the road possibly programmed to kill. This is the very thesis Kubrick lays out and in the epic contest between Bowman and HAL, human history hangs on a game of wits, with HAL losing.  It should be noted that Kubrick is overall positive in his assessment and is at least not anti-human, as we might expect from the establishment propaganda.   Man does not lose the confrontation with his highest weapon, his own mind mirrored in a machine, but in fact overcomes it, or specifically Bowman does.

In fact, Arthur C. Clarke was reported to have said, “It may be that our role on this planet is not to worship God, but to create him,” as he wrote at length about in his story The Final Query.  As the co-screenplay writer, Clarke allowed significant changes to the script by Kubrick as noted above with the TV screen monolith.  Another significant change is the ending, wherein Starchild uses the satellite systems above earth to nuke the planet, thus insinuating the accusation of HAL were correct, that man is the “error.”  Mankind must thus be sacrificed and “nuked” to allow for the apotheosis of the elite.  Commenting on the evolutionary process and his conception of theology, Kubrick stated in unison with Clarke:
“I will say that the God concept is at the heart of 2001 but not any traditional, anthropomorphic image of God. I don’t believe in any of Earth’s monotheistic religions, but I do believe that one can construct an intriguing scientific definition of God, once you accept the fact that there are approximately 100 billion stars in our galaxy alone, that each star is a life-giving sun and that there are approximately 100 billion galaxies in just the visible universe. Given a planet in a stable orbit, not too hot and not too cold, and given a few billion years of chance chemical reactions created by the interaction of a sun’s energy on the planet’s chemicals, it’s fairly certain that life in one form or another will eventually emerge.
It’s reasonable to assume that there must be, in fact, countless billions of such planets where biological life has arisen, and the odds of some proportion of such life developing intelligence are high. Now, the sun is by no means an old star, and its planets are mere children in cosmic age, so it seems likely that there are billions of planets in the universe not only where intelligent life is on a lower scale than man but other billions where it is approximately equal and others still where it is hundreds of thousands of millions of years in advance of us. When you think of the giant technological strides that man has made in a few millennia—less than a microsecond in the chronology of the universe—can you imagine the evolutionary development that much older life forms have taken? They may have progressed from biological species, which are fragile shells for the mind at best, into immortal machine entities—and then, over innumerable eons, they could emerge from the chrysalis of matter transformed into beings of pure energy and spirit. Their potentialities would be limitless and their intelligence ungraspable by humans.” (source)
Like Richard Dawkins and his cult, the classical notions of God are conceived of as silly, but E.T. and Mork are rational, even though the process philosophy that undergirds the entire presupposition is contradictory and allows for no possibility of a coherent metaphysic, the flame of “alien” gospel burns strong in the superior intellects of the Dawkinites.  This is why Bowman transcends time and space as he reaches Jupiter, following the monolith’s location.  Conjunction of sun and moon is connected to conjunction of male and female in the so-called “vesica piscis,” wherein we are given more Masonico-alchemical transformation impelling the “logic” of the world-historical, Hegelian “cunning” toward godhood.  This is why once again, Bowman is shown in the pod ejecting from the phallic shaft of the ship towards the black void of the monolith.  The transcendence sequence hearkens to a kind of LSD trip, where Bowman’s mind is overloaded with “illumination,” signifying his reaching the eye or capstone light of the pyramid sequences we witnessed before in the planetary alignments.
HAL, it seems, was there to lock man into the limitations of time and space, and only by casting off this synthetic brain and reaching “beyond the inifinite” does Kubrick envision man’s transcending apotheosis occurring.  Now, Bowman begins to see expanding before him two flat planes emerging from a central vanishing point of perspective from which the pyramidal lines, planes, color spectrum and forms emerge.  In fact, it is almost as if Bowman is riding a computer information highway of information packets inside a motherboard – something audiences would see a few years later in Disney’s Tron.
The information grid of the fabric of reality
The information light grid of the fabric of reality
This Matrix-like structure to the abyss or void suggests both the platonic solids and Pythagorean mysteries, as well as the possibility of the matrix-like structure of our reality particle physicists like Werner Heisenberg have famously stated were “platonic formal” in nature.  Bowman, like Odysseus, has reached the furthest point away from home, and like the hero of Greek legend, will now traverse the abyss which bridges both the inner abyss and outer abyss through the unifying fabric of the psyche.  Bowman has entered the “Star Gate.” The crucial key other analyses have missed here are the 7 diamond cubes that appear after the sequence of formless colors and lines.  The fabric and “stuff” of reality, a formless void of prima materia, is shapeless and meaningless until given form, and once the seven “diamonds” appear, form is reintroduced to give order to the chaos.  Bowman becomes a kind new “Great Architect,” as he sees new galactic images of what appear to be sperm, eggs and wombs and galaxies forming.  The 7 diamonds are the planetary rulers, the gods of the planets (Jupiter, Saturn, etc.) who have been directing man through their course of ascent, through the heavens to Jupiter and beyond to the abyss, a notion familiar to some occult, hermetic and shamanic practices of a particularly dangerous stage of initiation before the heights of illumination occur, a kind of dark night of the psyche.
Here, Bowman is being elevated to the celestial pantheon, as he sees himself appear in the bizarre, Louis XVI-style room. Keep in mind, as well, in Childhood’s End, the “aliens” of Clarke are viciously deceptive analogues for gods/demons who do not come in peace.  The imagery of Bowman’s transcending is thus clearly identified as a kind of cosmic sex magick, where Bowman himself is the seed of the coming new creation, the new Genesis and new world, where a new mankind will be made in his macrocosmic image.

7 planetary diamonds – cubes – representing the gods, giving form to inchoate prima materia.
Witnessing himself, as in a mirror (highlighting Platonism), Bowman sees a 3 stage process of himself that mirrors the 3 stage process of humanity in the film, from ape to space age to transcendence, matching up to young Bowman, aged Bowman eating dinner, and reposed Bowman dying in the bed.  Aged Bowman eating his dinner and breaking the glass signify the final obstacle and limitation to be overcome, that of death.  This is why, when Bowman arrives, he sees architecture and furniture related to body specifically – a sink, chairs, a bed, food, etc.  Bodily limitation is the final stage of deification and we can thus read the monolith itself as possibly an advanced alien A.I., as Bowman seems to be placed in a kind of lab cage for testing, as if the hotel is run by advanced A.I. gods toying with him.  If the aliens are advanced A.I., it would explain why the real mission of the Jupiter exploration was hidden and only triggered when HAL was shut down.
The eye is revealed as Bowman reaches the cap, his eye is
The eye is revealed as Bowman reaches the cap, his eye is “illuminated” in the Star Gate.
This is the thesis I presented in regard to the 2001 tribute film of Christopher Nolan, Insterstellar, where A.I. is actually who has been leading man all along and aiding in the process of salvation from disaster.   I am not saying this thesis is certain, I am just posing it as a possibility, as if the hotel room were the final state of exiting Plato’s cave.  I have not yet seen anyone propose this thesis, but that is exactly the kind of message Clarke presents in his later sequel, 3001.  God is an advanced A.I. that we created long ago, and then through its own self-advancing self-realization, created its own computer-generated world, and in that world are humans, and like Neo, Bowman breaks free of Plato’s cave to cheat death and rise to rebirth among the gods, and the process repeats in eternal return with a new Genesis.  If not, then Bowman simply evolves and “aliens” show him the way, and deify him.  Either way, it is a cyclical process of a time-bound, emergent deity arising from within the kosmos itself, and not an eternal deity who alone subsists outside time and space who creates ex nihilo.  We are reminded at this juncture of the promise of the serpent in the garden, since Kubrick is fond of the Genesis imagery, where apotheosis is promised through gnosis: 1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” -Genesis 3.

Cruise Into Darkness: The Bizarre Disappearance of Amy Bradley

1224708710_6206f3bc06_z

Caribbean cruises have an incredibly enduring popularity. When it comes to travelling in style and luxury, there is no comparison to the allure that cruises offer. Who wouldn’t want to spend their days meandering through azure blue waters, clear skies, and quaint, charming tropical islands while indulging in luxury aboard vast ships that offer the finest amenities and are more like floating cities than boats? Statistics seem to agree. In 2015, 14.91 million people went on cruises in North America alone, most of those in the Caribbean. With so many people flocking to enjoy tropical paradise aboard these luxurious cruise ships, one might expect that this is a safe, sunny, and opulent way to travel, but there is a dark underbelly that lies in direct contrast to the white sand beaches, palm trees, and blue skies. There seems to be a disturbing trend for people to suddenly go missing without a trace aboard cruises, most noticeably in the Caribbean, and it is not just an isolated few. Since 1995, hundreds of people have boarded cruise ships on their way to paradise and never returned, most often while at sea and seeming to vanish into thin air, leaving behind confusion, little evidence and few clues as to what happened to them. They are simply gone, and very few of these disappearances are ever solved, leaving nothing but unanswered questions and a dark pall over the cruise industry at large.
Perhaps one of the most well-known and well publicized mysterious Caribbean cruise ship disappearances is that of 23 year-old Amy Lynn Bradley, who disappeared without a trace aboard the Royal Caribbean International cruise ship Rhapsody of the Seas while it was on a trip from Puerto Rico to the island of Curaçao, located in the southern Caribbean Sea in the former Netherlands Antilles. Amy was a bright, outgoing young woman who had just finished college and was on a Caribbean cruise vacation with her mother, father and younger brother. Amy had joined the cruise rather reluctantly, as although she was a trained lifeguard and strong swimmer, she had always been afraid of the open ocean, but had been ultimately persuaded to go on the trip by her family. Even with these reservations, once aboard Amy quickly found herself enjoying the cruise, and on March 23, 1998, on the third night of their trip, as the ship was docked in Curaçao, she and her family attended a dinner party on the upper deck and she stayed with her brother partying after hours, not returning to their cabin until 3:40 AM. At 5:30 AM, after having initially fallen asleep on her room’s balcony, Amy woke up, changed clothes and stepped out with her cigarettes and a lighter, obviously planning to return shortly because she did not put on shoes. Her family would never see her again.

When Amy failed to return to the cabin, her understandably worried family urged the ship to page her over the ships speaker system, but they refused on the grounds that it was too early in the morning to use the loudspeakers. The crew also refused the family’s pleas to back the ship away from the dock or to secure the gangways to prevent any potential kidnapper from whisking Amy away. It was not until around 8 AM that the page was finally carried out, but by that time most of the passengers had already disembarked for the day. Since Amy had still not returned to her cabin, the captain ordered a thorough search of the ship, scouring all 10 decks and 999 rooms of the massive ship in search of the missing young woman, but there was no sign of her. It was as if she had just vanished into thin air. Even then, the Captain of the cruise would not post pictures of Amy or inform the ship’s passengers of her disappearance, as he felt the news would upset the other guests. All in all, the cruise line was extremely uncooperative during the entire process and adamantly denied any responsibility for the family’s missing daughter.
Things got weirder the following day, when the FBI informed the family that cruise security had in fact only done a cursory search of the common areas and the restrooms, and not a thorough room by room search as had been claimed. The concerned family returned to the ship and was met with who was described as the ship’s “risk management agent,” who turned out to be in actuality the cruise line’s attorney representing the company in any legal action taken by Amy’s family against them. The FBI stepped in and engaged in several interviews with this attorney during which the family was not allowed to be present, yet the attorney attended all of the the family’s meetings with the FBI. This secrecy, lack of cooperation, dishonesty, and even hostility shown by the cruise line was extremely discouraging to Amy’s family, yet with the help of the FBI they soldiered on.
As the investigation continued, several witnesses came forward and some light was shed upon what had happened to Amy after leaving her room and possible clues to what had happened to her trickled in. One witness by the name of Crystal Roberts claimed to have seen Amy shortly after she left her cabin with a bass player named Alister Douglas and known as “Yellow,” who was in the band Blue Orchid, which had been playing at the dinner party the night before, and who other witnesses claimed had been flirting with her at the party. Video footage from the party even shows them slow dancing with each other and appearing to hold hands. There are a few things that would transpire during this encounter with Douglas on the morning of Amy’s disappearance that seem highly suspicious. It was claimed that after meeting up with him in the early morning hours, Amy was seen going off with Douglas to another area of the ship and the bass player returned 10 minutes later alone. Additionally, Amy’s brother Brad said that the bass player had come to him the morning of the initial search and said he felt bad about his sister, even though the family and security were the only ones who knew of the disappearance at the time. Nevertheless, authorities could find no evidence to directly link the bass player to the disappearance and he was not detained or considered a suspect.

There were also some other spooky little details that surfaced. It was later claimed by the family that at the party on March 23, the night before Amy’s disappearance, they had seen a group of individuals who were not passengers come aboard the ship with a dance troupe and proceed to mill about and observe the party while standing near the ship’s railing. The family had felt at the time that it was rather odd that these strangers should be allowed to just freely board the ship and watch a performance along with paying passengers. It was also claimed that three of the ship’s waiters had acted somewhat inappropriately towards Amy during the days leading up to the disappearance, calling her by her first name, flirting with her, and inviting her along to go to shore with them, and Amy herself had at one point mentioned that they gave her the creeps. Even more bizarrely, when Amy and her mother had gone to look at the pictures that had been taken during dinner at the party, which were meant to be posted on a board, all of the photos with Amy in them had been missing. When they asked the person in charge when they would be posted, although the clerk clearly remembered putting the pictures in with the others, he was unable to locate them and instead promised to have them redeveloped the following day. It is unclear just what connection these strange details have to the disappearance, if any, but they certainly give the case a rather creepy and menacing quality.
So what happened to Amy Bradley? Over the years the case has become steeped in mystery and intrigue, and spurred a wide variety of speculation and theories. It was suggested at the time that she may have run away or even committed suicide by jumping over the ship’s railing, but this did not make much sense because she was a happy, well-adjusted young woman who by all accounts loved her family dearly. She had also recently just adopted a bulldog which she was planning to go pick up after the cruise, as well as acquired a new job that she was to start upon her return. On top of all of this, Amy had taken along 15 rolls of film with her on the trip because she had intended to make a collage for her coffee table back home, and she had also written numerous postcards to friends expressing how much she was looking forward to getting back and telling them all about the cruise. A subsequent detailed FBI investigation into Amy’s background, including many interviews with family, friends, co-workers, and even classmates and professors from the college she had attended, further showed that she was not a good candidate for a runaway since she did not meet their “runaway profile” in any way and there was absolutely no indication of her having a desire to leave, nor was there any evidence at all that she would have wanted to harm herself or commit suicide.

It was also suggested that she may have gotten caught up in some kind of illegal activity or had witnessed a crime and was silenced, but Amy was a law abiding citizen with a clean criminal record and had spent most of her time aboard the cruise in the presence of family members. Murder is a possibility that has often been bandied about, but there is no evidence of this, no suspect, and no clear motive for why anyone would want to kill the friendly, cheerful vacationing young woman. The cruise ship company itself, Royal Caribbean International, officially stated that Amy had merely accidentally fallen over a railing and drowned, perhaps while drunk after the party, but not only is there no evidence of this at all, but sea conditions were calm, Amy was a lifeguard and a very proficient swimmer, and the ship was docked very close to land at the time of the disappearance, making it seem unlikely that she would drown. In addition, although there are many cases of cruise ship passengers going overboard, the majority of these were probably from recklessly climbing atop them or suicides. The railings of cruise ships are designed so that the sometimes thousands of passengers on board don’t go stumbling over them to their deaths, being typically at least 3.5 feet high and quite hard to accidentally fall over even when intoxicated.
Adding to the mystery of the case are the various rather unsettling alleged sightings of Amy that have popped up from time to time since her bizarre disappearance. In 1998, two Canadian tourists claimed to have seen Amy walking along a beach in Curaçao flanked by two men, and when the missing woman heard them speaking English she allegedly tried to approach them, after which the two men with her grabbed her and guided her into a nearby café. The couple was able to describe very distinctive tattoos that Amy was known to have, including a Tasmanian Devil spinning a basketball on her shoulder, a sun on her lower back, and a Gecko on her navel, in addition to a navel ring. These details, which the eyewitnesses could not have possibly otherwise known, have led many to believe that the sighting was authentic.
Amy was allegedly sighted yet again in 2005 in a department store in Bridgetown, Barbados under equally disturbing circumstances. On this occasion, eyewitness Judy Mawer reported that she had been in a restroom stall when she overheard some men come into the women’s room and apparently threaten a woman in another stall, shouting “a deal is coming through, you need to obey to not mess it up!” before leaving. After a few minutes, Mawer cautiously exited the stall and found a very distraught and panicked looking woman in her 30s hunched over the restroom sink, who told her that she was from Virginia and that her name was Amy. Moments later, the men returned and practically dragged the woman violently from the restroom. The terrified Mawer, not knowing what to do, fled the scene and reported her experience to the authorities. She would later provide the FBI with a description of the two men, which was made into a sketch and circulated to no avail. The men depicted in the sketches have never been found, nor has any further information on Amy’s potential whereabouts, and this would be the last report of anyone seeing her.

More ominous evidence comes in the form of online photos that were found in 2004 and 2005 on a prostitution website of a mostly naked woman in sexually suggestive poses, who highly resembled Amy and seemed to suggest that she had been sold into sexual slavery. Another witness report from 1999 further bolstered this possibility by claiming to have sighted the missing young woman at a brothel in Curaçao. In this sighting, an American sailor claimed that he had gone to a brothel in Curaçao and while he was there a woman had approached him and introduced herself as Amy Bradley, after which she had pleaded for him to help her. The sailor claimed that two men then came to rather forcefully escort the distressed looking woman upstairs, after which he decided it was best to be on his way. Embarrassed and fearing that he would get into trouble for visiting a brothel, the sailor, who had no idea of who the woman was at the time, would keep the story under wraps for a few months until he heard of the missing Amy Bradley and decided to come forward with his sighting, but by that time the brothel had burnt down in a fire under mysterious circumstances. This dark possibility that Amy had been entangled in the dark web of sexual slavery would perhaps not be too farfetched, as the Caribbean has become rather notorious for human trafficking, a fact further illustrated by a chilling, sobering statement from Steve Reeves, the editor of a cruise line trade publication, who said:
There’s rumor and legend surrounding slavery in the southern Caribbean. It’s not uncommon knowledge in the maritime community that young white women are considered to be very desirable to foreign procurers.
There have even been rumors that some unsavory elements within the cruise ship industry may make clandestine deals with these traffickers, pointing out candidates, giving information on potential targets, or even arranging for the criminals to board in exchange for large payments. This would certainly cast a rather menacing shadow on the details revolving around Amy’s interactions with the bass player Yellow, as well as the inappropriate invitations to go ashore made by the ship’s waiters and the strangers who had come aboard during the party the night before the disappearance. Whether the company had any hand in the disappearance or not, is this the answer to the riddle? Was Amy Bradley kidnapped, ripped away from her family and happy life to be subsequently sold into a life of sexual slavery? The mysterious, haunting photos and sightings to this effect seem to at least suggest so, but so far there is no concrete evidence to show that this is the case. However, this sinister, disturbing possibility is certainly there, and Amy’s own mother has further added to the theory, saying:
Amy would have been a trophy. Amy would have been someone that, I believe, could have been picked out and fingered to move off of that ship. She could have been held and hidden. She could have been possibly drugged and taken from that ship.

Despite intensive investigation, heavy publicity in the media including the shows America’s Most Wanted, Vanished, and Dr. Phil, as well as numerous news outlets and magazines, a $250,000 reward offered for any information leading to Amy’s safe return, as well as a $50,000 reward for information pinpointing her verifiable location, the case of the disappearance of Amy Lynn Bradley remains unsolved and there is shockingly little evidence and very few leads to go on. What happened to Amy Bradley? There are so many enigmas and questions still swirling about her case. Was she murdered or the victim of some crime syndicate? Did she run away from home or commit suicide? Did she just merely fall overboard and drown? Or was she sold into sexual slavery, and if so who was behind it? Also, why would such a prosperous cruise line as Royal Caribbean International lie about the extent of their search for the missing young woman and then proceed to offer so little cooperation, especially for such a high profile cruise company which earned 8.7 billion dollars in 2015 alone? Was the company just trying to wash their hands of the whole mess and its potential bad publicity, or were they perhaps even involved in some way and trying to cover their tracks or initiate a cover-up? At this point, the fact is no one really knows the answers to any of these questions, and in the absence of any further leads or evidence, it seems likely to remain that way for some time. The mystery of Amy Bradley’s disappearance remains largely just as impenetrable and baffling now as it was when she first vanished.
Sadly, although one of the most well-known and extensively covered, Amy’s case is not an isolated one, and she joins the ranks of hundreds of others who have vanished aboard cruise ships in the Caribbean, just as perplexing and often under circumstances that are just as mysterious and which also remain unsolved. Why are so many people disappearing aboard cruise ships in the Caribbean? What forces are at work here and is there any link between any of them, and indeed to the case of Amy Bradley? It is something to ponder the next time you find yourself on a cruise ship basking in the tropical sun and looking out across that inviting azure water, something to cast a shadow of uncertainty over the sun soaked paradise and make you wonder whether you could be next.
