A newly released police report details an investigation into claims Rudolf Hess was murdered by British agents
Claims that Nazi Rudolf Hess was allegedly murdered under orders from the British to stop him revealing wartime secrets have been revealed in a police report which has only just seen the light of day after 25 years.
According to the documents, a doctor who was treating the Nazi Party deputy leader supplied Scotland Yard with the names of two British agents who were suspected of the murder, but the force was advised to stop its investigations.
The report by Detective Chief Superintendent Howard Jones, which has now been released under the Freedom of Information Act, provides details on the inquiry into surgeon Hugh Thomas's claims.
It was written two years after Hess's death in 1987 after the force was called in following claims by Mr Thomas that the man sent to Spandau Prison in then-West Berlin was not Hess but an imposter sent by the Nazis in 1941.
Allied authorities said Hess hanged himself with an electrical cord in Spandau jail on August 17, 1987, at the age of 93.
But Mr Thomas said the real Hess was in fact killed by two British agents dressed as members of the U.S. forces amid speculation he was about to be released due to a veto by the Soviet Union, The Independent has reported.
The report cites how Mr Thomas 'confidentially imparted' the names of the two alleged suspects which he had received from a former member of the SAS.
Mr Jones wrote: '[Mr Thomas] had received information that two assassins had been ordered on behalf of the British Government to kill Hess in order that he should not be released and free to expose secrets concerning the plot to overthrow the Churchill government.'

Despite not finding 'much substance' to the murder allegations, Mr Jones ordered an investigation.
According to The Independent, the Crown Prosecution Service received a copy of the report in 1989.

Within six months the Director of Public Prosecutions at the time, Sir Allan Green, advised the investigation should not continue.

He eventually rose to become deputy Nazi party leader, and was captured in 1941 during a solo flight to Scotland on an apparently unauthorised peace mission.
He was later convicted in the Nuremberg trials after the Second World War ended.
At the Nuremberg trials after the war, Hess was found innocent of war crimes and crimes against humanity, but sentenced to life imprisonment for crimes against peace and conspiracy to commit crimes against peace.
His appearance in Britain in 1941 has been the subject of much debate over the years.
In March last year a declassified report revealed for the first time the stark scene in which Hess was said to have killed himself and his alleged suicide note.
But the report of the investigation into Hess's death, released last year under Freedom of Information, only deepened the mystery surrounding his final moments.
Although the official verdict by the Special Investigations Branch of the British Military Police is that Hess committed suicide and no others were involved, historians claimed that the images cast doubt on this version of events.

With The NSA, The GCHQ, The FRA Planting Crypto Backdoors In Infrastructure, They Are Now The Enemy Of All Mankind

n
Repression
The security services of the US, UK, and Sweden have been actively working to plant backdoors into most commercial cryptography software. While intended to use for wiretapping business secrets, medical journals and bank transactions, those backdoors are also there for any other adversary. This is effectively a declaration of war from the security services against all of humanity.
The news broke this morning that the NSA (US), the GCHQ (UK), and the FRA (Sweden) have been actively working to subvert the cryptography that makes our society tick, by planting backdoors in most if not all commercial cryptography software. This means that these agencies have deliberately made all of us vulnerable as we conduct our banking business, as we go to the hospital, and as we talk privately online. Our society depends on our ability to keep secrets, and the deliberate planting of backdoors, the deliberate subversion of our infrastructure, is nothing short of a declaration of war. Even according to U.S. Generals.
“A cyber attack on the U.S. could be met with a conventional military response.”
chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Army General Martin E. Dempsey
Disregarding the ridiculous use of the word cyber, which makes him sound as if he’s stuck in a 1970s steampunk novel, the statement from such an authority makes it crystal clear that an attack that tries to subvert communications infrastructure is considered a military attack. And this is the attack we’ve had, on a global scale, against all mankind, from the NSA, the GCHQ, and the FRA.
It is important to note that cryptography itself has not been breached, as erroneously reported by several oldmedia this morning. While the end effect can be the same, there is a crucial distinction between the NSA/GCHQ/FRA subverting implementations of cryptography, versus breaking the math itself. The security services have not broken cryptography, they have been subverting commercial cryptography products to be defective, using moles and other forms of pressure on technology companies to work with the NSA/GCHQ/FRA against their own customers and against mankind.
This difference is crucial as non-commercial cryptography products can be not defective. For example, look at this post from Theodore Ts’o this morning:
“I am so glad I resisted pressure from Intel engineers to let /dev/random rely only on the RDRAND instruction. [...] Relying solely on the hardware random number generator which is using an implementation sealed inside a chip which is impossible to audit is a BAD idea.” — Theodore Ts’o
This example is significant because all cryptography depends on good random number generators, and “/dev/random” is the random number generator for all GNU/Linux systems, probably including your Android phone – the technical term /dev/random can be read as “the random generator device”. It would appear that somebody sought to subvert all systems based on the Linux kernel to be vulnerable to the NSA/GCHQ/FRA. Fortunately, that failed due to the good judgment of one engineer here.
This subversion of our critical infrastructure doesn’t just let the NSA and its ilk listen in. It lets anybody listen in that has enough technical skill to discover the planted back doors – and there are plenty of people who have that skill. The security services, with the job of keeping us safe, have effectively trashed our security completely. Assume the worst criminals can eavesdrop with much more ease than the NSA were ever able to, thanks to this subversion and breach of trust.
We can safely assume that all American software is thoroughly Swiss-cheese compromised. If you’re running anything from Microsoft or Apple, you’re owned. They’re in your system, in your documents, and in your production. You were played for a fool and you need to switch to a free-software solution or stay owned.
However, cryptography itself has not been broken, as already stated. Oldmedia can’t tell this crucial difference, so I’ll leave it to the words of Edward Snowden, who can presumably be trusted on the matter:
“Encryption works. Properly implemented strong crypto systems are one of the few things that you can rely on. Unfortunately, endpoint security is so terrifically weak that NSA can frequently find ways around it.” – Edward Snowden
Note how Snowden also makes the crucial distinction between cryptography itself, properly implemented cryptography, and the subverted commercial systems, “endpoint security”.
Bruce Schneier, one of the world’s leading security experts (if not the leading security expert), makes a similar observation:
“Whatever the NSA has up its top-secret sleeves, the mathematics of cryptography will still be the most secure part of any encryption system. I worry a lot more about poorly designed cryptographic products, software bugs, bad passwords, companies that collaborate with the NSA to leak all or part of the keys, and insecure computers and networks. Those are where the real vulnerabilities are” – Bruce Schneier
In a column in The Guardian, Schneier also ominously elaborates on why these services are the enemy of all mankind, and why this is the last opportunity to learn from history:
“Has any country that engaged in mass surveillance of its own citizens voluntarily given up that capability? Has any mass surveillance country avoided becoming totalitarian?” – Bruce Schneier
The declaration of war has already been made, the glove thrown, the first strike executed. It is up to us to not repeat the mistake of the families in Berlin in the winter of 1932, who still went weekend skating in the parks in denial.
I’m writing the NSA, the GCHQ, and the FRA in this article. That is since yesterday’s revelation in the Europarl hearing that the Swedish FRA is a key player in the ongoing NSA surveillance, having the code name Sardine. When the EU gathered to discuss and protest against the NSA’s global spy network, you may recall that the UK and Sweden vetoed that discussion. Seeing how the UK and Sweden are part of the spy network, that comes as no surprise today, but is still incredibly shameful to the brink of treason. There is no further reason anybody in the EU could trust the ministers of those countries ever again on the matter.
Finally, the NSA, GCHQ, and the FRA are faceless legal constructs. But the people who have executed these attacks on humankind are just that, individual people. They are the people who work for these agencies. They are the ones who have declared war on humankind, individually, and they are the ones who must be made to answer for it.
They have a choice. They can come clean, as Snowden did, or they can remain an individual who declared war on humanity.
UPDATE — Techdirt makes the same observation: NSA, GCHQ admit that the public is the enemy.

NSA, GCHQ Admit That The Public Is The Enemy

hey America !    when did we become the enemy ?    ~"they" extort OUR $$$$$$$$$$  from U.S.   &  Live like kings & fucking queens   OFF of We The People    ...these fucks have done NOTHING ....but  spew  shit down ALL over this Great Land .     walking / talking ...ass pipes !!!                & we r the enemy  ....just keep voting this shit into office ,folks  yep !

NSA, GCHQ Admit That The Public Is The Enemy

from the civil-war dept

Yet another point on the latest NSA/GCHQ revelations concerning backdoors into all sorts of commercial encryption tools, buried within the stories is the pretty clear admission that the NSA and GCHQ views the public as the enemy. First, as Marcy Wheeler points out, all of the programs are named after civil war battles in which the same country's own citizens were seen as the enemy:
The full extent of the N.S.A.’s decoding capabilities is known only to a limited group of top analysts from the so-called Five Eyes: the N.S.A. and its counterparts in Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Only they are cleared for the Bullrun program, the successor to one called Manassas — both names of American Civil War battles. A parallel GCHQ counterencryption program is called Edgehill, named for the first battle of the English Civil War of the 17th century.

Unlike some classified information that can be parceled out on a strict “need to know” basis, one document makes clear that with Bullrun, “there will be NO ‘need to know.’ ”
But it actually goes even further than that. As the Guardian report notes, in one of the documents, the public is flat out named as the "adversary."
Among other things, the program is designed to "insert vulnerabilities into commercial encryption systems". These would be known to the NSA, but to no one else, including ordinary customers, who are tellingly referred to in the document as "adversaries".
Kind of says it all, doesn't it? For all the bullshit coming out of the administration and the defenders of this program that they're about protecting the safety of Americans, that's clearly not the overall intent. It's to compromise the privacy of everyone.

Why Hayao Miyazaki never signs autographs in Japan

Hayao Mizayaki
When approached by fans, Hayao Miyazaki, acclaimed director of award winning movies such as Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, always refuses to sign autographs. It wasn’t always like that, but one specific event made him shy away from putting pen to paper for his admirers. A separate, unrelated event convinced him to make a rare exception to his “no autograph” rule.

Hayao Miyazaki was shocked when he found out that his signature was being sold for unbelievably high prices ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 yen (US$3,055 to $5,092). The famous director was saddened to know that the autograph he signed for what he thought was a loving fan was being sold as a commodity for a profit. Disconcerted by what he called “business prices” for his signature, Miyazaki vowed to never sign autographs again.
However, he did make one exception to his rule. Following the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, Miyazaki took a trip up north to visit the children in disaster-stricken areas. He held an event where he autographed anything the children asked him to sign. In Miyazaki’s eyes, even if they sold his signature for a profit, that little bit of money would be going to people who truly needed it.
So if you’re ever in Japan and find yourself staring face-to-face with the man himself, don’t feel bad when he declines your request for an autograph. Just know that behind that refusal is a really good reason from an extraordinary man.

Joe Biden Vows To Target Pro-Gun Lawmakers

arming Al Qaeda  & dis~arming American Citizens  & you Mr. ,Mrs. America ..voted this shit into office !

Joe Biden Vows To Target Pro-Gun Lawmakers

Vice President Joe Biden is going even further to try and target legal gun owners.
Last week while speaking about federal gun control laws, Biden said, “If Congress doesn’t act, we’ll fight for a new Congress. It’s that simple. But we’re going to get this done.”
He made this blunt statement as he swore in B. Todd Jones. Jones is now director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Ever since Biden’s gun control agenda failed to pass through the Senate in April, he has been getting desperate. On top of his “priority list” was universal background checks for all firearm purchases.
As reported by Guns Save Lives:
Biden’s announcement came just before the president signed two executive orders last week. One banning the re-importation of military guns (essentially banning the import of the M1 Garands in Korea) and also proposed stricter requirements for NFA items purchased through trusts.
B. Todd Jones will become the ATF’s first confirmed director in almost 7 years.
Biden claims that with a confirmed ATF director, gun control will now be able to pass. He said, “They’ve been, in my view, over the last period of time been marginalized, or attempted to be marginalized by the process, but no longer.”
When will Washington bureaucrats stop stomping on our Second Amendment rights? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Kim Dotcom Teases New Music Service… BABOOM

Earlier this week Kim Dotcom resigned as Mega director to focus on other projects, including his upcoming music service. TorrentFreak can now confirm that the new service will be called Baboom. While the official release is still a few months away Dotcom was kind enough to share an early teaser with us. “Artists never had more freedom, transparency and control,” he says.
December 2011, a month before the criminal proceeding against Megaupload became public, Kim Dotcom first revealed his plans to launch a new service to transform the music business.
At the time the project was called Megabox and the similarly named .com domain was seized by the U.S. Government. However, despite all the legal troubles, Dotcom continued development on the music platform.
It’s currently being prepared for a public launch, albeit under a different brand. Dotcom had decided initially decided to keep the new name a secret for a while, but after he resigned from Mega earlier this week there were several signs suggesting that it could be “Baboom.”
TorrentFreak presented the Internet entrepeneur with these findings, and Dotcom confirmed that the new service will indeed launch at Baboom.com.
Dotcom has already secured several millions in funding for the project and there are currently 22 developers working on it. Unlike Mega, Baboom will be operated by a company owned by the Internet entrepreneur himself.
With Baboom, Dotcom strongly believes that he can revolutionize the music industry and give artists full control over their music again.
“I am really excited about Baboom. I can’t wait for artists to see what i have created for them. Their entire career can be managed on Baboom. Artists never had more freedom, transparency and control,” he tells TorrentFreak.
The teaser below shows what Baboom will look like, although not all design elements are final yet. The completed project will be much more advanced than how the Megabox idea initially started, and Dotcom doesn’t plan to release it before it’s perfect.

Baboom teaser
BaboomHintHQ
Dotcom previously said that there are several “top artists” lined up for the launch, but those featured in the teaser above are just internal design placeholders, for now.
When it’s released Baboom will give the public access to free music, while compensating artists through advertising revenue. With this “free music” business model Dotcom believes he can decrease music piracy while giving artists proper compensation for their work.
In addition, Baboom is expected to have a paid version where music fans can pay for music and not be bothered by ads.
It is no secret that Dotcom has several prominent connections in the music industry and it will be interesting to see which artists join the project. In any case, there will definitely be plenty of attention for Baboom’s launch.
Whether Baboom will be able to challenge the mighty influence of the major labels will become clear in a few months’ time.

Nobel Committee Obligated to Strip Obama of Peace Prize

by
September 6th, 2013
Updated 09/06/2013
It was quite suspicious when Barack Obama was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize less than two weeks before his first inauguration in 2009. It was even more suspicious when he actually won the prize based on no merit whatsoever.
obama-peace-prize-revokedNada, nothing, zilch, zero. No accomplishment to speak of in the arena of peace-making, especially world peace-making. Only on the basis of a quixotic “Hope and Change” campaign jingle was he awarded the highest accolade for peace on the planet.

Obama Has Made Total Mockery of the Nobel Peace Prize

In light of recent outright war-mongering in Syria, as well as many other bellicose initiatives throughout the world, this president has succeeded in making a complete mockery of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Such a travesty, in fact, that the Norwegian Nobel Committee is obligated to strip him of the award post haste. That is, of course, if their illustrious award is to retain any meaning or credibility in the future.
Where are you Norwegian Nobel Committee (NNC) during this moment of dire need and urgently required intervention? Wouldn’t it be appropriate to re-visit such a disastrous decision.
You may remember that it was Obama who ordered up 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan just days after accepting the award.
  • Fast forward to September of 2013 and here Obama is again beating the war drums.
  • Britain has voted down any involvement in Syria.
  • Germany has said no to war and says it has “No Plans to Join Syria Military Action”.
  • Italy has asserted that it will take no part in any strikes against Syria.
  • The United Nations has declared Obama’s proposed military aggression to be illegal.
  • The European Union has strongly counseled for a diplomatic solution.
  • The BRICS nations urged that Obama should “lay aside the futile pursuit of a military solution”.
  • Even the Pope has weighed in as he “urges G-20 leaders to avoid military action in Syria.”

Time For Nobel Committee to Strip Obama of Peace Prize

So how is it that a Noble Peace Prize winner has to be goaded into pursing the path of peace in Syria, rather than the road to war? Something is very wrong with this picture. So wrong that the only alternative is for the NNC is take back the Nobel Peace Prize at this critical juncture.

In this way the message sent to the world will be that war will no longer be tolerated by the community of nations unless it is absolutely necessary and there are no other alternatives. And only then should such life and death decisions be taken with the unanimous consensus of the entire community of nations, less the aggressor.
President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry have made a farce of the entire UN Security Council process.  Their “our way or the highway” approach has served to profoundly undermine the only international body that has the teeth and legitimacy to address such weighty and consequential matters.
In so doing they have imperiled the entire global community and made it subject to a highly perverted and twisted form of American justice. Some remark that Pax Americana can only be delivered at the barrel of a gun just like Yankee gunboat diplomacy. There was a time when the US Department of State was much more about negotiating peace around the world than waging war.
There is perhaps no more effective way to short-circuit this unlawful and scandalous rush to war with Syria than than to strip Barack Obama of his ill-gotten peace prize.
Clearly he never earned it. He has since done nothing to instill confidence that he can act as an ombudsman for peace around the world. Likewise, his track record only indicates a future trajectory toward more military aggression.
It is the perfect time for the Norwegian Nobel Committee to act. Doing so may very well save thousands of lives, prevent millions of additional refugees from having to seek safe haven, and protect the homes and businesses of millions who have already suffered untold misery.

Obama and the Syrian spotlight
Like his Portuguese waterdog Bo with a bone, President Barack Obama refuses to drop the spotlight that the attack on Syria is naturally providing him.

With the publicity and world attention Syria affords him, Obama, the most preening of all presidents,  has never had it so good.
Facing the specter of defeat on congressional backing for his long-threatened Syria strike, Obama announced on Friday that he plans to make his case to the American people next week from one of his increasingly rare layovers in the White House.
“Obama, speaking toward the close of the G-20 summit in Russia, reiterated that the Assad regime’s alleged use of chemical weapons last week is a “threat to global peace and security” and must be met with a military response.  He said he plans to address the American people from the White House on Tuesday. (FoxNews, Sept. 6, 2013)
“I will make the best case that I can to the American people as well as to the international community to take necessary and appropriate action,” Obama said.

The international community? That’s where he just was at the G20 and where he failed spectacularly.
Tuesday just happens to be September 10, or one day before September 11, 2013,  the 12th anniversary of 9/11,  and also the first anniversary of the Benghazi terrorist attack in which four courageous Americans lost their lives with no help—or explanation why even one year on—from the Obama administration.
In refusing to step out of the Syria spotlight, Obama seeks to convince the Free World that’s he’s a tough, decisive president willing to take on all dictators, a mission destined to fail with Russian bears like Vladimir Putin in the same picture.
That Obama patently refuses to take on al-Qaeda and goes so far as to put American troops fighting side by side with them, tells the lie on the profile he so studiously tries to manufacture.
Obama’s astro-turfed profile is wholly refuted by four and a half years of pictures showing the real Marxist McCoy.
Indeed, these pictures show Obama more accurately than any of his Teleprompter-delivered rhetoric.

Take the picture of the President of America on that girly bike on which he looks right at home.  It’s the photo that got detractors suspecting that it is really Michelle who wears the pants in the family.
The photo of Obama standing with Turkey Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan shielded from the Rose Garden rain by umbrella-holding Marines is another gem that tells a tawdry tale.
The golf course ballerina-like pirouette portraying the president in August is too close for comfort in reminding some of us of his Chicago pal Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
Just yesterday came two Getty images, one depicting Obama strolling by a golden statue while wearing a Mona Lisa-like smile in Peterhof Palace Garden during the G20 gathering of world leaders.
The other shows Obama with a cup emblazoned with the presidential seal.  The caption under the photo explained “Elections have consequences: Obama’s staff at the G20 conference served him coffee in paper cups emblazoned with the presidential seal.” It is well known that all presidents travel with their own personal tasters when abroad, but do they get handed drinks by their staff in styrofoam cups emblazoned with the presidential seal?
The extravagant G20 get together in St. Petersburg, Russia, complete with actors strolling about in Marie Antoinette period dress and fireworks,  topped the lavish list how world leaders really spend their time when far away from home.
It didn’t seem to bother Obama one teensy bit to be seen living the dolce vita in the Russian Versailles, which the ghosts of Sarin-gassed Syrian children will haunt forever.
While the poor the world over go hungry, Obama is living it up like the Czars of old assassinated by Marxist hero Vladimir Lenin.
The true story of Obama is told in pictures not words.
Meanwhile if there is any real “threat to global peace and security”, it’s publicity hound Barack Hussein Obama.

Carbon Tax Appears To Backfire in a Big Way in Australia

Story by the Associated Press/Curated by Erica Ritzhttp://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/09/06/carbon-tax-appears-to-backfire-in-a-big-way-in-australia/

SYDNEY (AP) — The ruling Labor Party’s probable collapse in Australia’s next election is largely the consequence of its qualified success in the last one three years ago. To form the coalition she needed to stay in power, then-Prime Minister Julia Gillard reneged on a promise and agreed to place a carbon tax on major polluters.
On Saturday, the bill for that bargain comes due. Voters have never stopped hating the tax and its effect on their electric bills. Longtime Labor Party supporters — even people who have helped cut pollution by installing solar panels at home — have flocked to the opposition.
“Whoever gets rid of it will get my vote,” said Mark Keene, a 54-year-old maintenance worker from Sydney who, for the first time in his life, won’t be voting for Labor.
Opposition leader Tony Abbott has declared the election a “referendum on the carbon tax” — a sure sign of confidence that most voters remain staunchly against it.

Its unpopularity has already produced the downfall of Gillard, who lost her job to Kevin Rudd in a June vote of party lawmakers desperate to avoid a crushing election loss that could send them into the political wilderness for a decade. But Labor candidates for Parliament continue to trail badly in opinion polls.
The tax on big polluters such as power plants and factories has been in place since July 2012. It started at 23 Australian dollars ($21) per metric ton of carbon dioxide produced and has since risen to AU$24.15 per metric ton.
The government estimated the tax would cost the average person less than AU$10 per week, but three months after it took effect, most Australians surveyed by policy think-tank Per Capita said it was costing them more than twice that much. But they also expressed confusion, with most blaming the tax for higher gas prices even though it is not levied on motor fuel purchases. The poll was a representative online survey of 1,422 people and has a 2.6 percent margin of error.
Lynne Chester, a Sydney University energy researcher, said that in Australia’s most populous state, New South Wales, household electricity prices have risen more than 110 percent since 2007. But she said only 9 percentage points of that increase is attributable to the carbon tax; increased charges for power transmission and distribution account for the rest.
Most Australians, but not the wealthy, get government compensation for higher electricity prices.
The carbon tax is one reason Sydney resident Geoff Hamment, who normally votes for Labor, is supporting the conservatives this time around. Hamment said he’s seen his household electricity bills go “through the roof” since the tax was introduced.
“I don’t like it,” he said. “I think us paying so much is just pointless when you have countries like China churning it out.”

Hamment spent AU$8,000 to install solar panels and a gas hot-water heater, and has trained his two children to turn the lights off whenever possible. Several of his retired friends who are surviving on pensions have had it much worse, and have struggled to cope with the higher costs.
“They’re sitting at home in the cold because they’re afraid of the power bills,” he said.
Politicians in this coal-rich country of 23 million have long sought to cut carbon dioxide emissions. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, in 2010 Australia produced about 19.7 metric tons of CO2 per person, more per capita than the United States and almost any other nation.
Labor and the coalition have both promised to slash Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 to 5 percent below 2000 levels. But now both want to accomplish that with something other than a carbon tax.
Gillard is not the first politician undone by attempting to respond to the issue.
During the campaign for the 2007 election in which Rudd won his first stint as prime minister, both Labor and the coalition had proposed emission trading schemes similar to the one used in many European countries. Major polluters would buy and sell credits on the open market to get the right to produce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.
Liberal leader Malcolm Turnbull had been close to a deal with Labor on a trading scheme in 2009, when Abbott challenged him for the party leadership and won by a single vote. With Rudd’s ETS hopes in tatters and his popularity in free fall, Labor replaced him with Gillard, his deputy, in 2010.
Weeks later, Gillard went to an election promising to seek consensus on how Australia should deal with its greenhouse gas emissions. Fatefully, she also promised never to introduce a carbon tax.
She went back on her word because Labor needed support from the minor Greens party to have enough seats in Parliament to control government, and the Greens insisted on the tax.
The broken promise triggered protest rallies across the nation and mortally damaged Gillard’s government in opinion polls. And the incessant feuding between her and Rudd has fed even more disenchantment with their party.

“The Labor government is all about themselves — the individual — rather than the whole party,” said Agnes Lee, a Sydney IT consultant who plans to vote for the conservative coalition on Saturday. “They don’t have the harmony or unity to work together because they’re trying to backstab each other. I don’t want to have a government like that governing our country.”
Lee, a longtime Liberal Party supporter who has installed solar panels to reduce her power bill, said Labor’s inability to clearly explain the carbon tax was one of the party’s major failings. She agrees with the government that something needs to be done to curb carbon emissions, but she’s not sure a carbon tax is the solution.
“I don’t think at this stage anyone has a clear understanding of what the government is going to do with the carbon tax,” Lee said. “Is this really a tax, or is this really a carbon trading scheme?”
Rudd wants an emission trading scheme by 2014 — a year ahead of the current schedule. He says it would reduce the cost of emitting a metric ton of carbon dioxide from AU$25.40 to an estimated AU$6.
Abbott wants neither a carbon tax nor carbon trading, but taxpayer-funded incentives for polluters to operate cleaner. He calls it a Direct Action plan, but Labor and environmental groups have called it a “con” that cannot achieve the reduction target.
Abbott has committed to cap Direct Action spending at AU$3.2 billion, even if it fails to reach the target. He has also revealed that the opposition has no modeling to suggest that the plan could succeed.

The Grim, Relentless March to War with Syria

Polls show Americans overwhelmingly reject any form of US military intervention in Syria’s civil war, with as little as 4% support for an invasion.  Peace protests have sprung up, with further demonstrations planned this weekend ahead of a likely war vote in both houses of Congress next week.

Even active military service members have asserted a resounding rejection of this
conflict, some photographing themselves holding signs in front of their faces to avoid retaliation.  Images posted to Twitter, Facebook and the wider web state that, “I will not fight for Al Qaeda in Syria.”
Reports out of the G-20 summit in St. Petersburg show similar rejection of this proposed action.  Only France seems ready to commit to the US coalition.  Russia has stood firmly against the US demands, and the Chinese spokesman argued that the price of oil would spike in the event of a new war.  The Pope urged politicians to “lay aside the futile pursuit of a military solution.”  As details of the meetings emerged, Time assessed that, “Apart from France, no one was ready to take up arms with the U.S. in Syria.”
Despite massive public opposition to any military action against the Assad government, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved a hastily-assembled war authorization resolution on Wednesday.
“Al Qaeda?”
The Syrian opposition rebels’ long string of atrocities has not inspired confidence for their cause in the west, as genocidal massacres in rebel held areas continue to be reported.
“U.N. investigators released a particularly detailed and horrific report that slams both sides, accusing rebels fighting to oust President Bashar al-Assad of murder, rape, torture and forced disappearances.”
Ethnic cleansing and summary executions of civilians and captured soldiers have been reported since 2011.  Invading Sunni militias have repeatedly targeted government loyalists, non-Muslims and non-Sunni Muslims.  A recent report dramatizes the situation on the ground:
“We are still finding people who were killed in their homes, and bodies left in bushes,” said Sheikh Mohammed Reda Hatem, an Alawite religious leader in Latakia.  “Until now 150 Alawites from the villages have been kidnapped. There are women and children among them.”
Even the Obama Administration acknowledged that the Al Nusra Front inside Syria are terrorists and placed the group and its affiliates on the State Department’s terrorism list in December of 2012.  Yet, the administration insists on aiding these same rebel opposition forces on the grounds that they are a minority of the opposition fighters.
Secretary of State John Kerry claimed:
“Maybe 15% to 25% might be in one group or another who are what we would deem to be bad guys.”
This vague claim of Al Nusra/Al Qaeda minority status has been made without any corroborating evidence.  Yet even John Kerry concedes that up to one in four of the people who will militarily benefit from a US bombing campaign against Syria are “bad guys.”
Consider this: By America’s own laws, providing any aid at all to a designated terrorist organization would be considered “material support for terrorism.”  Nevertheless, the U.S. and its allies in the region have directly supported these designated Al Nusra terrorist organizations and currently seek to increase this aid by orders of magnitude.
Grayson v. Hagel
As the debate over Syria moved into the Congress, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel made his case for attacking Syria.  When confronted by Representative Alan Grayson (D, FL-9th), Hagel responded with some of the most intriguing testimony to date.
GRAYSON: Secretary Hagel, there’s been a report in the media that the administration has mischaracterized post-attack Syrian military communications, and that these communications actually express surprise about the attack.  This is a very serious charge.  Can you please release the original transcripts so that the American people can make their own judgment about that important issue?
HAGEL: What um, transcripts are you referring to?
Hagel expresses complete ignorance of the alleged evidence against the Syrian government that his direct boss, President Obama, has told the world is central to their case for war:
“Our intelligence shows the Assad regime and its forces preparing to use chemical weapons, launching rockets in the highly populated suburbs of Damascus, and acknowledging that a chemical weapons attack took place.”
-Barack Obama, August 31, 2013
Representative Grayson repeated the request to Hagel.
GRAYSON: The transcripts that were reported that took place after the attack in which the government has suggested that they confirm the existence of an attack, but actually it’s been reported that Syrian commanders expressed surprise about the attack having taken place, not confirmed it.
HAGEL: Well, that’s probably classified.  Uh congressman, I’d have to go back and review exactly what you’re referring to.
GRAYSON: Well, you will agree that it’s important that the administration not mislead the public in any way about these reports, won’t you?
Hagel finished up the round by stating, “I have no idea what exactly you’re talking about…”  Taking the United States Secretary of Defense at face value, if he sincerely has no idea about any details of the actual alleged evidence against the Syrian state, a UN signatory, one might ask why he’s found it a matter of national urgency to launch a military attack on that nation, in clear violation of international law.
International Law: Putin v. Obama
As agreed to by all parties concerned, in the United Nations Charter, the Russian President Putin had this to say:
“…(A)nything that is outside the U.N. Security Council is aggression, except self-defense. Now what Congress and the U.S. Senate are doing in essence is legitimizing aggression. This is inadmissible in principle.”
Beyond the legal realm, Putin escalated his rhetoric and verbal attack on the US administration.
“They lie beautifully, of course. I saw debates in Congress. A congressman asks Mr Kerry: ‘Is al Qaeda there?’ He says: ‘No, I am telling you responsibly that it is not’ … Al Qaeda units are the main military echelon, and they know this … But he is lying and knows he is lying.  It’s sad.”
Tensions between the nuclear-armed powers are currently at dangerous levels.  The US delegate to the UN, Samantha Power, fired back at the Russians, claiming:
“In the wake of the flagrant shattering of the international norm against chemical weapons use, Russia continues to hold the council hostage and shirk its international responsibilities…”
Power signaled that the UN Security Council would no longer be relevant to US decisions on Syria.  This breakdown in the established international order may have numerous ramifications and unintended consequences as this crisis unfolds.
The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, responded to the impending US military action:
“The use of force is lawful only when in exercise of self-defense in accordance with article 51 of the United Nations Charter and or when the Security Council approves such action.”
Both the U.S. and Russia continue to relocate warships into the waters around Syria, with recent reports of four additional Russian vessels including an intelligence platform and landing craft.  Russia’s Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov described the move as a stabilizing action:
“Our navy vessels are a guarantee of stability, guarantee of peace, an attempt to hold back other forces ready to start military action in the region.”
The US placed at least five destroyers, equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles and helicopters as well as a landing vessel manned by US Marines into the eastern Mediterranean.  US diplomats have now been recalled from Lebanon.
Other regional powers have taken steps in preparation for a wider war in Syria.  Israel called up its army reserves and began distributing gas masks to the public.  Iran has reportedly ordered some militants in Iraq to retaliate in the event of a US assault on neighboring Syria.  Unnamed US sources have claimed that this Iranian edict would prompt military actions against the, “U.S. Embassy and other American interests in Baghdad.”

No, seriously, let there be no doubt:
Iran is enduring economic sanctions designed to slow the country’s nuclear weapons program, but
BuffoonsThatLeadUsPresident Obama’s team thought the regime might abandon dictator Bashar Assad over his use of chemical weapons in Syria’s civil war.

Samantha Power, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, hoped that a team of UN investigators — many of whom, presumably, have a longstanding relationship with Iranian leaders — could write a report that would convince Iran to abandon its ally at the behest of the United States.
“We worked with the UN to create a group of inspectors and then worked for more than six months to get them access to the country on the logic that perhaps the presence of an investigative team in the country might deter future attacks,” Power said at the Center for American Progress as she made the case for intervening in Syria.
“Or, if not, at a minimum, we thought perhaps a shared evidentiary base could convince Russia or Iran — itself a victim of Saddam Hussein’s monstrous chemical weapons attacks in 1987-1988 — to cast loose a regime that was gassing it’s people,” she said.
We need to cast loose from the buffoons that lead us.
Really, we do.  Sooner rather than later.

U.S. NAVY Destroyers, Air Force B-2 and B-52 Bombers All-Set

Ladies and Gentlemen, we are on the brink of nuclear war. Will WWIII commence?

WASHINGTON — Key reports reflect that the Obama Administration is determined to strike within Syria and likely by Tuesday, when the President is set to address the Nation.
According to circling information at least four U.S. Navy Destroyers are waiting to unleash a hellacious blitzing melee of Tomahawk Cruise Missiles while long-range B2 and B-52 Bombers implore selective carpet-bombing likely reducing Syria to a pile of rubble. The reports claim that Obama plans to wage a much larger strike than initially thought.
The coming attack is projected by some to cause more damage to the Syrian President’s resources and defenses then all attacks Syria has suffered in the past few years.
According to PressTV.ir, “The B-2 and B-52 bombers are equipped with joint air-to-surface missiles, designed to destroy both mobile and fixed targets. The missiles’ primary advantage is that they allow pilots to operate outside the lethal range of most hostile air defense systems. “[1]
Even scarier yet,  is the fact that Infowars.com broke a story Tuesday, exposing the fact that nuclear warheads have indeed been transferred to the East Coast, possibly “South Carolina”, off a West Texas base in preparation for some type of impending attack. Alex Jones and Anthony Gucciardi wrote, “According to the high level military source, who has a strong record of continually being proven correct in deep military activity, the Dyess Air Force Commander authorized unknown parties to transfer the nuclear warheads to an unknown location that has been reported to be South Carolina, where the warheads will then be picked up and potentially utilized.
This is of particular interest not only due to the fact that the Syrian situation has escalated to the point of a very realistic hot war scenario, but due to the fact that Dyess has repeatedly denied the existence of nuclear warheads inside the base.”[2]
Does the U.S. truly expect to unleash nuclear weaponry on the Syrian people?

High-Level U.S. Intelligence Officers: Syrian Government Didn’t Launch Chemical Weapons

cia
Numerous Intelligence Officials Question Administration’s Claims
Without doubt, intelligence is being manipulated to justify war against Syria.  Here, here, here, here and here.
Without doubt, the Syrian rebels had access to chemical weapons … and have apparently used them in the recent past.
Associated Press reported last week:
An intercept of Syrian military officials discussing the strike was among low-level staff, with no direct evidence tying the attack back to an Assad insider or even a senior Syrian commander, the officials said.
So while Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday that links between the attack and the Assad government are “undeniable,” U.S. intelligence officials are not so certain that the suspected chemical attack was carried out on Assad’s orders, or even completely sure it was carried out by government forces, the officials said.
***
Another possibility that officials would hope to rule out: that stocks had fallen out of the government’s control and were deployed by rebels in a callous and calculated attempt to draw the West into the war.
Reuters notes today:
With the United States threatening to attack Syria, U.S. and allied intelligence services are still trying to work out who ordered the poison gas attack on rebel-held neighborhoods near Damascus.
No direct link to President Bashar al-Assad or his inner circle has been publicly demonstrated, and some U.S. sources say intelligence experts are not sure whether the Syrian leader knew of the attack before it was launched or was only informed about it afterward.
Indeed, numerous intelligence officers say that the rebels likely carried out the August 21st attack.
For example, the Daily Caller reports:
The Obama administration has selectively used intelligence to justify military strikes on Syria, former military officers with access to the original intelligence reports say, in a manner that goes far beyond what critics charged the Bush administration of doing in the run-up to the 2003 Iraq war.
According to these officers, who served in top positions in the United States, Britain, France, Israel, and Jordan, a Syrian military communication intercepted by Israel’s famed Unit 8200 electronic intelligence outfit has been doctored so that it leads a reader to just the opposite conclusion reached by the original report.
***
The doctored report was picked up on Israel’s Channel 2 TV  on Aug. 24, then by Focus magazine in Germany, the Times of Israel, and eventually by The Cable  in Washington, DC.
According to the doctored report, the chemical attack was carried out by the 155th Brigade of the 4th Armored Division of the Syrian Army, an elite unit commanded by Maher al-Assad, the president’s brother.
However, the original communication intercepted by Unit 8200 between a major in command of the rocket troops assigned to the 155th Brigade of the 4th Armored Division, and the general staff, shows just the opposite.
The general staff officer asked the major if he was responsible for the chemical weapons attack. From the tone of the conversation, it was clear that “the Syrian general staff were out of their minds with panic that an unauthorized strike had been launched by the 155th Brigade in express defiance of their instructions,” the former officers say.
According to the transcript of the original Unit 8200 report, the major “hotly denied firing any of his missiles” and invited the general staff to come and verify that all his weapons were present.
The report contains a note at the end that the major was interrogated by Syrian intelligence for three days, then returned to command of his unit. “All of his weapons were accounted for,” the report stated.
***
An Egyptian intelligence report describes a meeting in Turkey between military intelligence officials from Turkey and Qatar and Syrian rebels. One of the participants states, “there will be a game changing event on August 21st” that will “bring the U.S. into a bombing campaign” against the Syrian regime.
The chemical weapons strike on Moudhamiya, an area under rebel control, took place on August 21. “Egyptian military intelligence insists it was a combined Turkish/Qatar/rebel  false flag operation,” said a source familiar with the report.
[A "false flag" is a ploy for starting war which has been used by governments around the world for thousands of years.]
Agents provacateurs are as old as warfare itself. What better than a false flag attack, staged by al Qaeda and its al Nusra front allies in Syria, to drag the United States into a war?
And 12 very high-level former intelligence officials wrote the following memorandum to Obama today:
We regret to inform you that some of our former co-workers are telling us, categorically, that contrary to the claims of your administration, the most reliable intelligence shows that Bashar al-Assad was NOT responsible for the chemical incident that killed and injured Syrian civilians on August 21, and that British intelligence officials also know this. In writing this brief report, we choose to assume that you have not been fully informed because your advisers decided to afford you the opportunity for what is commonly known as “plausible denial.”
***
There is a growing body of evidence from numerous sources in the Middle East — mostly affiliated with the Syrian opposition and its supporters — providing a strong circumstantial case that the August 21 chemical incident was a pre-planned provocation by the Syrian opposition and its Saudi and Turkish supporters. The aim is reported to have been to create the kind of incident that would bring the United States into the war.
According to some reports, canisters containing chemical agent were brought into a suburb of Damascus, where they were then opened. Some people in the immediate vicinity died; others were injured.
We are unaware of any reliable evidence that a Syrian military rocket capable of carrying a chemical agent was fired into the area. In fact, we are aware of no reliable physical evidence to support the claim that this was a result of a strike by a Syrian military unit with expertise in chemical weapons.
In addition, we have learned that on August 13-14, 2013, Western-sponsored opposition forces in Turkey started advance preparations for a major, irregular military surge. Initial meetings between senior opposition military commanders and Qatari, Turkish and U.S. intelligence officials took place at the converted Turkish military garrison in Antakya, Hatay Province, now used as the command center and headquarters of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and their foreign sponsors.
Senior opposition commanders who came from Istanbul pre-briefed the regional commanders on an imminent escalation in the fighting due to “a war-changing development,” which, in turn, would lead to a U.S.-led bombing of Syria.
At operations coordinating meetings at Antakya, attended by senior Turkish, Qatari and U.S. intelligence officials as well as senior commanders of the Syrian opposition, the Syrians were told that the bombing would start in a few days. Opposition leaders were ordered to prepare their forces quickly to exploit the U.S. bombing, march into Damascus, and remove the Bashar al-Assad government
The Qatari and Turkish intelligence officials assured the Syrian regional commanders that they would be provided with plenty of weapons for the coming offensive. And they were. A weapons distribution operation unprecedented in scope began in all opposition camps on August 21-23. The weapons were distributed from storehouses controlled by Qatari and Turkish intelligence under the tight supervision of U.S. intelligence officers.

Russia warns of nuclear disaster if Syria is hit

truther September 7, 2013
A military strike on Syria could lead to a nuclear catastrophe if a missile were to hit a reactor containing radioactive uranium, a Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman warned. The remark comes as the US continues to push for a military strike on Syria.
“If a warhead, by design or by chance, were to hit the Miniature Neutron Source Reactor (MNSR) near Damascus, the consequences could be catastrophic,” Aleksandr Lukashevich said in a Wednesday statement.
Russia warns of nuclear disaster if Syria is hit
Russia’s Foreign Ministry urged the UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to complete a risk evaluation as the US continues to seek support for military action. It asked the agency to “react swiftly” and carry out “an analysis of the risks linked to possible American strikes on the MNSR and other facilities in Syria.”
Lukashevich stated that the region could be at risk of “contamination by highly enriched uranium and it would no longer be possible to account for nuclear material, its safety and control.” He added that such material could fall into the wrong hands.
The IAEA said that it is aware of the statement, but it is waiting for a formal request asking the agency to complete a risk evaluation. “We will consider the questions raised if we receive such a request,” Reuters quoted an IAEA spokesperson as saying.
The agency said in a report to member states last week that Syria had declared there was a “small amount of nuclear material” at the MNSR, a type of research reactor usually fuelled by highly enriched uranium.
Although this type of a reactor would not contain a lot of nuclear material, it would be enough to cause “a serious local radiation hazard” if the reactor was hit, nuclear expert Mark Hibbs from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace told Reuters.
The United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted on Wednesday to approve President Obama’s plan to strike Syria in retaliation against the alleged use of chemical weapons by President Bashar Assad’s regime.
Should Congress move to approve the president’s request, the US could soon initiate a limited strike on Syria.
On the other hand, Moscow needs convincing proof – not rumors – from UN experts that chemical weapons were used in Syria, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an interview with AP and Channel 1 on Tuesday.
“We believe that at the very least we should wait for the results of the UN inspection commission in Syria,” Putin said. He added that so far there is no information regarding exactly which chemical agent was used in the attack in the Damascus suburb, or who was behind it.

RAYTHEON, DARPA, AND EGYPTIAN TUNNELS

September 7, 2013 By

This article was shared with me in an email by a regular reader here and a frequent contributor of articles in emails, Ms. P.H., and it’s so intriguing I simply have to share it and comment a bit about it in my usual high-octane-speculation sort of way.
The gist of the article, as will be apparent from the title, is that Raytheon, a major American defense contractor, and most probably a favorite corporate son of the Diabolically Apocalyptic Research Projects Agency (DARPA), will be contracted to look for tunnels…
… in Egypt!:
Raytheon to Detect Tunnels in Egypt
Now, here’s the ostensible story, direct from the article itself:
“Aerospace and defense major Raytheon Company ( RTN ) has been awarded a $9.9 million contract by Pentagon to continue with research and development work on Border Tunnel Activity Detection Systems in Egypt.  The contract is provided under an Egyptian Foreign Military Sales Letter of Agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
“On detection, the Egyptian authorities will plug these tunnels which were abused by terrorists to smuggle arms across the border into Gaza for use against Israel. According to rough estimates, nearly 2,000 tunnels still exist in the Egypt and Gaza border.”
But it strikes me that a “tunneling activity detection technology” might be something rather different than what we’re being told, and that its ultimate purpose might be something else other than detecting those pesky Radical Tunneling Islamicist Terrorists out to do nasty things to the Zionist Paradise of Yahwist Restraint and Compassion. After all, basic tunneling detection technology of one sort of another has been around for quite awhile; it’s called radar tomography.
It suspect that what they’re after here is the ability to detect and map small tunnels at multiple levels from space.
And I suspect that the real goal is not protecting the Zionist Paradise of Yahwist Restraint and Compassion from Radical Tunneling Islamicist Terrorists, but rather, that the real goal is the detection of this:
Such an advanced, deep penetrating, multi-level and detailed ability to map small tunnels and such from space would be a boon to the illegal antiquities looting industry, not to mention to the underground and covert search for ancient knowledge and technology.  Let’s recall that shortly before the Giza compound was walled off, that network television series ran a number of interesting shows about radar tomography of the complex, especially in the area around the Sphinx, and, in accordance with various theories that have long held that there were chambers and “halls of records” beneath the ancient pre-Egyptian monument (yes, you read that correctly, and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, googling the names John Anthony West and Dr Robert Schoch will help bring you up to speed), sure enough, the tomography indicated that there were areas highly suggestive of chambers.
Then we had the Egyptian government wall off the compound, ostensibly to protect it from terrorists and vandals.
Then there were various “antiquities looting” scandals surrounding the then director of Egyptian antiquities, Dr Zahi Hawass.
Then there was the “Arab Spring”… no more Qaddafi, no more Mubarek, and best of all(for this point of view), no more easy public access either to Egypt or its antiquities.
And, as a regular reader here consistently reminds me, Raytheon’s name is…well, it’s a curious name for a defense contractor: “Ray” is clear enough. Rays. Beams. Lightning bolts.
“Theon,” from the Greek word for God. Hence, Ray+theon= Ray/Beam/Lightning Bolt of God (or if you prefer, the gods). The divine ray. The divine light.
So I suspect, in my usual high octane speculative sort of way, that the selection of God-Ray to develop technologies to look for tunnels is a scenario that tells us quite a lot. The technology to look for those pesky tunneling terrorists already exists in a certain sense. What the whole scenario suggests is that they want to develop and improve that technology to unprecedented levels, and I suspect it’s not merely to detect tunneling terrorists, or, for that matter, tunneling Mexican drug lords.
I suspect the real name of the game is antiquities.
