The Missing Physicists
A Note on Speculative Terrain
The previous six posts in this series have operated on documented ground: FCC license records, the Goodwin Procter report, DOJ file releases, congressional testimony, investigative journalism with named sources, and primary documents. The claims made have been sourced and certified at the end of each post.
Post VII operates differently. The UAP-Epstein intersection is, as of this writing, the most speculative element of the Science Machine architecture. The individual components are real: David Grusch's congressional testimony is on the record. Eric Weinstein and Eric Davis's podcast discussion is available in full. The convergence claim Weinstein makes is his, stated publicly. But the direct evidentiary link between Epstein's patronage of the dispersed physics community and any classified retrieval program has not been established in the public record.
This post presents the argument that exists — clearly labeled where it moves from documented pattern to structural inference. The FSA methodology requires that speculation be named. Everything that follows is named accordingly.
Grusch and the Absent Physicists
In June 2023, David Grusch — a former intelligence officer who had worked on the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's UAP task force — testified before the House Oversight Subcommittee on National Security that the United States government has for decades operated a program to retrieve and reverse-engineer non-human craft and biological materials. He stated that he had identified approximately forty firsthand witnesses through his investigation.
Eric Davis, a physicist with approximately thirty years of access to classified government programs and direct involvement in UAP-related research, appeared on Eric Weinstein's American Alchemy podcast to discuss the implications of Grusch's testimony. Davis made an observation that Weinstein identified as structurally significant: of Grusch's approximately forty witnesses, the professional composition was engineers and material scientists — electrical engineers, aerospace engineers, thermodynamicists, materials specialists. Not one theoretical physicist. Not one applied physicist at the doctoral level.
If No Physicists in the Programs, Where Is the Physics?
Davis's observation — confirmed by a senior aerospace executive with two decades of firsthand program experience — presents a structural paradox. If the United States government has been in possession of materials or craft whose nature requires explanation at the physics level, and those programs have no theoretical physicists, one of three things must be true.
- Possibility One The programs do not exist, and Grusch's testimony is false or mistaken. This is the official position. It does not explain why a senior aerospace executive with twenty years of program access would confirm the absence of physicists rather than the absence of the program.
- Possibility Two The programs exist but the physics is beyond current theoretical understanding — meaning no physicist has been able to make progress, so none are employed. This would mean the materials are in custody but unexplained. The engineers are managing what the physicists cannot yet interpret.
- Possibility Three The physics is being done — but outside the official program structure, in a setting where institutional physicists have no access. This is the setting that the post-Cold War dispersal of Los Alamos and Sandia talent into private institutions created — and the setting that Epstein's patronage of exactly that population occupied.
Possibility Three is the Weinstein hypothesis. It is not established by evidence. It is established by the architecture of what exists: a classified program that deliberately excludes theoretical physicists, a dispersed population of exactly those physicists positioned in private institutions outside classification protocols, and a patron who inserted himself between those two populations beginning in 1993.
My guess is that you're going to find out that New Mexico is going to be the hub that connects atomic weapons, UFOs and Jeffrey Epstein, and they're all going to merge into one story about power that we don't understand.

The geographic and institutional convergence that Weinstein identifies is, at minimum, real as a pattern. Whether the pattern has the causal significance he suggests is a separate question — one the evidence cannot currently resolve.
Trinity Site: 111 miles from Zorro Ranch. Ground zero of the first nuclear detonation, July 16, 1945. The origin point of the weapons program that Los Alamos and Sandia were built to serve.
Los Alamos National Laboratory: ~50 miles from Zorro Ranch. Where American nuclear weapons are designed. Where Robert Maxwell installed backdoored PROMIS software in 1985. Where the post-Cold War dispersal of theoretical physicists originated.
Sandia National Laboratories: ~50 miles from Zorro Ranch. Non-nuclear weapons engineering. Kirtland Air Force Base. Where PROMIS was also installed. Where Epstein's FCC-licensed microwave system pointed.
Roswell: ~150 miles from Zorro Ranch. Site of the 1947 incident that is the founding event of American UAP consciousness. Whatever occurred at Roswell — and the declassified record is genuinely ambiguous — it occurred in the same geographic corridor as Zorro Ranch, the two labs, and Trinity Site.
Kirtland AFB: Adjacent to Sandia. Houses classified aerospace programs. Has been repeatedly identified in UAP-adjacent investigative reporting as a relevant facility. Is one of the primary classified construction sites of Bradbury Stamm — Epstein's contractor.
Santa Fe Institute: 23 miles from Zorro Ranch. Where dispersed Los Alamos and Sandia physicists gathered after Cold War funding contraction. Where Epstein donated at minimum $680,000 and cultivated Murray Gell-Mann.
The Convergence Argument — Stated at Its Full Strength
If you accept the following as true — and each element has evidentiary support at varying levels of confidence:
1. UAP retrieval programs exist and have been deliberately insulated from theoretical physicists (Grusch testimony; Davis confirmation).
2. The theoretical physics talent most relevant to such programs is concentrated in the post-Cold War dispersal community centered on the Santa Fe Institute and the New Mexico info mesa (documented dispersal pattern).
3. Epstein systematically cultivated exactly that population from exactly that geographic location beginning immediately after the Maxwell succession (documented patronage record).
4. Epstein operated communications infrastructure pointing at Sandia Crest — the relay hub above the laboratory most associated with classified aerospace engineering (FCC public record).
Then the question of what Epstein was doing with the access he purchased from the dispersed physics community becomes considerably more consequential than the science philanthropy framing suggests. He may have been functioning as an unofficial, private-sector interface between the theoretical physics community and programs that official channels were deliberately keeping those physicists away from. Whether this served a U.S. interest, an Israeli interest, or a third principal's interest is the question that cannot yet be answered.
What the Evidence Cannot Yet Prove
The series' commitment to the FSA methodology requires stating this plainly: the UAP-Epstein connection is currently an argument from proximity and pattern, not from documented operational relationship. No primary document establishes that Epstein was functioning as a physics intelligence conduit between the dispersed Los Alamos community and any classified retrieval program. No witness has placed Epstein in that role on the record.
What the evidence establishes is that the architecture for such a function existed — the geography, the patronage, the communications infrastructure, the scientific relationships, the operational impunity. Architecture is not operation. A building designed for a purpose is not proof the purpose was served.
The July 2026 Truth Commission report may change this. The Commission has subpoena power and has identified Zorro Ranch as a primary object of inquiry. Whatever physical evidence remains — after years of estate management and ongoing excavation by the Huffines family — will either extend the convergence argument or collapse it back to coincidence. This series will publish Post VIII when that report is available.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. The architecture is documented. The operation is inferred. The distinction matters — and we maintain it.
