Alarming Levels of Glyphosate Contamination Found in Popular American Foods

(Note from Erin: There is NO DOUBT that this story should be making the mainstream media rounds but it’s not. We have come a long way in our fight against Monsanto and in our fight for better food- but we aren’t done. Please, make sure to forward this story and plaster it all over your Facebook wall.)
Food Democracy Now! and The Detox Project announce that a recent study of glyphosate has found ALARMING LEVELS of the Contamination in Popular American Foods: Cheerios, Doritos, Oreos, Stacy’s Pita Chips, Ritz Crackers- just to name a few.
Check out these infographs below, but check below for full details too!
glyphosate-food2glyphosate-food1From the article:
“The results published in this report are from the first independent glyphosate residue testing of popular American food products performed using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), the regulatory recognized “gold standard” testing methods at an FDA registered laboratory.
These newest findings also come as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) postponed hearings last month, which were due to explore glyphosate’s link to cancer in humans. Last year, 17 leading global cancer experts from the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) sparked a firestorm when they classified glyphosate as a class 2A “probable human carcinogen”.
Due to concern over glyphosate’s safety, this testing project- which started in 2015- has found alarming levels (according to the latest independent peer-reviewed science) of glyphosate in:
  • General Mills’ Cheerios
  • Honey Nut Cheerios
  • Kellogg’s Corn Flakes
  • Raisin Bran
  • Frosted Flakes
  • PepsiCo’s Cool Ranch Doritos, Ritz Crackers, and Stacy’s Simply Naked Pita Chips
  • As well as many more famous products- all at levels which present a significant risk
It’s long past time for the EPA and White House to deal with what’s happening to our food. Monsanto MUST be stopped.
More from the article:
“With the widespread increase in glyphosate use over the past 20 years and the fact that independent peer-reviewed science has confirmed that exposure to glyphosate at levels as low as 0.05 ppb can alter gene function in the livers and kidneys of rats fed a diet of glyphosate for two years, the American public should be concerned about glyphosate residues on their food.
The latest independent peer-reviewed scientific evidence calls for a much lower allowable daily intake (ADI) to be set at 0.025 mg/ kg bodyweight per day or “12 times lower than the ADI” currently set in Europe and 70 times lower than the level currently allowed by the EPA in the U.S.”

Glyphosate has never been studied by regulators or the chemical industry at the levels Americans are being exposed to (under 3 mg/kg body weight/day) and that is simply unacceptable. So, in an effort to have EPA regulators take the issue of glyphosate residue more seriously, Food Democracy Now! has announced their petition to do just that. (Follow the link to sign or check it out.)
Also, each of the “food” companies whose products test positive for glyphosate contamination will get a copy of the report and a letter from Food Democracy Now! informing them of the exact levels found in their products. It will also request that they immediately reject the common practice of pre-harvest spraying of Roundup on important food crops in order to reduce unnecessary exposure to glyphosate.
And lastly, a piece of good news: This official report puts SERIOUS pressure on the billion dollar Bayer-Monsanto merger. They simply do not need new and reliable scientific findings on Monsanto’s glyphosate-based Roundup- but they are getting it. In fact, law firms around the country are already lining up plaintiffs for “mass tort” suits against Monsanto. Thank you, Lord! Now maybe farm workers, long exposed to the chemical, can get the compensation they deserve.
