California Police Regularly Execute Animals on Shooting Range as Their Euthanasia Policy

In Merced, California, officers are coming under heavy fire from citizens who recently learned that they routinely ‘euthanize’ wounded animals on their shooting range, rather than ensuring a peaceful death.

Some people are saying this is illegal, but the police are determined to continue this practice for some reason. Because of a decades old penal code, it is legal apparently for the police to shoot animals to death.
Many people are shocked and outraged that rather than taking a wounded animal to be possibly treated, kept alive, or killed humanely at a veterinary clinic, they are determined to shoot the animals, possibly for fun.
Of course they are quick to defend their brutal practices; according to Merced Police Chief Norm Andrade, the practice of transporting animals to the shooting range is “rare,” and the officers hate to do it.
Eric Sakach, a ‘law enforcement specialist’ with Humane Society of the United States, stated:
“The law does not permit the officer to move the animal to the shooting range to be put down,”
“If they find an injured animal that can be moved, they’re only allowed to transport the animal to a veterinarian and they make the determination.” [1]
Kim Herzog, an animal control officer in Merced, also said that the police do not like “dispatching,” injured animals, though revealed that one or two dogs each month are slaughtered with a gun.
Please share this article with as many people as possible, so we can draw more attention to this, and put the enforcement class of this corrupt government in check, so we can hold them accountable like we are supposed to do.
