Marine vet fired due to famous quote tattoo

"But I am pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you f--- with me, I’ll kill you all."
Despite the name, The Marine Corps Times (MCT) is not officially affiliated with the United States Marine Corps.
And due to such, the MCT is free to publish news free from government censors and restrictions.
Case in point - Former Marine Carl Newman of Kansas City, Missouri, was fired from his job as a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad.
The reason -- a quote from the straight-forward speaking Marine General James Mattis is tattooed on one of his arms.
The Offending Tatt...
During the 2003 Iraq War, then Major General Mattis commanded the storied First Marine Division.
As reported by the MCT, while meeting with Iraqi tribal leaders, the General heartfeltly but bluntly put them on notice:
"I come in peace.
I didn’t bring artillery.
But I am pleading with you, with tears in my eyes:
If you f--- with me, I’ll kill you all."
Illegally Canning A Legit Whistle-Blower?
Newman had the quote tattooed on his arm prior to signing on with Union Pacific after his hitch in the Corps.
As published:
"The complaint states that a fellow employee photographed his arm.
According to the complaint, Union Pacific Railroad’s policy is not to discipline people for offensive tattoos unless they are directed to cover the ink and fail to comply, and Newman was never asked to cover up his tattoo."
Reportedly, Newman claims that his employer is using the offending tattoo as an excuse to fire him as retribution for him contacting the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) hotline in regards to hazards along the railway tracks.
The Former Marine alleges he was initially discouraged from making formal complaints to the Union Pacific hotline.
As reported:
"Newman first filed a complaint with OSHA in September 2010.
Following an OSHA investigation in 2011, the Department of Labor found reasonable cause that Union Pacific Railroad was in violation of the Federal Railroad Safety Act, which protects employees who report violations of railroad safety."
Although it's been two years since his termination, "Newman is seeking a jury trial and compensation for loss of pay and benefits, incurred medical expenses, mental anguish, punitive damages and legal fees."
More On The General...
General Mattis, better known in the Corps as "The Warrior Monk," has openly and clearly stated his preference for barroom fisticuffs and the violence of combat.
As reported by The Washington Post:
"You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years, because they didn't wear a veil.
You know guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway.
So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot 'em."
But the self-admitted brawler backs up his tough talk with actions.
Besides being decorated for personal heroism in combat, the Christian Science Monitor has reported that during the Iraq War:
"Mattis would even sometimes go on missions with his troops, sharing the risks that he was asking them to take."
