MORE FOR THE TRANSHUMANIST SCRAPBOOK: TODAY, “DE-EXTINCTION,” TOMORROW, “RE-VIVIFCATION”? AND FULFILLMENTS

When Dr. Scott de Hart and I were writing Transhumanism: A Grimoire of Alchemical Agendas, we had long discussions on the implications of the the genetic technologies that we were seeing, along with nanotechnology and robotics. Our conclusions were, I suppose, illustrated by the subtitle: what we were seeing was an alchemical agenda, an ascent back up the esoteric ladder from animal, to vegetable, to mineral, and finally, to androgynous immortal man. There was, we thought, an implicit underlying long-term goal: the technological end-run around mortality in all its forms. It sounded crazy to us, and perhaps to those of you who read the book, it still does.
Well, now they are having conferences on which extinct animal species that they want to bring back:
Scientists Want to Bring Some Animals Back from Extinction
It does not take much imagination to see what the logical denouement of this trend will be, and it permits us to speculate. Suppose, for example, your “group” (Pick your favorite group: Christians, Jews, Muslims, Communists, Nazis, etc) has relics of its favorite prophets, leaders, or Messiahs, founders, and that among these are clear hints of DNA.
So why not “de-extinct” or “revivify” or “resurrect” Jesus, Mohammed, Moses, Stalin, Hitler? It would be Ira Levin’s Boys from Brazil scenario gone global, technologically tailored “fulfillments” of your favorite messianic prophecy… and with enough money, well, cloning and memory downloads and virtual immortality for the wealthy.
Of course, all of that would depend on a provable, or at least, arguably plausible provenance for said relics that they were indeed relics of the famous or infamous people that they claimed to be…
…and that, of course, would imply a golden opportunity for some high shenanigans and creativity, for what was lacking in the record could always be forged…
And you thought Holy Blood, Holy Grail and The DaVinci Code were radical…
