THE COMING FIGHT FOR HEIRLOOM SEEDS

Readers of this site are aware that I’ve been making a prediction regarding Mon(ster)santo, Duponzanto, and all the big agribusiness giants. As more and more studies are being done questioning the healthfulness and safety of their “patented seeds”, and as more and more farmers globally wake up and realize that it has been a mercantilist policy of the US bought-and-paid-for government to spread the seeds and rid the world of natural seeds, or “heirloom seeds” as they are now called, I have been arguing that there will be an inevitable, and growing, worldwide backlash against these companies and the US government. I have also argued that the BRICSA nations, which are attempting to form a trading bloc in opposition to what they perceive as an out-of-control unipolar Western world, led by the USA and its allies, will seize the opportunity to sell such heirloom seeds on a large scale.
Consider the perception management opportunities this would provide, for it would allow Russia, China, India, Brazil, and South Africa, to portray themselves as being on the side of the family farmer in opposition to the corrupt agribusiness corporations with their “bottom line” attitude to human life and “science.”
Well, it may be starting:
Via Campesina and the Fight for Seeds
Well, it comes as no surprise that Chief Injustice Roberts and the Supremes have once again ruled in favor of the Mon(ster)santo laws; the precedent is long established already in US Patent law, which is being urged on the rest of the world as an international legal standard. But as the article notes, there’s pushback, and it’s being organized in Indonesia this year.
This choice intrigues me, for Indonesia is a country to watch, and one cannot imagine it being in favor of the Mon(ster)santo products or the laws that inevitably come with them.  Rest assured, Moscow and Beijing, and probably New Delhi and Brasilia, will have a representative of their embassies quietly observing this event, and they should,  for the growing opposition to GMO seeds, and the inability of poor farmers to plant their heirloom seeds, or even to retain a portion of their GMO seeds – if they’re already unfortunate enough to have bought into the scam – for replanting, is a geopolitical opportunity of the first magnitude.
This is a story to watch folks, for I predict it’s only going to grow, as will, inevitably, the private mercenary backlash from out of control corporations.
As for Indonesia, it must walk carefully in a Pacific rim where it is carefully balanced between the USA-Western interests in the region, and that of China. But, in the long run, I will not be surprised if the BRICSA nations become the BRICSAI nations…
